Redneck humor and Southern spice 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

The Redneck Grill: The Most Fun You Can Have With Fire, Characoal, And A Dead Animal: it would do equally well in our humor section, but is featured here for its very serious barbecue recipes, from grilled rabbit to maple-grilled pound cake. Add a layer of saucy Foxworthy redneck humor and Southern spice and an exceptionally handy 'glazed hardcover' format with spill-proof pages and you have a book readily accessible by the 'que.

A charming cookbook 5 out of 5 stars.
10 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Recipes are fairly simple, which greatly enhances the probability that the reader will actually use them. Also the recipes aren't so many, which is good since you just need a few good ones, not an confusing endless array of them. Food is put in a context in a humorous way, which is a nice bonus.

The charm of the book made it one of my favorite cookbooks after the first five (thick) pages.

I bought the book for mysel, but I think it would also make a great gift.

Editorial Review:

With recipes for ribs, chicken, hot dogs, fish, hamburgers, pork chops, and numerous marinades, this is a wonderful cookbook from a man who takes his grilling seriously. In addition to being a spokesperson for Shoney's Foxworthy has a very successful line of barbecue sauces on the market. Couple that with his slightly warped way of viewing the dining experience and you've got a surefire hit book.

Sophisticated, complex flavors 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

New York chef Douglas Rodriguez, known for his bold flavors and flashy, sophisticated approach to Latin cuisine, turns his attention to grilling in this beautifully illustrated, oversize book, full-page photos accompanying many recipes, from the Bacardi Cocktail to the Passion Fruit Trifle.

The backyard hamburger gets a makeover with ground pork and chile, cumin and coriander; boneless beef short ribs are served with an opal basil chimichurri; mango barbecue sauce perks up frogs' legs or grilled pork.

Most of the recipes call for some preparation time in the form of sauces, marinades or relishes. Mussels in Banana Leaves, for instance, requires a saffron reduction to be added to a softened butter, the banana leaves to be cut in a rectangle, dotted with saffron butter and thyme before being folded around the mussels, the packages then wrapped in foil and grilled. Follow this with Grilled Lobster with Coconut-Ginger Mojo or a classical Paella and you may be too tired to eat.

Simpler recipes abound though - Cornish Game Hen with Honey Mustard Garlic Cilantro Glaze is marinated in the glaze a day ahead; Ham Steak with Grilled Pineapple Tomatillo Salsa, Shrimp with Avocado Horseradish Salsa, Salmon with Dill Chimichurri.

Among the sides are a Spicy Radish Slaw, Yucca Hash Browns, Grilled Hearts of Palm and Cherry Tomato Salad. Breads include arepas, flatbreads and cornmeal biscuits and desserts, while not grilled, go well with the spicy fare: Cool Spiced Flan, Espresso Cream. Rodriguez also includes grill basics - adobos, glazes and vinaigrettes.

A book for the cook who wants to dazzle.

Editorial Review:

Tired of the same old marinades and barbecue sauces? This book has the recipes that grillmeisters need to spice things up and expand their repertoire. Drawing on spices, authentic dishes, and grilling techniques from over twenty Latin American countries, Rodriguez and DiCataldo share the secrets of these dynamic cuisines. These 100-plus recipes deliver exotic, seductive flavours, all married by the intense heat of the grill.

Editorial Review:

Dr. BBQ says, "Barbecue's not just for summer anymore!" Ray Lampe is a crusader for the barbecue lifestyle and he's encouraging people in the snow-belt to shovel out the grill and smoker in winter while high fivin' his sun belt fans.  Dr. BBQ's new book is a twelve month celebration of barbecue as Ray considers seasonal cuisine, tells readers how to be a wintertime barbecue chef and talks about how to celebrate a family event "barbecue style".  With over 200 hundred recipes, Ray's menus center around holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as Groundhog Day (a cold climate menu, if he sees his shadow, and a tropical one, if he doesn't), the opening of the Daytona 500, Elvis's Birthday and more.  It's another finger lickin' book, hot off the grill from the king of 'cue, Dr. BBQ.

Beginning with an exploration of the history of chiminea cooking style, this guide is brimming with new ideas and helpful advice for anyone considering purchasing one of these versatile heaters. Over 150 tastebud tinglers like Salmon Smoked in Gingered Tea and Toasted Brioche with Sunshine Fruits are sure to delight.

Great Inspiration for Grillers 5 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I just purchased Get Grilling after seeing a demonstration by the Food Network Kitchens Staff at Chef Central, and I have to say it is THE best book on grilling I have seen. As someone who was recently crushed to discover an allergy to beef, I thought my grilling days were over. They had me from the first recipe though - shrimp spring rolls with dipping sauce. The creative takes on these recipes are exciting. This isn't a book with 20 million recipes for barbecue sauce. They really took the time and developed many varied dishes and captured the whole spirit of grilling. The varied foods include fun appetizers, as well as lamb, and swordfish. By not simply concentrating on ribs and burgers, they gave me ideas on new things and new ingredients to try. The tips are easy to spot but don't get in the way of the recipe. The shopping tips and explanations of new ingredients and where to get them are helpful also. Worth the price of several other grilling books combined. A wonderful recipe book.

If you love to barbecue but would like to add a little flair to your repertoire, zest to your sauce and spice to your life, then this cookbook is for you. Here is a different, tasty grilling recipe for, quite literally, each day of the year. Start with such unusual grilled appetizers as "Ginger Beef Bites" or "Chicken Sate with Peanut Sauce"; build a great meal around such easy-to-prepare meats and poultry as" Herbed Flank Steak with Dijon Mustard" and "Parslied Chicken with Garlic" or eat lighter with such seafood as "Shellfish Brochettes Hawaiian" or "Teriyaki Salmon Steak." There's even a special section of "grilled" salads, such as "Grilled Salad Nicoise" and "Grilled Chicken and Zucchini Salad with Mint"; and great vegetable accompaniments, such as "Grilled Ratatouille" and "Corn on the Cob with Chile Butter. " Experiment with marinades and spicy rubs. Try a variety of barbecue sauces. Throw a real New England clambake or a Texas barbecue. Whether barbecuing for a crowd, making something quick for the kids or preparing an elegant dinner, give a special twist to everything you grill with "365 Great Barbecue & Grilling Recipes.
