This book adds a new dimension to the use of the microwave oven. No more is the microwave limited to re-heating, defrosting, or "cooking" those pre-package plasticine food products from your grocer's freezer. I haved used only a subset of the techniques presented and have been completely satisified. Even though the book is targeted toward Mexican food, the concepts only require a little imagination, as well as trial-and-error, to utilize these techniques in other dishes. Because of the abundance of the microwave oven in American households (and the lack of knowledge about what to do with them), I feel this book is an invaluable resource for the serious home cook.

Bought this while living in Phoenix. It's quick, easy, and has explanations even a gringo can understand and fix. I have had this recipe book for 15 years and am looking for copies for gifts. Just tonight I used it to find a quickie recipe for taco seasoning because I didn't have a store bought packet of seasoning. The family didn't know the difference. Salsa, Fideo, sauces. desserts-all quick and all easy! Wish she'd write another one!!

I've used Messipeis and the easy-to-read directions in my classroom. The students love everything from the title on (Great word work) You only need a microwave and the ingredients are common and to kids taste! Useful and simple safety tips, measurement guides, and the book can be whiped off in case of the ocational spill. A MUST HAVE IF YOU EVER DREAMED OF COOKING IN THE CLASSROOM! State tests do test for functional reading skills!! Teaching has never been so fun!

Messipes is a good way to start children off in the kitchen. This sandwich-shaped, plastic-coated "book" gives recipes for kid-friendly dishes like English Muffin Pizza, Stuffed Potato Boats, fruit salad, and a simple macaroni and cheese. Most cooking is done in the microwave oven. The first pages of this book explain safety rules for the kitchen. Recipes make one or two servings, so the amount of food handled is child-sized. Colorful pictures show the ingredients, equipment, and steps for making every recipe. The instructions are written to help children understand what to do; for example, raw vegetables are "cut into long strips" to go with a dip while onion for the dip is chopped into "tiny pieces." Be prepared, though, to explain how to grate cheese, core an apple, and scoop out half of a baked potato.

The Dept. of children's welfare banned this book. Barf city 1 out of 5 stars.

If you want punishment for your young one, might I suggest the "hotdog Jamboree" ; pg.21 or if you are really in a cruel mood, try "liver Pops - a Sunny afternoon Treat" pg.43. Conceivably the least pallatible conglomeration of white trash food on the literary homefront. 2 sporks down. Pass me a Piels Bubba, it's been a long book

This has to be the best microwave cookbook I've ever owned. It's full of tips and tricks for all types of cooking. And I haven't hit a recipe that hasn't been a success. Having lived with only a microwave, toaster oven and single burner for a few years, this cookbook enabled me to use a microwave oven in ways my friends thought were impossible. Too bad it's out of print. Perhaps the author can be persuaded to produce another run.
