I bought the book at a trade show, and the lady said, the recipe for "Upside Down Apple French Toast" would be a new Christmas tradition. Was she ever right!!!! It is so lucious, and painfully easy, that my family insists we have it for Christmas morning!! It's just not Christmas without it!! (And it's a secret Santa gift for mom because I can throw it together in minutes, the night before!!!) She's right,, this IS "required reading"!!!!

The Colorado Bed & Breakfast Cookbook is outstanding. It is two books in one, a travel guide to 85 B&B'S in the Colorado area, and a cookbook. The recipes are all tested by Carol Faino and she gives helpful hints in "Carol's Corner". Carol Faino & Doreen Hazledine are also publishing a Washington State Bed & Breakfast Cookbook, coming out in late March 1998. It to will feature 85 Bed & Breakfast in Washington State.

This cookbook contains recipes from different B&B's around the state of Colorado. The bonus of this cookbook is that there is also a short description of the bed and breakfast along with contact information should what you read strike your fancy. (Or better yet, what you cook.)

...The problem is that the book is a cold collection of recipes, without a single comment from either the author or any of the contributors -- i.e., no hint of whether or not the author ever tasted anything, much less tried preparing them, or what the contributors thought of them (or if the contributors ever tried them ... Some could have errors that have been carried forward since no one bothered trying the dish.
Even for recipes that were tried, were they contributed because they're delicious, or because they're cheap?)...

Enjoyed all the nice new recipes and the wine selections. Pictures of the Brandywine Valley attractions were well done; any reader would probably want to make the sightseeing trip immediately.

Wide selection of recipes. Easy to read and follow. Beautiful photos of the Brandywine Valley. Savor has become my primary cookbook, esp. for entertaining. I give it frequently as gifts since I live in the Brandywine Valley area. Everyone loves it.

Anna Pump grew up on a farm in Germany, near the Danish border, surrounded by a bounty of fresh vegetables, fruits, home-baked bread, and hand-churned butter. After moving to the U.S. in the 1980s, Pump established Loaves and Fishes, a catering and take-out shop in the seaside yet rural part of Long Island, New York, known as The Hamptons. She then opened a bed-and-breakfast called The Bridgehampton Inn in 1994.

Pump's cooking relies on excellent fresh ingredients in season, so her 175 recipes are grouped as Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. Grilled Chicken Salad, succulent from breasts marinated with soy, sesame oil, and white wine; Potato and Corn Salad with unexpected fresh herbs; and Spinach Salad with Sliced Peaches are typical Spring/Summer dishes Pump offers. Reflecting Scandinavian influences in her cooking, dessert might bring the luxury of fresh currants and raspberries transformed into Red Grits with Cream. (Once made with barley meal, hence its name, corn or potato starch is now used to thicken this ruby jewel of a dish.)

Fridays, year round, Pump bakes a huge ham glazed with marmalade, apple cider, and mustard. Guests enjoy slices of it with their eggs at breakfast and in sandwiches later in the day. You may prefer it for dinner, accompanied by Pump's cauliflower, mashed and roasted with garlic and olive oil. Complete the meal with a Macadamia Nut Tart, cranberries studding its pecan pie-rich filling. Sixteen color photos and short poems and quotes praising the good life punctuate this book with charming thoughts. --Dana Jacobi
