One of my favorites 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

I use recipes from this book over and over again. This ranks right up there with "The Joy of Cooking" in terms of practicality and ease and taste. I've never had one recipe fail, they are all delicious and easy to make. If I go on an out of town trip, I make something from this book to take along for breakfast, for example the oatmeal raisin scones are delicious and easy to take along in a tupperware container tucked in a suitcase. Or if I go camping with friends I'll make some muffins. One time when some friends had a moving party and we met early in the morning, I made "Eggs for a Crowd" and it was a big hit! Great idea for a cookbook, as who knows more about breakfast foods than B&B's?! Plus, they need to have recipes that are original yet easy to make. I highly recommend this book!

Editorial Review:

With the Breakfast in Bed California Cookbook, you won't have to visit a B&B or be a gourmet cook to make an elegant breakfast. Carol Frieberg has compiled 120 signature recipes from select California bed-and-breakfast inns. Easy to prepare and striking when served, these creative dishes will transform your morning meal into an event worth savoring.

Clever uses for a waffle iron 4 out of 5 stars.

The author has gone to great lengths to make up waffle-able recipies. I really enjoy the carrot-raisin and the oatmeal banana waffles. They freeze wonderfully! Give a copy of this book with a waffle iron to newlyweds!

Absolutely Wonderful! 5 out of 5 stars.

I did not care for waffles until my daughter bought me a waffle iron this past Christmas. So, my search for recipes (I never made them before) began. I found Ms. Greenspan's recipe for Spicy Ricotta Waffles on the the foodtv.com site and they were so delicious that I looked up info on the book on Amazon. Thank goodness! The author covers all areas, from appetizers to desserts. She also includes dips, spreads, oils, etc. Delicious recipes. As another reviewer noted, yes, give this cookbook with a waffle iron to newlyweds, but also to any and everyone who likes waffles. I love this book! You can even make toasted cheese sandwiches in your waffle iron - did you know that? I didn't!!

Inspiration 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Love breakfast, and love this cookbook. You can't go wrong with Ken's recipes. Everything I've tried has been good. A little excitement w/ the Gingerbread Pancakes, which were not as sweet as expected, but with the Cranberry Compote he recommends, became a staple in our household. He has great combinations and seeing them gives me great new ideas to try.

Beautiful Breakfasts 4 out of 5 stars.

Our copy of "Country Breakfasts" bears the sure sign of a favored cookbook: it's splattered with the faint signs of breakfasts past. While the quality of Haedrich's recipes isn't consistent, it doesn't really matter; he keeps coming up with fantastic, sometimes unusual ideas, many of which do turn out to be stunning, and that's enough to forgive a few flops.

I have to give you both a recommendation and a warning. This book contains a recipe for Banana-Stuffed French Toast with Banana Cream. It was so good that we couldn't stop eating it until we were well past the point where common sense told us to stop, and we spent the rest of the morning holding our stomachs and saying, "ow... that was so good... ow... do we have any more? ow..."

Recipes include some very good pancakes and waffles, cereals and grains, a variety of egg recipes, vegetable recipes, meat recipes, sandwiches, quick breads, elegant fare, fruits, jellies and such, and beverages--in other words, a dazzling array of breakfast foods. The Blueberry Cream Cake is to-die-for; we've made it again and again.

The recipes are fairly simple; even the elegant stuff doesn't take much time and effort. The layout is clear and easy to read. Most of the ingredients are ordinary, everyday items available at any grocery store, with a few exceptions.

We haven't adored everything in this cookbook. Some of the whole grain recipes are a little much for us, and some things are just kind of there as far as quality goes. But the stuff that's good--and that's the majority of it--is very good.

All in all, this book is definitely a worthwhile purchase for any breakfast-lover.

One little problem 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 19 people found this review helpful.

I came on site to buy the book, which I intend to do. I borrowed it from the library because I found recipes in it for Christmas morning for the family. The egg and sauage breakfast casserole was great. The skier's toast gave me a little problem. Part of the recipe is a syrup out of karo, brown sugar and half and half which is placed in 13x9 pan, when I placed it in the dish mine turned into caramel..I made it again and put a little water in it and did not cook it that long. It worked this time. It was delicious. I got rave reviews from the family, but I still wonder about that receipe. What was my mistake? Or is something missing from it. Otherwise the book is great and I'm going to buy it right now.

A Gorgeous Book of Exotic Recipes 5 out of 5 stars.

This is quite simply a beautiful book of wonderful Moroccan recipes written by a Moroccan-born American. Kitty Morse was born in Casablanca and now is a food and travel writer living in Southern California. Kitty has been returning to her homeland yearly to lead tours-- most recently a chef's tour of her favorite Moroccan restaurants. This book includes traditional Moroccan recipes that have been tailored to allow preparation in an American kitchen. The photography by Deborah Jones is first rate. From cous-cous to harira soup, this book will help those who are not vegetarians realize they're not missing anything

Donna Rathmell German Never Fails to Deliver! 5 out of 5 stars.
46 of 46 people found this review helpful.

I recently got a waffle iron, but the recipe included with the appliance was disappointing to say the least. I borrowed this book from the library because I have been very pleased with German's bread machine books and thought I would test some of the recipes to see if the book was worth adding to my collection. I shouldn't have worried! I could have bought it outright and saved myself a little time! We have tried the Sweet Butter Waffles (they are as heavenly as they sound) and the Peanut Butter Waffles (also very yummy and popular with the kids as well). In addition to the fabulous recipes, German also gives detailed information on waffle making in general (how much batter to use, how to tell when the waffle is done, etc.) and how to adapt recipes if you want to make pancakes instead. She even gives you "permission" to just mix everything together at once if you don't want to take the time to separate the egg (and I can tell you from personal experience, the results are just as delicious!) If you love waffles, or if you've always wanted to make them but were too chicken to try, this is the book for you!
