Structured finance and securitization deals are becoming more commonplace on Wall Street. Up until now, however, market participants have had to create their own models to analyze these deals, and new entrants have had to learn as they go. Modeling Structured Finance Cash Flows with Microsoft Excel provides readers with the information they need to build a cash flow model for structured finance and securitization deals. Financial professional Keith Allman explains individual functions and formulas, while also explaining the theory behind the spreadsheets. I am an intermediate to advanced Excel user, so my review may reflect that level. As others have said, it looks like MS rushed this book to the market, evidenced by so many errata, which can be disappointing especially when the solution is wrong. On the other hand, there are some very interesting and genuine uses of various Excel functions to solve business problems.
I wouldn't recommend this book for beginners. If you're trying to learn Excel, this is not the book. It is not a book to teach excel, but a book to teach you what you can do with Excel to solve everyday problems, given you're familiar with the mechanics of excel.
I would recommend it with these caveats. And getting Walkenbach's book on Excel functions along with this would be very helpful in my opinion. Best of luck in your endeavors.

Excellent Way for the First Time User to Get Started 5 out of 5 stars.

I got audited once by the IRS. When I went in I took four or five inches of paper, most of it generated on the computer by Quicken. Any question I was asked I simply pulled out the appropriate printout to show how I had gotten to the number I had put on the form. I can't say how much having all this documentation saved, but I suspect it was substantial.

Quicken is probably the most popular generalized accounting packaged in use by individuals and small businesses. Over the years it has gotten better and better. So have the books that describe Quicken. This book describes the new Quicken 2007. The author uses the Premier version, but most of what he discusses is applicable to any version, (Premier has more stuff on handling investments). In keeping with the Dummies Books Philosophy, it is written in a light and amusing manner while providing the information needed to get the most out of the software package.

Also, as a 'Dummies' book, this book really isn't intended for dummies, but for people with little or no experience with Quicken. As such, some of the fancier features are not treated with the depth you might want if you're already a Quicken user.

But if you're just getting started with Quicken you'd have to look a long ways to find a better place to start.

This book is a great resource for learning about the special features in each of the various QuickBooks Premier Editions. It has a chapters on features in Premier only and a separate chapter for each Premier edition: Accountant, Contractor, Manufacturing and Wholesale, Non Profit, Professional Services, and Retail. There is also a chapter on Tips & Tricks for Accountants. This book assumes the reader is already familiar with the basics of QuickBooks.

This book was a great way to learn QuickBooks Pro 2008! It was easy to follow and actually had real life applications! Also, it came with the trial software-how perfect! The text also comes with a data CD, an online learning center, and the link to the author's blog. Really the perfect tool for trying to master QuickBooks!

This book is very disorganized. One chapter is flowcharts, next is viruses, next is flowcharts, lets talk about sarbanes oaxley and than flow charts again, now maybe some discussion about SAP and reducing clerical costs then some ERP architecture.


Where they just throwing darts at a piece of paper with topics?

Also, no attempt at a solutions manual to the poorly worded questions. Poorly worded questions which also content wise where pretty stupid, (ie bob notices 50$ missing from his petty cash fund every week, he leaves the counter and he has many people manning the store including janitors. What are preventive controls he can implement)

I read the one review on this book and I don't agree. I think if you don't know anything about accounting information systems this book might appear to be scattered. However, if you have some exposure to AIS(Accounting Information Systems) you'll immediately recognize the flow of topics is typical of the subject. The author is very thorough and organized in his coverage and gives required insight. A book about AIS is not going to read like an accounting textbook, nor are the topics going to be mastered in the same way. I really liked the book. I originally read the library's copy, but I bought my own because it was so good and I wanted a copy.
