The photos in this book are beautiful and inspiring. I cannot read it without wanting to make sushi.

Contents include under these major categories:
-Basics
-Making
-Eating

The best part is the simple and clean photography, especially of the fish which the show what they look like both whole (scales and all) to cut up.

The "pressed sushi" section is my favorite, very impressive!

Good one. I recomend it. 5 out of 5 stars.

I am a semi-professional chéf. I saw this book in a friend's library and fell in love with it. I bought one myself recently and found it even better as I read it. I highly recommend it.

I have 2 more sushi (at home) books in my library. They are also quite good but this one is superior. Detailed descriptions, beautiful pictures and perfect knowledge. There's no need for another sushi book.

Also, congratulations to DK publishing and authors Kimiko Barber & Hiroki Takemura on such a masterpiece.

Wasn't what I was hoping for... 2 out of 5 stars.
2 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I was looking for a book that would show some really good red salsa recipes. This one has I think 2 total. The rest are not what I would call 'salsa'. But maybe that's because I'm just a hick from Missouri. If you call just about anything mixed up in a bowl 'salsa' then you might like this book, personally I didn't think it was worth the shipping cost.

A great find 5 out of 5 stars.

If you like homemade salsa, this book may be just what you're looking for. THE GREAT SALSA BOOK by Mark Miller is all about salsa. The book includes over one hundred pages of salsa recipes. Everything from tomato salsas to chile salsas to tropical mango salsa and other fruit salsas is coverd. Corn and bean salsas, nut, seed and herb salsas, and plenty of other salsas are covered too. Miller includes color photos of all his prepared dishes as well, making this is truly a great salsa book.

    Editorial Review:

This sparkling full-color cookbook features 100 widely varied recipes - tomato and tomatillo, chile, tropical, fruit, corn, bean, garden, ocean, exotic, and nut, seed, and herb. Includes hints on handling volatile peppers, suggested accompaniments, and, of course, a heat scale.

Recipes are not sugar free 2 out of 5 stars.
7 of 14 people found this review helpful.

I was very disappointed in this book. Approximately 80% of the recipes contain sugars in the form of fructose from fruit or vegetables. Apples, oranges, carrots, corn, onion, dates, cherries, bananas, etc. are all high in fructose. I guess I was hoping to see more recipes not containing any sugars.

Wonderful everyday recipes 5 out of 5 stars.

Just what I was looking for & at an affordable price! Due to aspartame poisoning, I needed to use a natural, no calorie sweet product for my baking. Stevia is the answer! This book gives me the proper amount of Stevia to use when I make lemonade from my fresh lemons, apple dishes from my fresh apples and all those goodies I crave! This is a must have in everyone's cooking repetroire! Loosing weight and feeling healthier without feeling deprived!

    Editorial Review:

The author offer health-conscious readers 168 creative recipes using the herb Stevia as a sweetener. In addition to dozens of mouth-watering dessert suggestions, this book provides a tantalizing array of breakfast, main course, salad and side-dishes - all sugar-free!

The Best Cookbook 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I am a cookbook junkie, and this is absolutely one of the best cookbooks that I have purchased in a long time. This is a must for anyone trying to eat healthy for the new year. There are wonderful photos of every single recipe.

Every recipe is delicious 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

The recipes take a boring meat (chicken) and make it scrumptious. We haven't found a recipe we don't like yet! Some of the recipes take a long time (chicken dumplings) but others are quick for weeknights. The book is well-organized with one-dish meals, dinner tonight (for faster recipes), on the grill, and recipes to serve company. The nutrition information is always included and the meals (if you stick with the portion size suggested) are "heart healthy" as most of them don't use chicken skin.

    Editorial Review:

Cooking Light fans will have something to cluck about with this handsome edition of Essentials Recipe Collection series. It’s destined to be drooled over as much for its superb visual appeal and readability as it is for the dozens of fresh recipes. All have been kitchen-tested at least twice, often more, to guarantee the "yum" factor. This new collection reflects the fundamental essence of Cooking Light magazine: good taste, good food, and healthy living.

    Editorial Review:

"Eat locally, eat seasonally." A simple slogan that is backed up by science and by taste. The farther away from the market something is grown, the longer it must spend getting to us, and what eventually arrives will be less than satisfying. Although we can enjoy a bounty of produce year-round -- apples in June, tomatoes in December, peaches in January -- most of it is lacking in flavor. In order to select wisely, we need to know more. Where and how was the head of lettuce grown? When was it picked and how was it stored? How do you tell if a melon is really ripe? Which corn is sweeter, white or yellow?

Russ Parsons provides the answers to these questions and many others in this indispensable guide to common fruits and vegetables, from asparagus to zucchini. He offers valuable tips on selecting, storing, and preparing produce, along with one hundred delicious recipes. Parsons delivers an entertaining and informative reading experience that is guaranteed to help put better food on the table.

Great book for a hunter 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is wonderful because it shows how to field dress a deer and then how to cut the meat the way a butcher would. I consider myself a good cook, but when confronted with a huge piece of meat still in "deer form", I had no idea where to begin!
I have not made any of the recipes in the book, so I cannot say for certain how useful they will be. I did look at many of them, and they seem like they will be good. For me, the book is worth owning simply for the butchering part. It also has many unusual recipes for cooking other game animals, and lots of pictures for everything.

What do you really want to know? 5 out of 5 stars.
41 of 41 people found this review helpful.

The ratings seem to be waffling around on this one so maybe I can help. I own this book and love it but you may or may not depending on what you really want this for.

If you want a book that is jammed full of recipes of different sorts and help you come up with some on your own this thing is a treasure.

If you want a hard core how-to on sausage making, then you need to look somewhere else. This book is pretty light in my opinion on the technical details.

The most complete book bar none is Rytek Kutas's book. I've seen that book selling second hand for $165. You don't need to pay anything near that amount though.

Here's a tip though. If you want to make "fresh sausage" let me tell you, it ain't rocket science. You grind the meat and stuff it in a casing. Let it sit in the fridge for a day and fry up what you want and freeze the rest. The finer points will come to you I promise. Cured sausage is a little different though. You can make yourself mighty dang sick if you don't do it right. If you want to try "fresh sausage" making, don't get wrapped around the axel on the technical details. With practice you will get it right and it doesn't take long. Buy this book for the recipes alone.

The Devil Made Me Do It! 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

There are oodles of great recipes for spicy deviled eggs in this book. Some with crab or shrimp or bits of bacon or ham take the egg to a new level. And if you have one of those wonderful egg-shaped platters for deviled eggs, you'll be the hit of the party if you bring one of the recipes from this book. Plus the color photos are delicious looking, too.

awesome addition to any cookbook collection 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

What a great investment! Deviled eggs, that pot luck standard, have been given a much needed overhaul with this little gem of a book, with recipes that take the egg so far beyond mayo and a bit of mustard with a shake of paprika. Every recipe I have tried has been a huge hit at the parties I have taken them to. The introduction has the most successful instructions for a perfect hard-cooked egg that I have ever tried. The recipes are easy to follow, reasonably sized portions, with amusing little tidbits interspersed throughout. All in all, this has become one of my favorite books to turn to!

    Editorial Review:

A revered favorite for generations, deviled eggs are not only the ultimate party food but also great side dishes, first courses to an elegant dinner, or additions to a salad to round out a light lunch. In Deviled Eggs, Debbie Moose introduces 50 recipes for making deviled eggs, with flavors that range from light and simple (Springtime Herb Delights) to elegant (Avocado Angel Eggs) to gutsy (Blue Devils) to fiery (Tex-Mex Diablos). With tips for perfectly hard-cooked eggs, ideas for creative presentation, and gorgeous full-color photography of the eggs themselves, Debbie Moose’s Deviled Eggs is devilishly good.

I made wonderful sour fermented dills after I read this book 5 out of 5 stars.
31 of 32 people found this review helpful.

I found this book in the local library several years ago. I read it from cover to cover. I just had to buy it! The front part of the book covers theory in detail. I learned all about fermenting pickles (full sours and half sours, etc.) There is information on making your own sauerkraut. Most of the recipes are for non-fermented pickles. There are recipes covering a wide variety of vegetables. An excelent book for both recipes and basic information on both fermented and non fermented pickles. I have tried many of the recipes.

Different Recipes 4 out of 5 stars.

Safe food preservation for pickles & Relishes 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was revised in 2001. One of the people editing this is a Master Food Preserver Instructor, therefore each and every recipe is safe to eat if you follow the directions. Good selection of recipes, including some updated safe family recipes. Detailed instructions for the beginner and reminders for the experienced food preserver. A section on what possibilities caused your end result to go wrong, another learning lesson.
I'm very happy to add this book to my library for reference and additional learning.
