Simple easy directions, good for people in limited space 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

A simple, easy to use cook book. Ideal for people who have limited space. Especially a boat or RV.

I have used mine several years and recently bought one for my "non-cooking" daugher.

Regular ingredients & easy to do 5 out of 5 stars.

I'd throw out all of my other cookbooks and just keep the 6 Ingredients cookbooks, if I had to do so. I refer to them more than to any other cookbook. She makes it so easy to prepare "from scratch" when you have worked all day and are just too tired to want to cook. Great for those who, like me, don't want to spend lots of time cooking. I also really appreciate the fact that, usually, the ingredients are ones you already have around the house--I HATE recipes with long lists of ingredients and ones that are not common--you're almost guaranteed not to have what you need! I don't usually plan ahead, so I like to cook with what I have in my kitchen and not make special trips. If this is you, too, buy this book!

GREAT COOKBOOK... 5 out of 5 stars.

This cookbook actually has foods you can eat with ingredients you already have in the house AND for busy Moms like myself. I consider this a great cookbook. Its got an egg section, meat section, even a kids section plus a slow cook section. I recommend it.

I tried the kids section, popcorn balls, and that was easy. My daughter and my husband loved it!

Great cookbook 5 out of 5 stars.
26 of 27 people found this review helpful.

In "The Ultimate Cooking with 4 Ingredients" author Jean Coates treats the reader to a plethora of simple, yet tasty, recipes. This is a particularly great cookbook for those with little cooking experience or for someone who wants to put together a balanced, healthy, home cooked meal without a lot of fuss. The instructions for preparation of each dish could not be easier. If you are used to the books with three or four paragraphs of preparation instructions you will be pleasantly surprised to find that these recipes can all be completed with only three to four simple steps.

I tried a few recipes and found that among my favorites were Potatoes Supreme, Hawaiian Pork, and Cola Chicken. Based on the ingredients list the Cola Chicken sounded so unlikely to taste good that I just had to try it and it turned out great. I also liked the way that Coates broke down the main dishes into the categories of chicken, beef, pork, and seafood instead of lumping them all together under the "Main Dishes" category like most cookbooks do.

The recipes often take advantage of mixes like a box cake mix or stuffing mix in order to keep the ingredients list down to four. But for the new cook or one who does not have a lot of time or want a lot of fuss making dinner it meets all the important requirements - quick and easy to prepare, goof-proof, minimal cleanup, and tasty. This is a highly recommended read and especially so for the novice cook or the hurried family cook or the college bound student.

Editorial Review:

No time to cook? Fast and easy 4-ingredient recipes make family meals and entertaining a breeze. More than 800 easy recipes help you serve up delicious food every time - with just 4 ingredients in each recipe. Includes simple appetizers, main dishes, salads, unique desserts and much more. Great for tight budgets, too! Don't miss the Lemonade Chicken, Tropical Mango Salad, Chocolate Amaretto Pie, Sweet and Savory Pork Chops, Butterscotch Crunchies and more.

Editorial Review:

In this groundbreaking cookbook, Nina Simonds offers us more than 175 luscious recipes, along with practical tips for a sensible lifestyle, that demonstrate that health-giving foods not only provide pleasure but can make a huge difference in our lives.

With her emphasis on the tonic properties of a wide variety of foods, herbs, and spices, this book also brings us up to date on the latest scientific research. In every recipe–gathered from cultures around the world in which good eating is a way of life–Simonds gives us dishes that are both irresistible and have a positive effect on one’s well-being. For example:

-Cardamom, a key digestive, subtly seasons her Steamed Asparagus with Cardamom Butter.

-Cinnamon, which strengthens the heart and alleviates nervous tension, adds spice to her Fragrant Cinnamon Pork with Sweet Potatoes.

-Basil has long been used as a healing salve and in teas. So who wouldn’t feel rejuvenated by a delicious bowlful of Sun-Dried Tomato Soup with Fresh Basil?

-Peanuts, which fortify the immune system and lower cholesterol, provide a tasty, crunchy accent in Sichuan Kung Pao Chicken.

-Mint, which has many healing properties, from taming muscle spasms to dissolving gallstones, can be relished in Minty Snap Peas accompanying Pan-Roasted Salmon or in a Pineapple Salsa served with Jerk Pork Cutlets.

-And peaches give us vitamin C, beta carotene, and fiber. So enjoy them in a wonderful Gingery Peach-a-Berry Cobbler.

To help us understand what part these health-restoring foods can play in our lives, Simonds peppers Spices of Life with lively interviews with a variety of experts, including Dr. Jim Duke, who offers anti-aging advice from his Herbal Farmacy; Dr. Andrew Weil, who discusses his latest nutritional findings; and Dr. U. K. Krishna, who explains basic Ayurvedic practices for healthy living. And more.

With its delicious, easy-to-prepare recipes and concise health information, this delightful book opens up a whole new world of tastes for us to enjoy every day and to share with family and friends.

Exellent book for clueless cooks 5 out of 5 stars.
23 of 23 people found this review helpful.

I love this book! I'm in college, and although I consider myself to be an experienced cook, this book rocks! Peltosaari has included tips for food storage, using leftovers, shelf life, and cooking terms in addition to the many easy recipes. All of the recipes are economical, nutritious, and delicious. If you don't even know how to make scrambled eggs, or if you're on a tight budget (like me!) then this is the book for you!

Great starter cookbook! 5 out of 5 stars.

What a lifesaver to be able to pick up a book for my son going off to college that was exactly right for his needs. He had no idea about cooking terms, shelf life for foods, how to shop, clean up or what equipment to use. I especially liked the idea that there was a list of how to fix mistakes, which we are sure will happen! Hopefully he will read about how to avoid wasting leftovers. This book is perfect, geared for anyone with no previous cooking experience, and is great for anyone on a tight budget or those cooking for one. He liked the minute meals, since he has no patience to wait for food to cook, and would naturally go for frozen or junk food. With this book there is hope he will eat something healthy.

Editorial Review:

Over 150 easy, cheap, fast, nutritious recipes for students and other beginners. Equipment, cooking terms, imperial and metric measurements. Shopping & cleaning tips, safety rules, fixing mistakes. Perishables (shelf life, recipes), basics (eggs, beans, pasta, potatoes, rice), minute meals, midnight snacks, microwave miracles, soups, salads & dressings, crowd pleasers, meat, chicken, fish, vegetarian, baking (breads, muffins, cakes, cookies), sweet stuff, beverages, smoothies.

wealth of information, yummy recipes 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

As stay at home mom of two children ages 5 and 3 I need time. I haven't started with a group of other cooks yet, but I've benefited with saving time and offering my family something they usually like. This book is one I pull off the shelf regularly for ideas and information on how to make other recipes in greater quantities. I have made quite a few of the recipes in this book and they all have been whole family pleasers. Some are a bit rich for me, but my children and husband like them that way. I have adapted some of the recipes to be lower in fat. In fact, the information in the book is laid out so well that other recipes can easily be used and all can be adapted to make smaller amounts of meals.

Editorial Review:

Cooking Among Friends® is a meal planning and preparation technique that really works! Gather a group of friends, collaborate, plan a menu of entrées, invidually prepare a large quantity of a single entrée (or two), freeze it in meal-sized portions and then swap! Continue with a food quantity and exchange frequency that is ideal for the group. Cooking Among Friends® shows you how!

A good starting point 5 out of 5 stars.
24 of 24 people found this review helpful.

The key to this cookbook is correct expectations. As mentioned, you won't find a recipe in here for General Tso Chicken, etc. What you will get is a basic introduction to how to make authentic tasting dishes by seeing how various sauces are made, etc. This provided a great starting point for me to be able to improvise all kinds of dishes, soups, etc.

If you are looking for a cookbook that will walk you step by step through Moo Goo Gai Pan and Moo Shu Pork, you probably want to look elsewhere.

Editorial Review:

Mr. Mu-Tsun Lee shares his over twenty-year expertise as a teacher of culinary arts and famed restaurateur in Japan, Taiwan, and the United States. This invaluable collection of Chinese classics is adaptable to American cooking utensils and appliances. With 150 appetizing and easy dishes and 50 versatile sauces and dressings, this is a blessing to time-strapped consumers with discriminating tastes. The recipes are easily adaptable to ingredients commonly found in your refrigerator and your local supermarket. Familiar family favorites grace weekday meals while your own imaginative creations enliven weekend treats.

Fabulous book! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

In a market so saturated with RR-isms and products, it is delightful to find such a hilarious parody! This book is chock-full of great "recipes", ala RR. One of my favorites is the "Beer and Brat Floater". Just take some affordable beer, pour it into a beer mug, and toss in a bratwurst! What could be better?! Another "must try" recipe is the No Bake Chocolate Cake, which includes foam rubber and toothpicks as its chief ingredients. I love the photos of RR in bed with her griller just in case she wants a late night snack.

No matter how you feel about the "real" RR (love, hate, tolerate, RR who?), you will laugh out loud at this book.

Elizabeth Hilts is a genius!

Editorial Review:

Hey kids! If 30-minute meals are good, wouldn't 30-second meals be even better? You bet they would! And EVERY FREAKING! DAY WITH RACHELL RAY makes this dream a reality!

This 64-page, full-color parody of the super-caffeinated media phenomenon Rachael Ray doesn't merely mimic the tone of the megastar's monthly magazine, daily talk show, multiple Food Network shows and countless ad campaigns, it nails it!

Bestselling author Elizabeth Hilts captures Rachael's perky exuberance, her "casual" approach to cooking and her irrepressible and wholly unique Rayisms.
