Not a bad package at all, but this is not the original book (which I am still looking for). A selection of the good recipes from the original book, but without the information on scaling the recipes and such, that was in the book itself.

This book shows you how to cook all sorts of things in the microwave. There are recipes for everything from vegetables and main dishes to many desserts and even potpourri! Written by three women with degrees in Home Economics, they really experimented with their microwaves. I have found the recipes very fool proof. The Sweet Potato Casserole with Crunchy (pecans or walnuts) Top has become a holiday tradition. I have made their Chicken Cordon Bleu as well as many other chicken and beef dishes and they came out very good. There are recipes for breakfast dishes, appetizers, soups, and even candy. It is not a low fat cookbook so many of the recipes call for butter and/or cream but you can make substitutions.

This book had sat on my shelf unread literally for over a decade until I needed a quick method for a microwave roux. It will never be your number one cooking reference; there's plenty of things in here that just aren't worth the trouble, though in 1985 when it was published the microwave oven was still just newfangled enough that everyone was trying. But one day you will have a situation where you need something quick and easily cleaned up, or all your burners are full and you don't want to pull out a new appliance. In fact, you may never use this at all -- most people never actually cook in a microwave. But when your regular cookbooks fail you, and you aren't quite yet in need of How to Repair Food, you might find something to save your butt here.

This book is very informative and well written, with lot's of delicious recipes. It is also easy to understand. The only drawback is the size and weight of the book itself.
