Inadequate and out-of-date 1 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

PeopleSoft has changed dramatically since this book was written. Even if the book were up-to-date, it is so lacking in detail that it would provide little benefit.

General ERP Implementation Guide 3 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This is more of a general ERP installation guide than it is a a book about PeopleSoft financials specifically, which is actually a good thing since the PeopleSoft information is now dated. This book was written with PeopleSoft versions 7.0/7.5 in mind; the new PeopleSoft version 8.0 is a very different product. Still, the general ERP information is still valid and accurate.

This book should not be sold 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This was a marginal effort when it was released back in 1997. It sold only because it was one of the few PeopleSoft books on the market. Now that it's old, it is simply sad that any retailers are still selling this, or moreover that the publisher (Manning) is still pushing it.

Calling this book merely bad would be generous.

This is the best book I have ever read. You must read this. 5 out of 5 stars.

This is such a good book that I am willing to run to the authors house and congratulate, and thank him for such an excellent book. For those of you who did not give this book a very good review you people suck. As for the man that said that he was a Peoplesoft Consultant, and he did not enjoy the book. You are the most horrible and evil man in the history of the world. If you were an actuall peoplesoft consultant, why would you want to read the book anyways Mr. Pissypants. This was the best 47 dollars I have ever spent. As for all of the other people who gave this book a bad review, maybe if you could actually read you could apprectiate such a good book, but appereantly not.

All the details needed for expertise 5 out of 5 stars.
67 of 71 people found this review helpful.

As an accountant, I've looked at all the books I could recommend to clients, because it's better for me when users understand what they are doing, and how to do it right. I found the other books much more shallow, and therefore less useful. This is the only book that has the depth and details that can turn anyone into a competent Quickbooks user. The information about what to do, when to do it, how to do it, and when to do something different is amazingly complete. The writing is easy to follow, and all explanations are wonderfully clear. The other books I examined tell users to make selections, without explaining what they're doing, and without explaining the other choices they have. That's how users make bad choices. This book not only teaches you how to become expert in Quickbooks, you also learn a lot of bookkeeping and accounting.

100% useless 1 out of 5 stars.
53 of 56 people found this review helpful.

Believing the hype about Hedtke and his books I bought two (This one and Peachtree Complete Business toolkits). Both turned out to be useless. This one is a simple rehash of the Peachtree manuals but even less clear and with no new material to add what so ever. You can learn more from just experimenting with Peachtree and buying a good accounting manual (if you are not an accountant as I am). The later of which there are, I am glad to say, plenty of.

If you want to buy this book thinking it will help you get to grips with peachtree then don't. As I said the manuals and online help that come with the software are much better. Maybe as a cure against insomnia...

A waste of dough. 2 out of 5 stars.

I have already read the reviews on this page before I bought the book but I don't have that band wagon mentality so I found it myself. Yes, I have read through the book but finally stopped 1/3 of the way...I got lost. It's not really a step by step instructional book so I have to figure out what the author means and I have grown tired of it. I have a strong accounting background and I'm doing well with manual bookkeeping all I need is to computerized my books. This book is not helping. Right now I'm planning to buy those books for dummies or go to the Peachtree website and check their self study guides...I don't know...but FORGET ABOUT THIS ONE!

Editorial Review:

Peachtree's user base remains steady and the product continues to be popular among small businss owners looking for accounting software to help them run and track their businesses--from accounting fundamentals to payroll to accounts receivable and inventory, job costing and generating reports.

New Direction in Managerial Accounting textbooks 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Cunningham et al have added extensive coverage for the role accountants need to play in start-up companies. This is something quite new and exciting to find presented in a managerial accounting textbook. The older textbooks like Horngren were all focused on how you eliminate inefficiences found in the manufacturing process. So what do you do when much of that manufacturing is either contracted out or has moved to China?

Outside of Silicon Valley the most needed skill for accountants in new technology companies is in performing their role during the start-up period. The successful completion of this phase is assumed in the older textbooks and dealt with from chapter 10 onwards here. Horngren and others did not really prepare their students for this situation. Cunningham et al have stepped in and dealt with this emerging need in accounting education.

The authors should include more material on the nature of the accountants role in technology start-ups. Outside of Silicon Valley the accounting students are relying on people such as the authors to tell them what they might pick up from their working environment if they were working in the Valley. This certainly seems to be the case here in Israel. We have the high-tech companies, but accountants have yet to make the transition to this new way of thinking presented in this textbook.

Editorial Review:

This text, written by an experienced author team, is designed to help students understand how to use both managerial and financial accounting information to make decisions. Class-tested for three years across the United States, its student-friendly approach has already earned it rave reviews. The text provides an introduction to business in Chapter 1 and is the only introductory accounting book to have an entire chapter (Chapter 2) devoted to creative and critical thinking. A non-technical approach makes learning accounting accessible for majors and non-majors, focuses students on using accounting information for decision making, and conforms with AECC guidelines for teaching accounting. A full-chapter length appendix on the accounting cycle (debits/credits) allows instructors to implement this portion of the course anywhere they desire.

A great guide for online investing 5 out of 5 stars.
15 of 15 people found this review helpful.

As I surf the Web, I often feel that it's like visiting a library where all the books have been spilled on the floor. The information is there but I don't know where to begin my search. "Investing Online For Dummies" explained how to get started, steered me to free or low cost online services, pointed out the important parts of Web sites, and showed me the process of online investing.

You don't have to buy this. 1 out of 5 stars.
14 of 16 people found this review helpful.

I came here to write a review for this book, and found that a reviewer below, "A reader", had already written what I was going to write. This book provides a reader with no information, but with long lists of websites to look at. You can access those websites most often just wasting time (like "A reader" already said). Using search engines like Google/Yahoo is much better than thumbing through this book.

Editorial Review:

Investing Online for Dummies is an invaluable resource for those who want to take advantage of the timely nature of the Internet for online investing. Author Kathleen Sindell covers all the bases for the online investor including setting up stock screens, selecting mutual funds, fishing for IPOs, and online banking and trading. This book is loaded with links to investment resources on the Internet and also includes a CD-ROM with demos of various investment tools and popular shareware programs. Highly recommended for online investors.
