When we think of an inheritance, thoughts of money or some jewel-encrusted heirloom usually spring to mind. Well, Linda Fisher's inheritance did get her out of financial trouble, but it was nothing more than one of her mother's recipes and the values with which she was raised.

Suddenly finding herself divorced and struggling to support her son and make ends meet, Linda, rather than ask for public assistance, vowed to take care of her own. She dug up her mother's pancake recipe and modified it into a muffin batter.Then she loaded up her red Radio Flyer wagon and hit the pavements of Westminster, Maryland, selling mouthwateringly delicious muffins -- blueberry, peach cobbler, black bottom, burnt sugar, apple dumpling, to name just a few -- and soon became a local favorite, known around town as "the Muffin Lady."

Just when business started booming, however, the Carroll County Health Department told her to pack up her wagon because she didn't have a "department-approved commercial kitchen." Well, Linda wasn't going to take that lying down! She fought back, and the whole community came out to support her. Finally the Westminster Volunteer Fire Department offered her the use of their state-approved kitchen, where she still bakes muffins today.

In The Muffin Lady,  Linda shares the legacy of riches that was handed down by her mother. These gifts are useful both inside and outside the kitchen -- recipes whose ingredients include sugar, flour, perseverance and pride.

I've never done this-write a review. But someone gave this book only 2 stars, and that really bothers me. The author's other baking books, now almost impossible to find, were very highly rated, and rightly, and this one is the best of them all-and comprehensive.
Oh, yes, there are a few ingredients you'll need to buy at a health food store. BUT, well worth the trip.
Bake up a batch of her wonderful muffins, and watch your kids devour them as mine did. I made a batch of the apple pecan, by choice, to start my family off on a cross-country trip-they are special.
The cookies are unbelievable. The baked goods too.
There are many ideas for substitutions, and many ideas for those special needs-like diabetes, coronary artery disease, allergies (the wheat-free, egg-free, sugar-free, low-fat, etc.) AND everything not only tastes good, but also is good for you, loaded with nuts, seeds, whole grains, fruits, vegetables....
Easy to follow instructions, flawless recipes. Delicious results, for those of us who don't eat white bread. For those who do, expand your horizons.
Really, this book is a stand out in health-oriented baking-I should know, I've bought them all. I can promise you two things: one, you will not like every recipe, some you won't even try; and two, you will love most of the recipes and find yourself making them again and again.

A terrific book for anyone looking for new and different muffin recipes! All the familiar favorites are there, but you'll also find a fun collection of new recipes; garlic-corn, seafood, mint chocolate chip, and black forest. If you like quick,tasty recipes like these, you'll also like any of the Gooseberry Patch books...filled with yummy recipes & easy how-to's.

Mad about Muffins is a wonderful idea for a cookbook and it is very attractive but I think that the author could have found better recipes. The muffins are all very edible but they are not outstanding and the results do not always look "bakeshop pretty". The ingredients called for are simple and most people who bake often will have them on hand. There are many basic recipes (bran, blueberry, corn etc) but there are also some exciting flavor combinations (pumpkin apple, orange pineapple) and not always sweet (some savory ie. Buttermilk Scallion Parsley potato). If you are crazy about muffins then this cookbook is a safe bet but you can find just as good if not better muffin recipes in another baking book that covers alot more categories including muffins.

This Muffins book is the ONLY Muffin book you'll ever have to buy. This book not only has Muffins GALORE, but it also has recipes for quick breads like banana bread and zucchini bread. All the recipes come out perfect and it tastes YUMMY! This book is my 10th cookbook that I have bought from Jean Pare's series Company's Coming. I'm trying to collect all of the books to have a complete collection. I would also recommend the Cookies book from this series by Jean Pare. Cookies book is Cookies Galore!

This was my first Company's Coming book, given to me before I was married, and I have since gained quite a collection of these books. This one is wonderful! I have used it for muffins, cinnamon rolls, quick breads/loaves, etc. Company's Coming books are always guaranteed to have great recipes.

My mom has a copy I have a copy. Pretty well covers the Muffin and Tea Biscuit circuit. With a few changes you can reate new recipes.

I have used a number of Karen Pepkin's recipes, much to everyone's delight! I highly recommend this book!

Okay, I admit it, I'm a cookbook snob. When this cookbook arrived on my doorstep, I was tempted to leave it there. I figured a book with "Pillsbury" on the cover would be full of unimaginative recipes calling for prepackaged ingredients. Boy, was I wrong! Every muffin recipe I've tried has been moist and delicious and interesting, and the quick breads are fabulous, too. The instructions are clear and straightforward and seem to be aimed at novice bakers (it makes a great gift!). Every recipe has nutritional information, and it's also packed with cute tips and hints on each page. (Stuff like how to substitute lemon juice or vinegar if you're out of buttermilk, or suggested additions, or even directions for hulling strawberries.)

And my fears were unfounded--they don't even mention Pillsbury flour, for Pete's sake. The only even *slightly* iffy thing is that they call for "margarine or butter" in the ingredients lists and then tell you what to do with the "margarine" in the instructions. But maybe that's just for the cholesterol-phobic.

I'll say it again--don't hesitate, buy this book now! And buy another one as a gift for your favorite baker or for someone who's just getting started. They'll be thrilled!

This is a great bargain, as the first reviewer states. There are a plethora of beautiful and inspirational photos, but the recipes are achievable. Many fancy chocolate cookbooks have fabulous looking recipes, but they require half a day, or more, to complete.
My daughter and I just made the Guiness Stout Cake and were very happy with the results.
I haven't tried their easy way of tempering chocolate, yet, but it looks quick and fairly foolproof.
One of the trends in chocolate cookbooks recently, see Chantal Coady's book, is savory dishes. This book includes a variety of tempting fare in that department, too.

This book is a call to action. Makes you want to run to the kitchen with it's beautiful images and interesting stories so you can read while you're waiting for the oven to heat up. With so many unique recipes-not just chocolate cake, it's a bargain!

Clayton's writing is, as always, friendly, clear, and concise. But there are disappointments as well as rewards. The butter crackers and hamburger buns were wonderful, but the hazelnut-buckwheat muffins were just so-so, and Mrs. McNab's Scones were so salty I had to throw them out. The book is fun to explore, though, and there's even a recipe for dog biscuits that my spaniel has been urging me to try...
