Boring book, you will always look to see how many pages are left before you complete the chapter. If you ask me with 100% hands down certainty the guys who wrote this book haven't been laid in over 6 yrs

Boring and the captain obvious of textbooks 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

There are so many more physically painful things I'd rather do than read this book. AIS is naturally boring...that's a given, but it takes it to a whole new level of boring. It could give you the no-nonsense technical and professional information, but it goes on and on where no comment is necessary. Sometimes saying things that a first grader would know. Don't buy this book if you can avoid it, and if you're a professor...please don't subject your students to this.

Editorial Review:

The book reflects how information technology (IT) is altering the very nature of accounting, discussing how developments such as the Internet, electronic commerce, EDI, databases, and artificial intelligence are fundamentally transforming the way organizations conduct their business activities. Streamlined presentation condenses coverage into nineteen clear, tightly-focused chapters. Increased coverage of business strategy introduces basic strategies and strategic positions in Chapter 1. Enhanced coverage of e-commerce explores FEDI and control issues as well as IT support of e-commerce. For accountants interested in updating their skills.

Typical of all "Offical Guides" this book is complete, however, without any lightness. It tells the nuts and bolts wthout the humor of a "... for Dummies" book. If you plan on doing any advanced work, other than just keeping your check book, then an "Offical Guide" may be necessary.

The least user-friendly software 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have worked in computer industry for over 20 years, and have never seen a piece of software that is so difficult to install. The customer support people sent me to the education software support people, who never returned calls or emails. Make sure you have an IT consultant installing the software for you... for a software that costs more than $110, this is not acceptable.

awesome! 5 out of 5 stars.

Editorial Review:

Carol Yachts Peachtree textbook is the market leader because her pedagogy is unmatchedshe incorporates real-world businesses; step-by step-directions; numerous screen illustrations; challenging exercises and projects; and a website with additional resources. The 12th edition teaches you how to use Peachtree Complete Accounting 2008 software including how to set up service, merchandising, nonprofit, and manufacturing businesses. The primary goal is for the student to have a working familiarity with the software after completing the course with this text.

21st Century Accounting Information Systems 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Unlike many of the other AIS textbooks still being sold, this textbook was well written to begin with and was seriously edited and re-written where necessary to improve its teaching quality in this 5th Edition.

The only criticism that I have of the text was the failure to clearly address the problem of how to code database entries so that a statement of cash balance could be generated using the direct method.

I would recommend a different graphic artist for this next cover, but the authors are right up there with Charles Horngren in my book for writing easy to read and understand Accounting textbooks.

Excellent for self-study when learning this in a classroom is not a viable option.

The only worthy competitor with this textbook is "Accounting Information Systems" 3rd Edtion by James A. Hall which I also recommend .

Editorial Review:

The book focuses on providing skills necessary for a foundation in enterprise risk management--particularly as these risks pertain to information systems and encapsulated business processes. Fundamental to an enterprise risk management orientation, from an information systems perspective, are the underlying enterprise systems, e-business systems, and controls for maintaining these systems.

Help is here for the financially challenged! 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

I found this book to be extremely helpful and informative. Mary Hunt offers practical advice in a manner that makes you feel like you're listening to advice from a good friend or relative who has been through it all. She also made me feel like I wasn't a freak for having bad financial habits but that I needed to learn how to break them. For those of you out there who are compulsive spenders (like myself), this book is a great way to start getting on the right financial track.

Editorial Review:

Where is it written that women don't do money? When it comes to women and finances, times have changed. Personal finance guru Mary Hunt answers the call and offers women essential money know-how in this second edition of her award-winning book, The Financially Confident Woman. Originally released in 1996, this new and expanded edition gives women the tools to get out of debt for good and create a debt-proof future by changing the way they view money.

Follow Hunt's inspiring journey as she shares how her faith, hard work and perseverance helped her to repair the damage caused by years of credit-card abuse and wasteful spending.

College textbooks 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I buy a lot of my textbooks on Amazon. I have always gotten great service and substantial savings.

A dry, technical analysis of economics; with errors 1 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This textbook is the most bland and uninteresting of every textbook I have ever read. The content is generally written out in an extended technical format with virtually every chapter packed full of formulas, graphs, and tables without nearly enough descriptive information to make sense of it all. So much material is glossed over in each of the 19 chapters, it is difficult to digest most of it especially in a distant learning 1-semester college course (without having in-class lectures).

I have to say, for a "basic economics" book, this is anything but. In fact, the material written about is so complex and the quizzes and tests so challenging that, for an added fee, you are encouraged to purchase an additional "study book" to accompany the main book! The author clearly knows a lot about economics, but not a lot about making the material interesting nor digestible. I read each chapter twice, studied the review notes and chapter summaries, and still struggled to grasp many of the economic concepts. The quizzes and tests released by the publisher are likewise so challenging that it is terribly daunting to take them, even with an open-book policy.

Finally, for being a 14th edition the book and its accompanying material surely isn't devoid of any errors! Some portions of this book are updated to reflect 2005 and even 2006 information, while other parts have been carelessly neglected and still contain conflicting information from earlier editions. The PowerPoint summaries provided by the company are riddled with typos and technical/formatting issues; some even have "editor comment" notes still stuck to various slides. Finally, both the quizzes and tests have multiple blatant ERRORS in them, so answers which are factually correct based on the book's own material were scored as incorrect on more than a few occasions. I can't believe that such an expensive book, at its 14th edition, would still have such errors within its materials. Apparently the author doesn't believe in proofreading or just dreads reading over his own sandpaper-dry material. This book has left a bitter taste in my mouth and was anything but enjoyable to read. Based primarily on the errors encountered in the book and related materials, I have recommended that the professors at my college explore other alternatives, and they agree.

Editorial Review:

Mastering economics has never been easier. BASIC ECONOMICS introduces you to macro and microeconomics in a streamlined, straightforward fashion that makes economics easier to understand. Your purchase includes two time-saving resources: access to InfoTrac College Edition's online university library and online study tools through Economic Applications! With Economic Applications, you'll have online access to study guides and review materials that will help you succeed in the course. And with InfoTrac College Edition, you'll save time, save money--and eliminate the trek to the library. Log in and access a library of more than 5,000 academic and popular magazines, newspapers, and journals.
