A beautifully photographed and laid out book that has some wonderfully good recipes. This book is so "pretty" you'll want to display it. I had this one out on my coffee table for a while. It is a lovely thin hardback that fits on top of any other books that you may already have on your table. The main downside that I may mention though, is that this book is more modern, "trendy" cocktails. If looking for more of a traditional cocktail book I would advise the quirky book "Atomic Cocktails" or the out-of-print classic by Linda Doerser (still available in some Z-shops or E-bay) called "The Cocktail Bible." I was surprised this book didn't list a receipe for a Cosmopolitan. This would make a good gift for any couple you know that entertains a lot or someone getting married who doesn't already have a nice library of libation books going.

Having known Doug and his counterpoint Eric for a long time, I loved this book. The whole time I read along, I could see the conversations, the players, and the locations. My wife and I sat down to go through this one together (each holding our own copy) and laughed and thought, and tried to avoid arguing for real. Just a really fun conversation starter for everyone.

"Hot" drinks for the cool months!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Wow, what a cool little book filled with "HOT" drinks. I've always been able to find "cold" beverage recipe books that are mostly enjoyed during warm weather (or on a beach!), but not one that has warm drinks for the cooler months. It's a handy guide for making "festive" drinks for the fall and winter months but it also includes coffee and tea recipes that can be enjoyed year-round. It has recipes for one or for a group which is great for entertaining for the upcoming holidays. The recipes are easy to follow and your mouth will water just looking at the gorgeous pictures of these wonderful drinks! SO many recipes are packed in this small package, it would make a great gift for your favorite party hostess. And just in case this review still isn't helpful enough, let me just say two last words........CHOCOLATE MARTINI!!

I purchased the cookbook 101 Sangrias for a friends birthday, and mmmmmm..... I may need to get my own copy. A few of the recipes were a little exotic, but those are fun to try sometimes to. This will be the perfect gift for a friend who likes to work behind the bar.

I was originally looking for a "regular" Mr. Boston book to arm myself with drink recipes for the occasional entertaining my wife and I do at our home. The book had been recommended to me by several friends as being the best bar guide available so I came to Amazon to begin my search. It was here I discovered Mr. Boston Platinum Edition. I ordered the book, it arrived quickly and I'm very impressed.
The book contains a lot more information than just drink recipes. It is an intersesting read and I was surprised to see a history of the origin of a lot of popular drinks. I love a good Manhattan and now I know the city, the "inventor" and the bar where this drink was developed. I also know the difference in the ingredients, what makes whiskey bourbon, rye, etc.
Many of the drinks in Mr. Boston have variations and they are listed with the reasons for the differences. I even know why a drink should be either shaken or stirred.
What I really like besides all the recipes is the section on essential home bar equipment. I have already looked at the web sites suggested in the book and started to order the equipment I need to outfit our new home bar.
The recipes have been contributed by many professional "mixologists" and it is evident that they take pride in their profession.
The book itself is very nice looking and well constructed. The ringed binder is sturdy and the book lay flat so I can read it while my hands are full of bottles and strainers.
This is the perfect book for me, being a beginner, and I highly recommend it for the home bar owner or for professional bartenter who is interested in the right way or a new way to mix a drink and arming himself with many interesting facts to relate to his customers.

With the Good Beer Guide Tim Webb does a superhuman job chronicling the staggering array of breweries, beers, and bars in the Benelux region. I took a trip to Netherlands and Belgium expressly for the beer and for me the book was indispensible. It is organized and indexed very well.

If you are reading this review you are likely at least somewhat interested in Belgian beer and if you are, then you probably can't afford not to use this guide. Not all beers or bars are created equal, even in Belgium. With a limited time and traveler's budget it would be impossible to have savored as many beers as I did without Webb's help.

Because the Benelux countries are among the most pleasant in the world and easiest to get around and travel in, you will not even need a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide--the important stuff (the beer!) is in Tim Webb's book. You can easily find hotels, sightseeing info, and food when you are there, because the region is highly traveler-friendly. However, many of the local beer menus include thousands of offerings and so you can imagine how a guidebook like this might come in handy.

The Good Beer Guide to Belgium will also help you decipher those book-long beer menus and select the right brew for you. With the guide in hand you also might find yourself in towns and villages you never would have visited otherwise, because you were drawn there for a Trappist monastary or a special little bit of brewing history. There are a smattering of other beer guides to the region but none even come close to this one!

"I'll never forget that wonderful moment when the concept of the Margarita Mama was born. I was newly pregnant. (Translation: No alcohol allowed!) It was a hot summer day. I was visiting my in-laws at their beach house, and all my summer-trained insticts called out for a real margarita. Everyone else was indulging in a chilly, sprightly, refreshing cocktail.
