Editorial Review:

How many miles does it take to braise a fish fillet? Should you use your exhaust manifold or your valve cover for a pork tenderloin? Were Jaguars really designed with veal scallopini in mind?
In the new revised and expanded Manifold Destiny, Chris Maynard and Bill Scheller, two experienced rally drivers--and cooks--answer these and any other questions you've got about cooking under the hood. After all, why drive to a diner when you can turn your Chevy into one, especially when you can make a better meal right on top of your engine? With a little bit of ingenuity--and a whole lot of aluminum foil--you can whip up dishes like Cutlass Cod Supreme, Cruise-Control Pork Tenderloin, Nifty NAFTA Nachos, Donner Pass Red Flannel Hash, and Fupped Duck Catera.
Witty, preposterous, and great highway fun, the more than forty recipes in this cult classic are road-tested and taste-bud-approved. It's a must for anyone hitting the road with an empty stomach and a full tank of gas.

food combining saved my life 5 out of 5 stars.

I started food combining to lose weight. Thanks to this book, I have not only lost the excess weight, but my energy level and my blood pressure and cholestrol levels have dropped dramatically, too. But , best of all, I AM NEVER HUNGRY.

I lost 30 pounds effortlessly and I'm healthier than ever. 5 out of 5 stars.

This book helped me to drop 30 pounds in less than 6 weeks. I feel alive again. I've never felt this good. Not only did I take the weight off, but I also lost my asthma and chronic fatigue. Thank you Marilyn Diamond.

Simple, healthy recipes that taste good 4 out of 5 stars.
25 of 25 people found this review helpful.

I like this cooking book and use it wuite often. It has several sections, and I especially like the one on salads and salad dressings and the one of fruit smoothies. The book can actually be used by people who have not read the Fit for Life books, too, as it contains a summary of the main info on food combining and fruit consumption; while Fit for Life fans will like it as it will bring nice new recipes in their kitchen, while still assuring them they are eating as healthy as possible.

The book contains several sections: fruit smoothies, juices and salads; vegetable salads and many dressings for them: sandwitches (yes, you can have a properly combined sandwicth, and once you had one, you won't want to go back to the old way!); soups; vegetable dishes; feast and buffest dishes.

The recipes are simple to realize even for people who don't have much experience in cooking, and they are realized with readily available items. This book will allow you to cook for your family and know they are eating properly without much effort on your side, and they'll like what you cook!

Particularly recommended for vegetarians! But anyone will like this book.

Editorial Review:

The essential companion volume to Fit for Life is one of Warner's most popular diet and health cookbooks. Readers learn how to prepare and combine foods into a variety of great-tasting and healthful vegetarian dishes. TP: Warner.

This Is A Tiny, Tiny Little Book 3 out of 5 stars.

So surprised to just unwrap my amazon.com box and find The Best 50 Salad Dressings book. With shipping it comes to almost ten bucks for this postcard-size book. While I am sure I will enjoy making all of the salad dressings, someone should make a note for potential buyers that this book is not a typical size paperback. It's very small.

Great for vinaigrette lovers (not so much for creamy dressing lovers) 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This little book is cute and easy to use. It has a few creamy recipes in the beginning, but most of the book is devoted to vinaigrettes. I was personally hoping for more creamy recipes, but this will still be a useful tool. I look forward to trying the Avocado Dressing, the Italian Buttermilk Dressing and the Creamy Curry Dressing.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this for people who love vinegar-based dressings.

Choose from a plethora of recipes for dressings, and salads with which to toss them.

New Updated & Expanded 2nd Edition.

Finally! A book for the novice...

Contrary to popular belief, Scotch is not just for old men sitting around stuffy country clubs...it’s the original luxury spirit and it’s now more popular than ever!

But for someone who wants to learn about Scotch, it can be a little intimidating - overwhelming even; all those unfamiliar terms, different brands - the novice has no idea where to get started.

Most books on the topic are written for those already familiar with Scotch and tend to concentrate on author ratings, distillery overviews, and tasting notes. They simply do not address the needs of someone new to Scotch.

That’s where The Instant Expert’s Guide to Single Malt Scotch comes in.

Readers will learn:

  • How to read a label.
  • How whisky is made, aged, and bottled.
  • The difference between blended scotch and single malts.
  • The difference between whisky & whiskey.
  • About the four primary whisky regions of Scotland, and why you shouldn't worry about them.
  • How to taste Scotch properly.
  • Most importantly, how to determine what you will like.

In the end, this book will equip readers with the fundamentals, enabling them to continue to explore the great taste of single malt Scotch whisky on their own.

With new-found knowledge, what once seemed like an overwhelming number of choices will suddenly become an infinite number of unique possibilities to experience and enjoy!

Not the best of it's kind 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I bought this cookbook, along with "Don't Panic..." and "Holly Cleggs Trim & Terrific Freezer-Friendly Meals". There were some good recipes here and the format is decent, but Holly Cleggs book suited me much better. Many recipes here are very similar to things I already make, so it didn't give me many new ideas. (Although the Roasted Vegetables recipe has become a new favorite side dish.) The serving suggestions included with each recipe was a nice idea, however, I had to laugh at some. For example, "Dessert: purchased ice cream sandwiches". Say what?! Glad I have a cookbook to suggest we buy ice cream sandwiches!

Good things to say about it? The pictures are nice. The food is child-friendly. Ingredients are normal, readily available. It's not an indispensible cookbook, but if you aren't too tight on money, it wouldn't hurt to have this one, too.

One last warning: this isn't much of a make-ahead cookbook. It's more of "quick and easy meals". There are few things in here that you could completely make and put in your freezer and later either take out and bake or take out and reheat. I'm not big on freezer meals, but if that is your goal or you do OAMC, this is not your cookbook.

Editorial Review:

Needs some work 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a cute idea with the 1950s kitschy theme, but it needs some fine tuning. The size is smaller than a photo album which is handy, but that doesn't allow for a lot of room to write recipes.

The photos and quotes are cute. There are sticky pages where you can paste photos or recipe cards. But again, this book is a scaled down version so an elaborate recipe won't fit on one side. The folders seem a little skimpy if you have a lot of recipes from magazines and newspapers, but for me (not a big cook) it works.

They could've left out the pasta section and separated the vegetables from the side dishes. I think there are too many recipes to combine them into one section. Overall, it's a cute original funky theme. But it lacks room for hardcore cooks.

Editorial Review:

As sassy as it is useful, What's Cooking? organizes all your recipes by category. With 96 pages including 80 lined recipe pages this organizer includes 8 folder/dividers, and 8 photo pages to store recipe cards and clipped recipes. Information pages include equivalents and substitutions, microwave tips, cooking terms, and more. Measures 9-3/8'' square, with 3-ring square-back binder.

PUTS ASIDE ANY STUFFY NOTION OF FRENCH WINE 5 out of 5 stars.

A great read and reference as to what is going on in French Wine today. Covers all the regions and introduces the reader to the regional personalities and the best producers. You gotta add this one to your wine library.

Know the Modern World of French Wine 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

You might buy this book because it's a beautiful coffee table book - the beautiful pictures and the layout...Or you might buy it because it's great for reference material.

If you love wine, simply buy it for that reason alone. It is very up-to-date, the author, no stranger to French wine, a true professional, uncovers the latest trends and troubles in the various wine regions of France. He talks with growers and vintners, producers and negociants - providing perspective from all angles.

Beyond reading the latest issue of Decanter or Wine Spectator, this is perhaps the most informative and concise manner of learning about the "now" of French wine. Like other Mitchell Beazley publications, the focus here is on the great presentation and the high level of scholarship/research/journalism. This book will nourish your curiosity.

Editorial Review:

Award-winning, groundbreaking, breathtakingly exhaustive, and authoritative, this guide to French wine covers all of the country’s fourteen wine regions, including full-color maps for each one—all with unrivalled cartographic detail. Producer listings are an important feature, with up-to-date research on terroir and the appellation contrôlée system and their effects on the wines of each region.
