Difficult, delicious recipes 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The recipes and serving suggestions in this book are delicious and gorgeous, and consequently sometimes very difficult to make. Some ingridients that are listed are either not available in the US or substitutes are not adequately displayed. The recipes can sometimes lack vital explanation for a beginner, and a recipe may reference a basic recipe (the appendix contains recipes for basic components of desserts), without listing the additional ingridients needed for the recipe. The difficulty ratings can be deceiving. Nonetheless, I give this book 5 stars because the end product after hours of trying, restarting and wasting lots of egg yolks, is always fantastic.

Editorial Review:

Caribbean sunshine, tropical breezes, the turquoise sea, you can't take them home with you, but you can enjoy the flavours of the Caribbean forever. One of the highlights of your island holiday is the food, the amazing variety of island specialties. The world lives in the Caribbean. Lured by the climate and the riches of the new world, Europeans, Africans, Chinese and Indian settlers made the Caribbean their home. Every culture brought their culinary masterpieces and adapted and refined them in this tropical paradise. Caribbean Cuisine and Vegetarian Cuisine, Caribbean Style, by Dr. Betty "K", have gained international recognition. Acclaimed by islanders and tourists, these traditional recipes retain the exotic flavours of the originals, but have been adapted to the busy lifestyle of the author and today's homemakers.

Caribbean Desserts is an exceptional collection of tropical treats. Succulent mango, refreshing lime, creamy coconut, tart/sweet papaya, spicy ginger, the flavours of Caribbean desserts range from light and exhilarating to rich and decadent. Sweet and Fruit Breads include Mango Nut Bread with Mango Sauce and Spicy Gingerbread with Vanilla Custard Sauce. Other desserts include Mango Cake, Lime Daiquiri Pie, Mango, Soursop and Papaw ice creams, Mango Mousse and Orange Charlotte, plus Gulab Jamoon, Rasmalai, Kheer and Peera. Tropical drinks, the perfect complement, round out these recipes Pina Colada, Rum Punch, Ginger Beer, Mauby and Mango Wine.;

Great Tastes! 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This is a fantastic cookbook. It gives not only great tastes but the feeling of Jamaica. For a great novel about Jamaica, look at Jamaica Girl. It's as delicious as a ripe mango.

Editorial Review:

A delightful Jamaican cookbook featuring 115, easy, home-style recipes to liven up everyday cooking. Some recipes are sweet, some are savory and all represent Nugent'ss most requested dishes over her 45 years of preparing and teaching Jamaican cuisine. A good read, the book is sprinkled with charming anecdotes about growing up in Jamaica, wise Jamaican proverbs, information about the origins of indigenous ingredients, and entertaining and menu suggestions.

Excellent and necessary book for those to like good food! 5 out of 5 stars.
32 of 33 people found this review helpful.

This book contains completely new, faster and easier recipes to make without loosing any of our unique taste of Puerto-rican cooking. This book, together with the author's original book, "Cocina Criolla" belong together. Cocina Criolla has most of the basic recipes for the food eaten here in Puerto Rico, while this book"Juntos en la Cocina" has others which are easier and faster to make. The seasonings used in this book are the best we've seen and eaten and we recommend these books over other cookbooks (Puerto-rican) that we've used. We completely recommend this book to all those who love good and tasty food which is unique to our puerto-rican cooking; however we also recommend it together with the author's original book "Cocina Criolla". These two books are in our kitchen as well as in the kitchens of all our children and are considered to be like our Bible, with an Old and a New Testament. Highly recommended for all who love to prepare and eat good food.
