Easy Cooking ....... 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Love this cookbook! Easy, quick, good recipes. Some of the recipes are ones you've seen before, but get creative and jazz them up ....... make them your own; it's easy once you have a basic recipe to start with.

This is great for working women ........ literally fix it and it's ready when you get home from work. I use my crockpot year round ....... many people only use it in the winter months, but why heat your kitchen up in the summer time?? If you can't grill outside, I say use your crockpot.

Good Recipes 5 out of 5 stars.

Very easy with easdy to find ingrediants. Combines things I wouldn't have thought of for tasty recipes. very impressed

Great for active lifestyle 5 out of 5 stars.

This cookbook is GREAT. My husband and I both work full time and have a tendency to not eat healthy when we're so busy. With this cookbook, I prepare the ingredients the night before, then when morning comes I throw them all in the crock and **WHOLAH** a healthy meal upon coming home from work.

It does require forethought, but if you can get yourself into a groove, this cook book is GREAT!

The ultimate cookware 5 out of 5 stars.

.

The introduction of the book is dedicated to cast iron pan itself; selection, care and use. The rest of the book is recipes that use the cast iron pan. With cast iron, all you need is the basics to get started and lots of practice.

The soda bread recipe brought me back to my childhood in grandma's kitchen, that alone is worth the price of this book.

My favorite recipe was the Rose-Mary Crusted Rack of Lamb, and there are several others.

Editorial Review:

The cast-iron skillet is the original gourmet-cooking tool. This cookbook aims to show modern cooks how this inexpensive cast iron tool is the best pan in their kitchen. Fusing new and traditional recipes and gathering farm-fresh produce and ingredients, the authors show cooks how to make delicious food in this versatile skillet. Recipes include: Succulent Seared Pork Chops with Plum-Mustard-Cornichon Sauce; Dutch Baby (puffed pancake with lemon and powdered sugar); Grilled Prosciutto-Wrapped Radicchio; and Warm Pear Upside Down Cake.

Editorial Review:

Colette peters, the celebrated queen of the confectionary arts, unveils an inspiring resource for serious home bakers, professional chefs, and aficionados of Colette's incredible edible architecture. The ingenious cake decorator - whose miraculous and luscious concoctions have appeared everywhere from White House Christmases to royal weddings - presents a master class in cake design and decoration, alongside an all-new selection of her own cake designs. With Cakes to Dream On, Colette's inspired creations can now be rendered into show-stopping cakes of your own.

Cakes to Dream On reveals the secrets to fashioning gorgeous and utterly distinctive cakes for all occasions - whether it's an opulent marriage reception (the majestic Ivory Wedding Cake) or a fanciful children's party (the whimsical Homage to Dr. Seuss). Colette presents designs for cake architecture ranging from the imperial splendor of Dolce de Medici, to the elegant grace of Bride's Vintage Cameo, to the topsy-turvy daydream of Mad Tea Party.

Colette begins with the foundations: she illuminates step by step the process of constructing a multitiered cake, from determining serving sizes and choosing appropriate cake pans to making fillings, and ultimately stacking layers so they don't tumble off the table. Cakes to Dream On also discloses insider tricks of the trade: Colette's easy-to-follow instructions in techniques such as sugarwork, gumpaste, brush embroidery, and piping will help readers recreate the spectacular effects of this singular confectioner's toolbox.

Bakers - and their enthusiastic audiences - will discover that these sensual masterpieces tantalize the palate as much as they do the eye. Colette's cake recipes include the Coco-Loco Cake, an alluring marriage of coconut and coffee; the Meringue Buttercream and its luscious lemon, raspberry, and mocha variants; and the ambrosial caramel-tinged Heavenly White Cake.

As breathtaking as Colette's cake works appear, her clear explanations of technique are meant to stimulate readers' creative instincts and give them ideas for crafting their own distinctive confections. With more than 150 dazzling full-color photographs illustrating both processes and finished presentations, and more detailed instruction than ever before, Cakes to Dream On will inspire readers to create their own mouthwatering masterpieces. Colette's master class is truly a launchpad for cake lovers' own confectionary visions.

Great recipes for everyone! 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

After my stint in one of the big, meal-delivery weight-loss programs, I started to round the bend toward my goal weight. It soon came time for me to manage my weight on my own, with healthy, self-prepared meals. This cookbook made it a no-brainer.

Every recipe has a listing of its nutritional information along with the percentage of vitamins in each meal. Truth be told, I'm not terribly into cooking, but the pictures are fantastic and go a long way to motivating me to cook a meal. The fact that most of these recipes are so easy to make is also a huge plus.

I did find one problem, in that some of the ingredients can be a bit difficult to find. Though, I've been quite successful at substituting similar items whenever I couldn't find what was needed at a local market.

While I could take or leave Sandra Lee's television show, I am very glad to have bought this book. I've made 17 of the recipes, thus far. Not only have I enjoyed them, but my husband and VERY picky 2 year old have loved every single one of these healthy meals, as well.

Not such a great basic manual 2 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I'm a decent cook, but I always like to review the basics once in a while. This book just increasingly irritated me the more I read it. As a basic manual (so implied by the title!) it is haphazard and rarely informative, if you can find the information, that is.

Several things about the format of this book I didn't like. White font on a light yellow or green background? Are you serious?? There were a couple pages I couldn't even read. There are also several font-style changes. The hand-written font is often very small and difficult to read.

The pictures are frequently unlabeled, although very pretty. Many times I had no idea what I was looking at because there was no caption, or no sense of scale, or the pictures were very small. I couldn't tell if I was looking at a grain of rice or a loaf of bread.

Some of the recipes are simple enough, but there are some that require ingredients that I would never normally have in the cupboard, nor make a special trip for.

I think the writers from the Food Network may have been too advanced to realize that a book with this title would need to be a lot simpler. I think this is an intermediate book at best, and not very well put-together.

    Editorial Review:

Roughly 6 to 8 million people in the United States alone are afflicted with fibromyalgia. A widespread muscular-skeletal syndrome, fibromyalgia touches people of all ages, male and female, as an unrelieved aching and burning pain, often accompanied by fatigue, that leaves its victims feeling exhausted.

Fibromyalgia inflects terrible wounds that leave no scars, and it is very difficult to treat. While drugs and pain suppressants are available, healthy food alternatives, including herbs and other natural foods, also help in combating the pain and exhaustion associated with the syndrome.

The Fibromyalgia Cookbook is designed to help those who suffer from this affliction to find relief from their discomfort. Focusing on natural foods and herbs, the authors emphasize pure foods with no additives, the lowest levels of toxins, and the greatest amount of nutritional value. The rules are few and basic: No red meat. No green peppers. No eggplant. Avoid heavy, starchy foods. The diet is low in sodium and low in fat, with no processed sugars. (Natural sweeteners such as honey and fruit are used.) No white flour (spelt flour and rice pasta are good substitutes). Soy butter, virgin olive oil, and flaxseed oil are suggested for salads. Many other satisfying possibilities are provided.

An introduction by Dr. Alison Bested explains the nature of fibromyalgia and the role of diet in finding relief from its symptoms. A glossary explains the strengths and dangers of specific foods. The 124 delicious recipes are divided into Soups, Salads, Veggies, Fibro-Fish Dishes, Dressings, Sauces and Dips, Fruit, Rice and Pasta, and Bread. COOKING; HEALTH 6” X 8”, 172 PAGES PAPERBACK
