Love! Love! Love! 5 out of 5 stars.

Not only is Hope Fox great in person, but her book is even better than when I got the pitch in the Chicago airport! The way she explains making delightful and fancy dishes breaks it down and simplifies it so much! After reading some of my favorite food recipes such as cesar salad (my food drug! hehe) I thought to myself, "That's it??!?! I can totally make this! Great book and Hope is fabulous! I am so glad I met her! Such a gem!

Editorial Review:

How would you like to serve up five-star restaurant food at your next dinner party? Editorial Review:

Baby food has undergone a revolution. Supermarkets are stocking their shelves with expensive organic baby food, businesses specializing in home-delivered infant meals are cropping up across the country, and even chefs like Eric Ripert of the renowned Le Bernardin are offering gourmet children's meals in their restaurants. Clearly, parents have caught on to the notion that kids like good food, too, and the health concerns about the sugar, trans fats, and preservatives in processed foods are leading more and more parents to make their baby and toddler food at home.

In 1-2-3 Cook for Me, parents will find hundreds of delicious, simple, and nutritious recipes for babies and young children, and the rest of the family! From Sweet Potato Fries to Blueberry Milkshakes to Green Eggs and Ham, you'll find recipes that children and adults will love. Best of all, the book is jam-packed with up-to-date nutritional information and facts about childhood obesity. It's never been easier,or more important, to feed your children well!

Lovely pictures, but not practical for this family 2 out of 5 stars.
25 of 27 people found this review helpful.

I am disagreeing with most reviews, if you do not like goat cheese, don't buy this. If you have no access to buying wild mushrooms, don't buy this. If you don't like tuna, salmon or lamb, don't buy this. I was looking for a more practical appetizer book with common things I buy each week at the grocery, many recipes with goat cheese, caviar, salmon, tuna, and lamb just don't fit my lifestyle or my budget. If you like eggplant, oysters, lamb and swordfish recipes then go for it!

Delicious!! 5 out of 5 stars.

Great easy recipes, a must for the busy mom who wants to impress her guests with some tempting appetizers!!

Editorial Review:

The authors of the immensely popular Hot series put their taste for international flavors and visual flair on the fast track to quick, easy-to-prepare appetizers with dazzling results. Each of the 100 recipes in "Fast Appetizers", from spring rolls to pizza to caviar, can be made in a flash, most in under 15 minutes. Whether you're hosting a cocktail party or an intimate dinner, Carpenter and Sandison deliver maximum flavor in minimum time.

not your run of the mill cookbook 3 out of 5 stars.
22 of 23 people found this review helpful.

This is one of Alice Waters' early books, and it shows, as compared to the later ones. Many of the recipes are complicated, and involve ingredients that are not easy to come by, even in NYC. I read it more for amusement. The later books (Vegetables, Fruit, Cafe), are much more user friendly and result in great dishes. I wouldn't recommend this to someone new to her philosophy of cooking, or who doesn't have serious kitchen experience.

A Classic You Must Have 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

There's a special reason we go to the books of the great chefs. It's not to throw a meal together in 2 minutes, or to make sure we will find a dish we can cook with no trouble in two pans in our kitchens at home. It's to look inside an imagination and see what someone can achieve with ingredients and passion when it's what they do all day, every day, with devotion.

As Nigella Lawson said about another writer, "I often cook, if not directly from it, then inspired by it (which is more telling)". This is a truly inspiring work, one you will go back to again and again. From the buckwheat crepes with glaced fruit and eau de vie, to the amazing amazing fish soup, simple dishes with corn and over the top reworking of french classics, the judgement of flavours and textures is perfect. Ignore Water's fetish about perfect lettuce, read it, and just go to the kitchen. 10 stars out of five, the best of all the Waters books.

Editorial Review:

This timeless addition to the Chez Panisse paperback cookbook library assembles 120 of the restaurant's best menus, including galas, festivals, and special occasion meals that have become such gustatory celebrations. A full range of menus is featured, from picnics to informal suppers. Line drawings.

Editorial Review:

Long gone are the days when only “a meat and two veg” qualified as a real meal; today, says Sara Foster, “salads are meals, sandwiches and quesadillas qualify as respectable grown-up dinners (or breakfasts or lunches, for that matter), and eggs can be eaten any time of day.” In this new cookbook, Sara acts as a mentor to the rest of us, sharing her passion for practical, comfortable cooking at home with more than 100 recipes for everyday meals.

As the owner of two of the mid-Atlantic’s busiest gourmet markets, Sara shares her professional knowledge about ingredients and techniques, incorporating the changing trends in cooking, health, and entertaining. Formal is out; instead we want relaxed, versatile recipes that are full of flavor but don’t require precision cooking or fussy techniques. We want to approach cooking with a sense of comfort and ease, and Sara Foster’s Casual Cooking teaches us how: it is relaxed yet refined homey yet sophisticated, showcasing the kind of meals we all want to eat—and will actually cook, day in, day out.

In Sara Foster’s Casual Cooking, Sara will help you navigate both the kitchen and the market with greater ease, resulting in satisfying meals that won’t take all day to make. The recipes include the most popular dishes at Foster’s Market and her own personal favorites, and all feature the updated Southern flair that has made her one of the South’s best-known cooks.

From easy party platters to assemble for impromptu guests to ingenious ways of turning a bag of spinach, a package of sausages, or a ball of pizza dough into a fresh and fabulous dinner, here finally is a cookbook that reflects the way we really eat today.

I Haven't Read Them -- I Have USED Them 5 out of 5 stars.
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

For the past eight years, Carlean Johnson's Six Ingredients or Less cookbooks have maintained a premier position on my cook book shelf. I can say this categorically, I have never had one of these recipes go bad. They are simple, easy to use (I use them to teach young people how to cook), use simple-easy to obtain ingredients, and above all are delights to eat. No kitchen should be without them; whether it be a cook who is on the "haute cuisine" level or one that is on the "I burn water" level. I recommend them highly.

The Scavengers Guide to Haute Cuisine 1 out of 5 stars.
3 of 25 people found this review helpful.

Steven Rinella, big game hunter of sparrows and squirrels, doesn't know the first thing about the value of wildlife to human well being. Wild birds eat insects, including mosquitoes. Squirrels bury acorns and thus spread oak trees across the landscape, providing food for more wildlife. During the reign of Chairman Mao, the Chinese tried to eradicate small birds, believing they were pests. Instead, they discovered that they were critically important predators of crop pests. If we continue to disregard the value of wildlife, as Rinella does out of ignorance, we do so at our peril.
He is the real backyard pest and should be ignored, both for his advocacy of destroying wildlife and his claims to haute cuisine.

Editorial Review:

A hybrid of memoir, cookbook, and travelogue, and a love song to hunting and fishing and the American wild, The Scavenger’s Guide to Haute Cuisine is about one man’s quest to live off the land and recreate the recipes from Escoffier’s Le Guide Culinaire, the 1903 magnum opus.

Nature writer Steven Rinella embarks on a yearlong journey across America, trying to locate the bizarre, often esoteric ingredient of Le Guide Culinaire. His adventures take him fishing for stingrays on a Florida beach; skinning eels with an upstate New Yorker who keeps an emu as company; and hunting mountain goats on the snow-covered cliffs of Alaska’s Chugach Range.

Praised by reviewers for its lyrical prose and humor, The Scavenger’s Guide to Haute Cuisine is a narrative that opens up a deeper understanding of the things we eat and our place in the natural world.
