Editorial Review:

It's easy to fall into high-fat, fast-food habits when we're busy, and who isn't busy? The American Heart Association has a solution: 200 recipes that are tasty, healthful, low-fat, and fast. The recipes--conveniently spiral-bound--take 20 minutes or less preparation time, and most take just a few minutes of additional cooking time. (Some require more cooking time, but you don't have to hover over them.) Don't skip breakfast when you can make Cinnamon-Bran Pancakes (total time: 11 to 14 minutes), Stuffed French Toast (16 to 18 minutes), or a Banana-Kiwi Breakfast Shake (5 minutes) in less time than it takes to pick up a muffin on your way to work. Your family or guests won't guess you whipped up dinner in a hurry when you make Pasta-Crusted Fish with Marinara Sauce (15 minutes), Sherried Seafood Sauté (15 minutes), or Skillet Chicken Thighs with Dried Berries (20 minutes). The book has an assortment of one-dish meals like Salmon and Brown Rice Bake, Black Bean Lasagna, and Chicken with Broccoli and Bulgur. There are also appetizers, vegetables, breads, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. All recipes include preparation time, cooking time, and nutritional information: calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat (total, saturated, polyunsaturated, monounsaturated), cholesterol, and sodium. Yummy photographs decorate the book. --Joan Price

Artificial Sweeteners 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Sorry.. but very disappointed In the use of Artificial Sweeteners in so many of the recipes.. especially the deserts.. In a healthier world we should be getting away from the chemicals.. It's only a matter of time till we find out what the latest man made sweetener is doing to our bodies.. I wish the author would have used another ingredient..

Great, Quick Low Carb 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I purchased this book at COSTCO for very cheap. I've been on the lowcarb lifestyle off and on.

The recipes are 15 minutes start to finish and taste great. I am considered a very good cook by friends and family and have been impressed with the wide range of flavors. Other reviews of "very hard to find ingredients" is just not true. This has become our go-to recipe book for the week when we come home from work.

Favorite recipes:

Easy Mexican Chicken
Microwaved Fish and Asparagus with Terragon Mustard
Sweet and Sour Pork (also we've made with chicken)
Balsamic Lamb Skillet (also made with Beef)
Chicken Skillet Roma
Chili Burgers
Asian Pork and Cabbage
Unstuffed Cababage

Get this book---it's great!

Editorial Review:

In this irresistible collection Rachael continues to work her 30-minute magic with nearly 100 awesomely delicious brand-new recipes. From pasta to pizzas, soups to sammies, and chicken, fish, and meat, you’ll find a 30-minute-meal to suit every appetite.

But what if you don’t have even 30 minutes? No worries, Rachael has you covered with her quickest-ever 15-minute meals. Why order pizza when you can have Provencal Tuna Melts, Italian Surf ‘n Turf Salad- even a fabulous paella- on the table in just 15 minutes? You’ll never reach for the take-out menus again when super speedy Pea and Parsley Soup with Canadian Bacon and Skillet Tamale Pie are the delicious alternatives.

And what about those days when you want to slow things down a bit? Rachael’s got the perfect recipes for those times, too. Her 60-minute meals like Paprika Chicken Stew with Potato Pierogies, Chicken, Corn and Tomatillo Lasagna, and Swordfish Rolls with Spaghetti Squash don’t require any more effort from the cook, but they tale advantage of a little extra time in the oven or simmering on the stove to develop those great, deep flavors we all crave on lazy days. Among these dishes are some of Rachael’s “Double Duty Dinners,” recipes that you cook once, serve twice, but look and taste so different that no one will be the wiser (such as Chicken in Creamy Mushroom Sauce with Chive Egg Noodles in which the base magically morphs into Tarragon-Tomato Chicken and Bread Soup another night).

You’ll also fine fun Rachael Ray signature meals like:

BLD (meals you can eat for breakfast, lunch, or dinner)
MYOTO (Make Your Own Take-Out Meals) that feature ethnic flavors but no mystery or fats
Date Night Dinners and Fancy Fake-Outs that are every bit as elegant as the fare from your favorite little bistro
The Kids Will Eat It meals (besides chicken nuggets) that will bring even the pickiest eaters to the table

This is Rachael’s most versatile book yet, the one that will help you get the very most out of every minute you spend in the kitchen- whether you’re rushing to the beat of the clock or taking advantage of a little extra time to stop and smell the veggies roasting. Either way you’ll be dishing up some of Rachael’s most appealing recipes ever- and all on your own schedule.

GREAT Cookbook! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I LOVE this cookbook!!!!! It was a Christmas gift and ever since we've been having great dinners nearly every night. I don't even want to go out anymore. This book contains easy to make meals in under 30 minutes (with the exception of the chapter on crockpot cooking). What I love about this one is that it plans the entire menu for you, and gives you steps to follow to prepare 2-3 recipes at once. Meals are usually a protein and a side, and sometimes include salads, breads, veggies, etc. And the best part? They're very light.

I've made probably 30-40% of the menus in this cookbook now, cooking them nearly every night. The only down side is the more expensive ingredients (sometimes) and quite frankly the time it takes to find and purchase all of the ingredients in the grocery store. I spend a lot more time in the produce aisle these days.

Two favorite chapters are the section of meals for two people, and the "20 ingredients" chapter, where you keep 20 ingredeints on hand to make each of the 20 recipes. Favorite menus include peppered beef tenderloin with orange-herbed asparagus and crusty french rolls, pan-seared chicken in proscuitto-fig sauce with roasted green beans, caesar-style green salad, and whole grain rolls, chicken piccata with garlic-basil pasta and steamed green beans, and seared chicken with avocado and tortilla chips con queso... yum!!!!!

Editorial Review:

In a world that makes ever-increasing demands on people's time, Superfast Suppers is indeed a lifesaver. Clever and always quick, Superfast Suppers will revolutionize your cooking with no loss of nutrition and no compromise in taste. Especially notable are the 20 recipes with less than 10 minutes of prep time, the 10 slow-cooker dinners and the 25 'Deadline Desserts' which require only 15 minutes from beginning to 'yum!' Finally, this book boasts the unique 'Have It Your Way' chapter that lets everyone create their own special meal from one basic item and a plethora of toppings. Any way you slice it, Superfast Suppers is a must-have for today's families on the go.

You're Never Too Old to Need Mom! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I am almost 50, and still use this book all the time for all kinds of nagging questions -- how DO I hard-boil an egg properly? A must for every child leaving hme and for every adult how ever had a mother!

Great for any age! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is meant to be a survival guide for living on your own for the first time, but I assure you that it is much, much more. This book is useful for people of any age, even if you've been paying the rent for more years than you'd like to admit.

Everything from the expected info on nutrition and cooking (including microwaving real meals), shopping tips, getting stains out of laundry and a how-to on car repair thrown in for good measure.

I don't know about you, but Mom sure never told me how to recognize the symptoms of STD's, but it's in here, along with millions of other cool and useful things.

Buy it!

I Love This Cookbook! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is by far the best crock pot cookbook on the market. I absolutely love cookbooks that are comprised of individual recipes from people across the country, as this one is. Each recipe includes the name of the person who submitted it and where they live. It is organized well and and you know the recipes have stood the test of time because real people with real families have used them and are now passing them on to us. I highly recommend this crock pot cookbook over any others. My mother-in-law was so impressed with it that she went and bought her own!

Editorial Review:

Who_s hungry? EVERYONE. Who has time to cook? NO ONE. Dig out the slow cooker. Add a second and a third if you wish. Fill one with main-dish fixins and the others with go-alongs. Do it in the morning or between work and after-school events. Come home to richly-flavored, ready-to-serve food. Slow cookers are having a comeback. With good reason. They are friends on a day of running errands. They allow easy entertaining with no last-minute preparation. And vegetarians won_t find a better way to work with dried beans. Slow cookers are gentle with the food budget less expensive ingredients flourish in their slow, moist heat. Fix-It and Forget-It offers the range of recipes slow cookers do well: Appetizers and Snacks, Soups and Stews, Main Dishes (with and without meat), Vegetables and Go-Alongs, Desserts and Beverages. better than expected 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

After reading the reviews here, I was cautious about getting the book. When it arrived, I picked out about 4 recipes and bought the ingrediants. Let me tell you, I have never been so excited about a cookbook!! The recipes turned out great and were very easy to make. It makes enough for my family of 6. Working the night shift makes it hard to fix dinner some times so to be able to put everything in the crockpot before I go to bed and have it ready when I get up is perfect!

Editorial Review:

  • New York Times best-selling author Sandra makes the slow cooker appliance even more convenient with her Semi-Homemade approach.
  • The book includes more than 120 sensational slow cooker recipes from perfect pastas and risottos to fabulous five-ingredient favorites.
  • Sandra offers quick tips and step-by-step instructions for slow cooking success, plus a bonus chapter of oven-baked recipes.
  • There's no pre-prep required. No browning, no dicing and no chopping. Just toss ingredients into the slow cooker and let them cook!

Editorial Review:

Mark Bittman, award-winning author of such fundamental books as Fish and Leafy Greens and food columnist for the New York Times ("The Minimalist"), has turned in what has to be the weightiest tome of the year. There are more than 900 pages in this sucker--over 1,500 recipes! This isn't just the big top of cookbooks: it's the entire three-ring circus. This isn't just how to cook everything: it's how to cook everything you have ever wanted to have in your mouth. And then some.

Bittman starts with Roasted Buttered Nuts and Real Buttered Popcorn, and moves right along, section by section, from the likes of Black Bean Soup (eight different ways), to Beet and Fennel Salad, to Mussels (Portuguese-style over Pasta), to Cream Scones--and he hasn't even reached seafood, poultry, meat, or vegetables yet, let alone desserts. There are 23 sections in this cookbook (!) that reflect directly on the how-to of cooking, be that equipment, technique, or recipe.

Every inch of the way the reader finds Bittman's calm, helpful, encouraging voice. "Anyone can cook," he says at the beginning, "and most everyone should." More than a few college kids are going to head off to their first apartments with Bittman's book under arm. More than a few marriages will benefit with this book on the shelf. And anyone who loves cooking and the sound of a great food voice is going to enjoy letting this book fall open where it may. No matter what the page, it's bound to be a tasty and rewarding experience. --Schuyler Ingle

I love my crockpot now 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I bought this cookbook through a book club and I am so glad I did. I have hundreds of cookbooks primarily focusing on low fat recipes. However, I am a very busy person (as most people are nowadays) and I don't have time to spend in a kitchen (not that I would want to) so most of the cookbooks I've bought in the past are sitting in my cupboards collecting dust...except this one. I started using it in March 2007 and if you can believe this, between using this cookbook and getting back into a moderate exercise routine, I have lost almost 12 lbs and I wasn't even trying to lose weight but you can't help doing so with this cookbook. The recipes are easy, fast, and very delicious. Combine all this with the nutritional facts provided at the end of each recipe and you can't go wrong. I have never been a fan of a crockpot but now I am. I've also highly recommended this cookbook to all my coworkers, friends, and family.
