For tea enthusists interested in venturing into green teas~ 5 out of 5 stars.

I wish that more things in life came with a nice, compact, informative manual. :-) I recommend this book to those just beginning their adventure into green teas and also for those who enjoy green tea but don't really know much about finer greens. It starts out by covering the absolute basics like what tea is, how to appreciate it, potential health benefits, brewing basics, etc. I really liked her descriptions of how to brew in a cup/mug, teapot and guywan. Also, she's spot on with infusion baskets. Tea balls or clamp spoons are terrible and she doesn't mind saying so! She then moves on to explore some of the world's most enjoyed green teas from "Gen Mai Cha" to "Yin Hao". She does an excellent job of explaining what to look for in each tea, how to brew them and infuses her personal experiences to further broaden understanding. And, not one to leave it at that, she also talks about tea bags, what to do with spent leaves and liquor, using tea as dye and tosses in some green tea recipes that sound fantastic. I put this book on the shelf right alongside the classic "Tea Companion" by Pettigrew and "The Book of Green Tea" by Rosen. Happy tea drinking!

Editorial Review:

With its own aromas and delights, as well as a host of health bene?ts, including enhancing immune system function and lessening damage from free radicals, green tea continues to grow more popular in American diets. Yet because it is brewed differently, and many varieties of green tea are available, there is more to know about making a good cup of green tea than how to boil water.

The Green Tea User’s Manual leaves no leaf unturned, introducing 16 of the most popular types of green tea, including Dragon Well, Sencha, Jasmine, and the Japanese tea Gen Mai Cha. It describes the three stages of bubbles to look for when boiling water and the various vessels in which to brew, from pots to small covered cups known as guywans. Lovely line drawings, original recipes, anecdotes, lore, and related green tea tips help to make this irresistible little book a perfect gift for anyone with a penchant for tea.

Unique, fun creations. 5 out of 5 stars.

Tea has long been recognized as a restorative, soothing agent for body and mind and other books have been written about tea, but TEA CUISINE offers up something different: a move to take tea from the teapot to the frying pan, soup kettle, and more. Recipes for tea-infused stocks, smoky meat loaf spiced with lapsang souchong tea, and more are unique, fun creations.

Editorial Review:

Add an exciting and healthy new dimension to the flavor of food.

Perfect for the coffee lover! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I received this cookbook a few weeks ago and immediately poured through it, enjoying the story of coffee through the words of author Patrica McCausland-Gallo. She is from Coloumbia and you can tell how much she loves her homeland. Every recipe I have tried has been outstanding. I am a meringue freak and the Coffee Meringue Disks are wonderful. The Three-Milks Coffee Delights are incredible - a combination of two traditional Latin American recipes. Another new favorite is the Asparagus with Savory Coffee Syrup. I'm so excited to try many other recipes from this unique cookbook.

Editorial Review:

A beautiful cookbook that tells the rich history of coffee and includes delectable yet unusual recipes made with coffee! Patricia McCausland-Gallo provides the reader with a wealth of information about the origin and history of coffee along with recipes that include savory main dishes, salads and sides, desserts and drinks of all kinds. Not just for the coffee lover, the food lover is surely to enjoy the interesting recipes and tales truly something for everyone.

a fascinating, detailed book, but. . . 4 out of 5 stars.
45 of 47 people found this review helpful.

The author is a British chef who was the culinary advisor to the PBS Masterpiece Theater series "Upstairs, Downstairs" and "The Duchess of Duke Street." The first 80 pages contain information about tea -- its history, how to make it, how to serve it, the names and uses of every type of implement, and so on. The subsequent 174 pages consist of recipes, and are followed by 15 pages of index. The entire book is sprinkled with amusing anecdotes, some from his childhood.

I found the book fascinating, but I don't know that I'll ever try any of the recipes. These are authentic British recipes (this man has cookbooks dating from the 1700's, and he quotes from them!). The recipes have all been updated for the modern American kitchen and are easy to follow, but I'm not sure how many will appeal to American tastes. I know I'll never convince my family and friends to eat sandwiches containing minced tongue! I couldn't wait to check out the recipes on potted meat because I'd read about it so many times in novels, but discovered it's boiled, shredded meat turned into a paste via melted butter! And there are 8 different potted meat recipes!

If you are interested in history, authenticity, and details, this is the book for you. If, on the other hand, you just want to have a lovely party with foods that more Americans are familiar with, try "Tea with Friends" by Elizabeth Knight (for how to give a tea party), and "The Book of Afternoon Tea" by Lesley Mackley or "Totally Teatime Cookbook" by Helene Siegel (for recipes).

Editorial Review:

The Afternoon Tea Book enables you to re-create at home a complete English tea. This book contains a complete collection of recipes as well as all a full description of the rituals and customs of an afternoon tea.

Awesome! 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

I actually bought this for a friends b-day present and ended up keeping it for myself and getting him another one, I looked through it and realized that it was packed with so many delicate yet simple recipes, even a delicious doughnut section.
it's not a big book, but the info is. Enjoy;)

Editorial Review:

Thè, té, cha, chai—tea is a universal beverage. It links the solemnity of the Japanese tea ceremony and the sustaining high tea of British school children; it can be green or black, fragrant or smoky. To take tea at The Savoy is to combine tradition with all the elegance and sophistication that befits one of London’s great hotels. Anton Edelmann, The Savoy’s Maître Chef des Cuisines, offers exquisite recipes with tales that conjure up leisure time in a bygone era, set against the romantic story of tea and its journey to the West. Here is afternoon tea at its most stylish—aromatic brews, delicate porcelain, impeccably presented dainties. Indulge in feather-light palmiers or cinnamon madeleines. Savor delicate cucumber sandwiches or fragrant honey and ham biscuits for an al fresco summer tea, or luscious cakes to chase away winter doldrums. Taking Tea at the Savoy is a book to inspire endless afternoons of delight.

A delightful history on the gracious tradition of tea from the dependable editors of Victoria magazine. This beautiful book also features ideas and recipes for creating a personal, lovely, and delicious tradition for your self. Tea accessories, various types of teas (afternoon, Victorian, children's, ect.), and how to choose your tea are included to round out this comprehensive guide to the relaxing ritual of tea. A must for all collectors of tea accessories, this book also makes a lovely gift.

Editorial Review:

With beautiful writing, exquisite art and photography, and 63 traditional recipes, this elegant volume pays tribute to the joys of teatime. This centuries-old ritual is serene and intimate, and each page reveals a special way to celebrate the occasion. Take tea (properly brewed, of course) with English savouries and sweets, and an elegant setting of fine china. "Attend" the Mad Hatter's tea party through excerpts from Alice in Wonderland. Lose yourself in the tea-inspired thoughts of M.F.K. Fisher, Marcel Proust, and Henry James. Then try some recipes for classic dishes, such as Cucumber Sandwiches, Lemon Curd Hearts, Salmon Mousse, Currant and Pecan Scones, and Meringue Kisses. And, of course you'll learn about the wonderful variety of teas-from mint and orange pekoe to vanilla milk and iced clove cooler-and how to serve the perfect pot.
