Compiled and organized by London-based food writer and editor Susannah Blake, "500 Recipes: The Only Appetizer Compendium You'll Ever Need" truly lives up to its title with a culinary wealth of easy-to-prepare recipes for delicious, palate-pleasing, appetite teasing, offerings that would grace any formal or informal dining occasion. Profusely illustrated with more than 200 photographs, this compact, 288-page cookbook features tips on how to select the right ingredients and how to make each individual appetizer look perfect in its presentation. There is a comprehensive introductory section on preparation and cooking essentials, techniques, equipment, ingredients, conversions, and troubleshooting. Variations for each recipes are also provided. This book has more than 250 recipes but not a single photo except the cover. I am sorry, but I don't care how good those recipes are because I need beautiful photos of each dish to make me want to cook. I put this book back on amazon for sale as soon as I got it.

I just received Party Snacks! in my mail three days ago and already I'm certain this is money well spent. While having mixed a few beverages from recipes read in one of the author's other books, Good Spirits: Recipes, Revelations, Refreshments, and Romance, Shaken and Served with a Twist, I was fascinated to see what the "noted raconteur" could do to make me a snack-master.

I've tried only one of the 50 recipes (pretty-piquant chicken wings) and they were not only simple, but stylish and delicious! I can't wait to try some of the other great recipes. I highly recommend this book as a great companion to Good Spirits. These two books will turn you into a great bartender, a great host, or maybe even a noted raconteur!

I tried to make some snack on this book and follow the instruction, but turn out not what I expected and not look like the result on the picture.

This book contains a lot of good dim sum recipes and are very authentic. The instructions are easy to follow and the pictures are faithful to the recipes. The recipe for potstickers or jiaoze dough I use is from this book. The har gau and shiu mai recipes are quite good as are the several others I have tried. Be warned, however, dim sum is not something you can whip up quickly. Having this book will not replace going to your favorite Chinese restaurant for dim sum. This is not the fault of the book but the nature of dim sum. There's a reason so many Chinese people go out for dim sum instead of cooking it at home--it takes time and effort to do!

The book is actually quite interesting as a cookbook but not what I expected. The recipes are very involved, definitely not for beginners or even cooks with a little experience. The recipes are also in Chinese with English translation (which is a plus actually!!). I haven't had the time to make anything from it... but it is interesting to read.

I was given this book as a gift just a few weeks ago and it has since become my favorite cookbook. The recipes are accessible to even average-skilled cooks and are absolutely trustworthy, meaning that if you follow the author's directions, you will end up with delicious, impressive dishes that are exactly as she describes. She offers a broad range of recipes, but nothing so esoteric that you can't find the ingredients at your local market. Although the book is about small plates, each of the recipes can stand alone as a meal or a course. I find myself picking it up in the morning and selecting a dish to cook for dinner. I'll pick up whatever fresh ingredients I need on the way home from work and then in under an hour I'll have a masterpiece ready to serve. I have a lot of cookbooks, some that I keep for only one or two favorite recipes that I got back to regularly. What makes this cookbook different is that there are dozens of recipes I know I'll use.
