It's no wonder there are lines out the door of Elisabeth and Chad's acclaimed Tartine Bakery. It's been written up in every magazine worth its sugar and spice.     I visited Rather Sweet Restaurant in Fredricksburg, Texas with a friend. We both had chocolate cake for desert and decided it was the best we had ever had. So I was on a quest for the recipe. I found it in this book, made it for a party and got the same results! Heaven, this lady can bake and tell you how to bake too!

    Of all the cookbooks I got this year for Christmas (they're my favorite holiday gift, even over jewelry), this was my most treasured. As a relocated Texan now living in NY, I was worried this would dissapoint and/or embarrass with a wrong impression of good Texas cooking. Nope. It's great.

    I've fallen asleep with it in my lap several nights already!

    This is such a great book! I'm a huge pasta lover, and I love trying new and interesting recipes. This book has a wide array of options. I've tried a handful already and can't wait to try more. There are lots of recipes with very few, simple ingredients, and yet the results are incredible. You can make a lot of them with things you already have in your pantry. And of course, if you want to you can go buy a few more and try something entirely different. Definitely pick up this book if you want easy and fast ideas for pasta that will taste like you're eating at a restaurant.

    I have quite a library of cook books and this one has quickly become my favorite baking book. This book is not only visually beautiful, but the recipes are well written and easy to follow.

    I certainly hope to see more books by Alisa Huntsman!

    This is a very beautiful cook book,the pictures and all the how to do information really helps me out and makes me want to bake these enticing cakes.It will make for very nice hostess gifts over the coming Holiday Season. The cakes look very professional, but even a non baker like me can bake one..truly amazing!

    This is a great book for people who love to make cakes. The recipes are pretty easy to follow and the pictures are gorgeous. Many of the flavour combinations are very creative and unique, but the book also includes classic flavours such as black forest and pina colada. If you like to make impressive-looking cakes, get this book!

    The La Brea Bakery had humble beginnings, initially offering only rustic bread. But the locals clamored for more, so owner Nancy Silverton--to ever-widening acclaim--introduced everyone's favorite sweets, including cookies, tarts, crisps, and crumbles. The irresistible sights and smells of a good local sweets shop permeate her second cookbook, Pastries from the La Brea Bakery, a follow-up and companion to Breads from the La Brea Bakery. The recipes are designed with the novice baker in mind (baking tools and ingredients are indexed with brief explanations of importance), but the book courts all levels of baking experience. For the more advanced, Silverton shows how to visually accentuate her creations with richly colored fruits and sugars that create varying caramelized effects in delicious ways. Dough recipes include bobka, brioche, and croissants; in the more decadent sweets department are recipes for cookies, tarts, scones, and an entire chapter on doughnuts.
