Editorial Review:

The books in this series from the editors of the "Food Service Professional" are the best and most comprehensive books for serious food service operators available today. These step-by-step guides on a specific management subject range from finding a great site for your new restaurant to how to train your wait staff and literally everything in between. They are easy and fast -to-read, easy to understand and will take the mystery out of the subject. The information is "boiled down" to the essence. They are filled to the brim with up-to-date and pertinent information. The books cover all the bases, providing clear explanations and helpful, specific information. All titles in the series include the phone numbers and web sites of all companies discussed. What you won't find are wordy explanations, tales of how someone did it better, or a scholarly lecture on the "theory". Every paragraph in each of the books is comprehensive, well researched, engrossing, and just plain fun-to-read, yet are packed with interesting ideas.

Editorial Review:

This illuminating study of cognac—written by an internationally recognized expert and leading authority on the subject—explores the fascinating, often dramatic history of this spirit and the world-famous town of its origin. Nicholas Faith tells an extraordinary story of fraud and reveals how it helped provide the foundation for the system of control that now protects its manufacture and sale. He closely examines every aspect of cognac’s increasing prominence in today’s markets, gives detailed profiles of cognac’s key producers, and presents a full account of the intricate production techniques used to make cognac. To top it off, there’s a complete guide to drinking and enjoying the wide range of cognacs available worldwide.

Nicholas Faith’s first wine book, The Winemasters, was published in 1978 and won the André Simon award. He is the author of Mitchell Beazley’s Classic Wine Library Cognac, which won the Gourmand Best Spirit Book 2004, as well as other well-received works on Champagne and on major Bordeaux châteaux.

Spend a few extra dollars on a book that is worth it 2 out of 5 stars.
58 of 58 people found this review helpful.

I puchased this book at the same time as a martini shaker and thought it would be a good companion to my new shaker and glasses.

This books is very small, flimsy and posseses a lot less than than can be found at a basic drink website. ...the book is cheap BUT it is worth about $2, thats it. In looking through this book, I felt like I could have put together something better written, more informative, and thorough in about 2 hours sitting at the computer.

There are some good recipes in the book but most of them are variations of the same martini. I would recommend skipping this book and buying one of the other drink/martini books that cost a few $ more.

Maybe as a gift with a shaker? 3 out of 5 stars.
40 of 40 people found this review helpful.

I can only see this being a good book if given as part of a *martini-themed* gift basket... On the other hand the book *shaken not stirred* is much more fun, useful and informative...

The recipes here are good, but standard...nothing to warrent an entire book, really. It would look attractive, tho, as part of a gift set...so its kind of a mixed bag.

If your looking for a book for yourself... a first martini book with recipes, tips, sayings and martini lore, go with the other one i mentioned.

Editorial Review:

Be the hippest person on the block with your collection of 50 martini recipes, ranging from the traditional to today's favorites. Also, learn a little martini history and "mixology" as well as creative ways to garnish your cocktails.

Good ideas but incomplete recipes 3 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This little book has beautiful pictures of a variety of interesting cocktails. However, a large number of them require ingredients that are not generally available. It is reasonable to expect a home bartender to have or make simple syrup. However, these cocktails include items like passion fruit syrup, melon syrup, strawberry syrup, ginger syrup, etc, and no recipes are provided.

At that's not all: mix-masters won't find better recipes for such traditional favorites as Manhattans, martinis and mojitos. Each of the chapters will focus on a particular spirit type--vodka, rum, whiskey--and every page highlights one special cocktail, along with a short description of the establishment that provided the recipe, its address and phone number, and an interesting behind-the-scenes anecdote. There's also useful information on such drink accompaniments as cocktail snacks, complete with sample recipes, and a "Cocktail Clinic," which gives tips on how to throw a great cocktail party, with details on stocking the bar and glassware. For those who want to visit the showcased restaurants and bars, an index lists them all geographically--making this a guide-within-a-guide to America's best nightlife.

First published in 1862, this seminal work in bartending was the first drink book ever published in the United States. Collected here by Jerry Thomas—America’s most famous bartender—are dozens of cocktail recipes, from old standards to mixes invented by Thomas himself, including his trademark drink, The Blue Blazer. Guides for mixing drinks of all categories—including sours, fizzes, and highballs—are included along with instructions on using various bartending tools, from jiggers to ponies and beyond. This is a nostalgic and delicious homage to a drinking era that is gone but not forgotten.

FUNNY...... 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Some fancy names for "western drinks". Living out West I ship this book to friends and family on the East coast just for laughs. They inevitably call me and tell me they just made themselves a "Purple Jesus" or a "Cactus-Rita". It's a funny bar book, if you're not much for hard liquor there are a few food recipes, but it's mostly a drink guide.

GRADY SPEARS HAS DONE IT AGAIN! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

After writing his masterpeice, A Cowboy In The Kitchen, Grady has given us a book of savory cocktails to wash down his cowboy cuisine!

The Reata Rita is the best margarita I have ever had! And I can't wait to try the Sonora Sangria! Grady has even selected listening music for each beverage. You might try the Texas Lemonade if you're a Pat Green fan!

This book is a must have for any hard-core drinker!

Cowboy Coctails Rides High!! 5 out of 5 stars.

I picked up this book to help me out with my menus at a number of "Dude Ranches" I'm the F&B for. This and Grady Spears' other books are going to become required reading for my staff. Theyr'e not only great recipes, they have some great Texas tales and tid bits with a bit of cowboy humor added. Great Stuff!

Editorial Review:

"Fishin' with a Worm, " "Drugstore Cowboy Shake, " "Branding Iron" -- these are just a few of the thirst-quenching libations served up in "Cowboy Cocktails," the best drink collection this side of the muddy Mississippi.

Excellent Book 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I Really Like this book. Just about each recipe comes with a non acoholic version which I like because now I can make the drinks for my children as well. Each drink recipe comes with a picture so you know exactly how your finish outcome is suppose to look. There is 34 drink recipes in the book. Some of the recipes you will find are: Sparkling mint & strawberry lemonade, Mango Tango, Dockside delight, Petal Punch, Mimosa Punch, Citrus cooler, etc. This is a wonderful book to add to any cookbook collection.

Editorial Review:

Imagine a big glass bowl of fruity, frosty, thirst-quenching elixir. In Punch, dozens of simple, delicious recipes are ready and waiting to add a lively dash of fun or a classic touch of sophistication to any get together. From a traditional summer's-here refreshing strawberry lemonade to innovative twists on Champagne punch for the holidays, liquid inspiration is close at hand. Add to that variations with or sans alcohol, and there s something for everyone to enjoy, from the citrus kick of a glass of Margarita Madness to a tasty mug of Coffee on the Cubes (complete with decadent dark chocolate shavings). Helpful advice on selecting the appropriate liquor and which punch bowl to use, and ideas for decorative ice rings and shapely cubes give punch added punch. For every season, every gathering, may your cup runneth over.
