I purchased Green Clean after reading the positive reviews from this Amazon site. I was so disappointed in this purchase that I only made it half way through the book and had to come on line right away to warn others of this useless publication. The first half of the book details why you should clean green, as I am a novice to green cleaning I felt I would learn at least something new I had not heard before. Unfortunately, this was not the case as the author's state well known issues with our societies over use of toxic substances and the hazards of many of the chemicals on the market today. Not only was the information common knowledge and very basic but the authors stated these points over and over again in relentless fashion until I gave up reading the book in a linear fashion and moved on to try to find information regarding the actual cleaning of my home. This publication offers few recipes on creating your own homemade cleaners only about 10 real pages of recipes in a 200 page publication and short changes the readers by simply encouraging them to just buy green products already on the market. To make matters worse I felt the advice given on cleaning in this text condescending and ridiculous. Who doesn't know to hang up towels to dry, to attend to stains immediately if they can, or how to sort laundry? Green Clean seems to me better suited for a simple website than a publication, I recommend you save your money or purchase Better Basics for the Home.

This book is a must have for cake decorators who make flowers. As with all Alan Dunn books it is beautifully presented. He is truly the master of flowers in sugar.

I followed the recipe to the t, and yet my chocolate sour cream cupcake fell flat. I was making them for the son's 4th birthday. Luckily I know enough about baking to know to add more flour. My second batch came out perfectly. I returned the book ASAP. I was looking for "new" recipes, but decided to just do my own thing.

"Page 144 the "Pain D' Epice" French Honey Spice Bread, 1 loaf. Calls for 1 1/2 cups honey, 1 1/3 cups milk, 2 eggs, spices AND 1/2 cup of flour."

Actually, page 144 calls for 3/4 cup plus two table spoons of whole-wheat flour AND 3/4 cup plus two tablespoons of rye flour.
I have baked this twice and it always comes out perfect.

The recipes in the book are incorrect. I am suprised that the authors let this go to press without double checking each recipe. As you can see from other reviews, others have come to the same conclusion. As for me, I am returning the book.

I love cookbooks. I love to read them, cook from them and collect them. This is one of those books that has lovely photos but precious little content. First the positives -- the lecture about buying eggs produced from free range chickens was quite informative and convincing. Additionally, the book was written with great wit and humor, but unfortunately that's the sum total of the pluses. The cupcake recipes and decorating tips are uninspired. These are designs and recipes that have appeared in one form or another in typical homemaking magazines. And, I am still stumbling over the author's insistence that margarine is better than butter in baking. This is the second cookbook I've read this week that suggested using only the best ingredients and then made a case for a hideous chemical ingredient -- in this case it was margarine, in the other book it was vanilla artificial flavoring. Perhaps it is just me, but that kind of inconsistency is beyond annoying. Either use the best all the way through or don't. Anyway, the author comes across as a lovely person, someone you'd love to have tea with, but the book carries little of value.

This cookbook is quite pretty, pictures are lovely, nice glossy pages but....
the recipes are just plain and often awful. Like many of the other reviews these are tasteless recipes. Most of them the amount of time and cost to icing 24 individual cupcakes you could just purchase them at a bakery and save yourself hours worth of work. The Hot Chocolate and Marshmallow cupcake just calls for making dark chocolate cupcakes (which were way too dry) and then toasting marshmallows and putting them on top as the icing. What?!
If you need a cupcake cookbook purchase the Cake Doctor Cupcakes by Anne Byrn. It's well worth the money, this cookbook is not. Just go to the library and borrow it because you will want to return it afterward.
