The true bible of grilling 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

We have used the recipes in this book for a grilling demonstration day at our store for years. The book contains recipes for out of the ordinary menu items you wouldn't think of cooking on the grill. The last recipe I prepared was for Tortilla and Tomato soup, it was incredible. I'll never be able to eat Campbells again without thinking of these flavors. The other nice thing about this book is that it still covers the basics like dogs and burgers with advice on how to make them the best you've ever tasted.

Beside most of the recipes is a highlighted section on optional ways to prepare them. These suggestions give you the chance to alter the recipe each time you prepare it.

The section at the end on side dishes lets you put together a complete menu of grilled items and those prepared on the stove. This is one stop shopping for dinner ideas!

Editorial Review:

The Jamisons advocate and teach a back-to-basics, high-heat, open air, open flame technique that guarantees juicy, crispy, delectable food. An all-American classic.

Entertaining collection of recipes and anecdotes 4 out of 5 stars.

More than a cookbook, the Authorized Texas Ranger Cookbook includes a brief history of this unique law enforcement agency. As a recent Texan-by-marriage, I was pleased to learn about the Rangers, and was tickled by such recipes as "Beer in the Rear Chicken."

Authorized Texas Ranger Cookbook 5 out of 5 stars.

The book is a gift for my husband's birthday in September. However, I took a peak at the recipes and can't wait for him to try them. He is a wonderful cook, bar-b-ques and smokes meat.

Service was very prompt. I received my book in a matter of days. Condition was perfect.

Cudo's to the author's.

A nice little airport pickup 5 out of 5 stars.
16 of 16 people found this review helpful.

I had some time to kill while waiting for a flight to take off from Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. I started looking at some cookbooks, and this offering from Mad Coyote Joe was displayed prominently. Once you flip through this book, it's as good as bought!

MCJ is upfront about his background - he's not a trained cook, but he loves the food he makes, knows it backwards and forwards, and has a passion for letting others know about how to make the stuff he loves. Most importantly, the language he uses is clear and concise and is therefore accessible to all levels of readers, including those like me who have to ask our spouses where they keep the butter.

The recipe for Joe's 'Two-Chile Salsa' is alone worth the price of admission. This is the type of dish you bring to a gathering and as the guests gorge themselves you're bound to get an incredulous "*you* made this?"-type of reaction.

Editorial Review:

If you thought that gourmet grilling was over your head think again. The host of the popular Southwestern TV show, The Sonoran Grill, Mad Coyote Joe, will have you creating meals that will dazzle your family and your friends. Complete with a list of tools and chile peppers. The Sonoran Grill can turn novice chefs into grilling experts. Here is a collection of more than 130 of the author's best recipes, from Cedar Plank-Roasted Fillet of Salmon to Almond Kahlua Flan, which will entice you to give up your conventional oven forever. So light the grill, invite some friends over, pour a few ice-cold margaritas, smell the chiles roasting over the mesquite charcoal, and wow some friends with a dinner that you thought was beyond your reach. Very soon the best restaurant in town will be in your own backyard!

Great Inspiration for Grillers 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I just purchased Get Grilling after seeing a demonstration by the Food Network Kitchens Staff at Chef Central, and I have to say it is THE best book on grilling I have seen. As someone who was recently crushed to discover an allergy to beef, I thought my grilling days were over. They had me from the first recipe though - shrimp spring rolls with dipping sauce. The creative takes on these recipes are exciting. This isn't a book with 20 million recipes for barbecue sauce. They really took the time and developed many varied dishes and captured the whole spirit of grilling. The varied foods include fun appetizers, as well as lamb, and swordfish. By not simply concentrating on ribs and burgers, they gave me ideas on new things and new ingredients to try. The tips are easy to spot but don't get in the way of the recipe. The shopping tips and explanations of new ingredients and where to get them are helpful also. Worth the price of several other grilling books combined. A wonderful recipe book.

Great recipes and advice for tailgaters and barbeque cooks! 5 out of 5 stars.
11 of 11 people found this review helpful.

John Madden has done a great job of collecting some great recipes from around NFL stadiums where tailgating has become an art and a tradition. His no nonsense, just tell it like it is, book gives great recipes with entertaining sidelights about people who tailgate and love to grill. Reading through the recipes is also helpful for the beginner as tips abound from John and others who helped make the book possible. This is a book for people who love to cook outside, and love to cook beef and pork. Good chicken recipes and soups also. It may not be the best recipe book for vegetarians and side salad nuts, but for most meat eating people, it's the greatest! Whether you listen to John as an announcer of football games or not, you'll appreciate his good advice and candor on FOOD.

Editorial Review:

Sports announcer John Madden has put together over 80 terrific recipes that are perfect for tailgating. Whether it's a college event or an NFL game of the week, you'll find the recipes plus complete information on the ballpark where you plan to dine!

Relief from California Cuisine 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

"Retro Barbecue" by Linda Everett is a refreshing return to the era when few knew (and no one cared) about cholesterol, saturated fat and salt and big hunks of meat were the measure of a mother's love for family and friends. Not that we shouldn't eat a healthy diet, but there is something satisfying about revisiting an era where things really tasted good and when portions covered the plate. The book's pictures remind us that the backyard barbecue was the first serious foray of the average man into cooking and also illustrate the diversity of barbecue grills and fireplaces that predated today's expensive, stainless steel fabrications of ..., ... etc.

I found the recipes quite excellent and wide-ranging. One trying to recreate the backyard feast of their childhood should easily be able to do so with the broad range of side dishes and meats described. Watch your sodium intake for a week, check your blood pressure then indulge in a bit of comfort food that most of us would find far more satisfying than the small and expensive entree in our local gourmet restaurant.

Editorial Review:

The grilled meats, casseroles, and molded gelatin salads of the 1950s defined the comfort foods Americans love. Returning from the war, men wanted a picket-fenced home, a new car in the garage, and a patio with a barbecue. Yes, man was master of the flame, singeing his eyebrows while smoking out the neighbors.

Featuring a colorful collection of nostalgic advertising, collectibles, and graphics, THE RETRO BARBECUE represents America in the golden age of the postwar party. Grill aficionados will appreciate the wide range of regional recipes and flavors, and greenhorns will be lead through all the steps to coronation as king of the coals. Recipes such as Bart’s Backyard Ribs, Rosarita Beach Burgers, Cackle-N-Shout Chicken, and Pink Slipper Pickled Peaches are sure to delight friends and family. To fill out the feast, we’ve included recipes for chili, salsa, side dishes, and desserts. So toss on your apron, grab your spatula, and fire up the grill: It’s retro barbecue time!
