a cookbook for the everyday venison cook 5 out of 5 stars.
65 of 65 people found this review helpful.

This cookbook was mentioned in our local paper as "the best venison cookbook ever." I was tired of game cookbooks with exotic recipes, while meanwhile we have 100 pounds of venison in the freezer. This book is great!! Special recipes for prime cuts, yes; but also chapters on using the crockpot, ground venison, casseroles, grilling, stews, and soups. Within a month I had tried ten recipes and they were all excellent. You will not face the dilemma of a significant portion of frozen venison in October with this book. I only wish I had ordered it sooner.

Great book great meals. 5 out of 5 stars.

I have about 15 or so game cookbooks, this is one of the best! Simple, easy instructions and lots of excelent recipies. From simple to elegant and great variety. This is a cookbook that you will use over and over!

This is the best. 5 out of 5 stars.

This is the first of, I believe, three cookbooks by the Casadas. This is, without a doubt, the best venison cookbook in existance. I have about 20 venison cookbooks. This is the best. I really like the slow cooker section.

A Real Winner! 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

While visiting an old school friend that I hadn't seen for 40 years, we discovered that we both loved cooking and cookbooks. She showed me this book she was using to prepare dishes for a dinner party and highly recommended it. After Amazon was able to track it down and deliver it to me, I found that the recommendation was certainly justified. Every receipe I have used has been wonderful! As a "transplanted Hoosier" it also has brought back a lot of great memories. I am a cookbook collector and this book is a terrific addition to my collection.

excellent cookbook 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a great cookbook except that it repeats a lot of recipes from other Donna Hay books. If you have only one or two Donna Hay cookbooks and love chicken then get this book. If you already have a collection (I have about 6) you will still get some new ideas but maybe buy the book, have a look through it and if you don't see enough new recipes you want to try, give it as a gift. It made a great gift along with the salad and vegetables book for a friend of mine who doesn't eat beef or fish so is always looking for new ways to prepare chicken. I ended up keeping the book AND ordering a 2nd copy as a gift. The recipes are great, and despite having many of them in other books, I like having them all in one place so I am not flipping through multiple books looking for one random chicken recipe. As always, Donna Hay's books have beautiful photography and a picture to go with every single recipe. Plus there is lots of info about different cuts of chicken and the recipes are organized by cooking method. I have already tried the harrissa yogurt baked chicken, the chicken mint rice noodle salad, the lemon grass ground chicken in lettuce cups, and the chicken lemon pasta- all are delicious.

Editorial Review:

Featuring 60 simply beautiful recipes for all our favourites, this is the only chicken cookbook you'll ever need.

Editorial Review:

From Seattle to New York, from Missoula to Miami, game is appearing on many restaurant menus and gracing more and more tables at home. Why? Because game, whether buffalo or boar, partridge or pigeon, is a delicious, low-fat, nutritionally impressive, and versatile alternative to more traditional meats. And since so much game is now farm-raised, it's tender and flavorful, and, best of all, readily available in butcher shops and grocery stores everywhere.
Clearly, the time is right for "Wild About Game, "a comprehensive, updated cookbook by a nationally recognized expert in cooking game. In this groundbreaking book, Janie Hibler offers detailed information, helpful techniques, and contemporary recipes for wild and farm-raised game. The 150 recipes range from simple dishes--Buffalo Burgers and Roast Muscovy Duck with Persimmons and Figs--to sophisticated ones--Venison Osso Buco and Ostrich Satay.
"Wild About Game" is divided into chapters by the types of game--birds, large game, and small and exotic game. Each begins with an explanation of each type of animal--wild and farm-raised--including what they eat, how and where to buy their meat, and the best cooking method for each cut. Then comes the best part--the recipes. Some are for farmed game, while others are innovative twists on wild game dishes that Hibler has been cooking for more than thirty years. And if you're hankering to make a recipe, but have no game, Hibler offers suggestions for non-game substitutions, such as Cornish hens for squab or pork tenderloin for venison. Other sections include recipes for smoking game, marinades and rubs, sauces, and side dishes.
Color photographs of favorite dishes and archivalphotographs and etchings are included along with a list of nutritional data for each type of game, an unusual American game timeline, and an extensive resource list for game that can be delivered to your doorstep. Try just one recipe from "Wild About Game," and you'll soon be wild about game yourself.
