This is the most intelligent, comprehensive and useful guidebook to Philadelphia dining that I have ever seen. It is honest and on the money, and it has certainly saved me from dining disasters, and introduced me to some of the best dining in the city. Most importantly, it is laid out in a fashion that makes it super-easy to use.

$18 and Under is a guide to dining and entertainment in Philadelphia. It is an excellent reference guide to both local Philadelphian's as well as tourists. Being only 4"x6", it is easy to carry. The key to this book is that only places with an average entree price of $18 and Under are listed. It is the perfect guide for the everyday person to use. You will find over 225 places listed that range from the trend-setters to the traditional, from the local pubs to the gidden gems. the places you will read about have been visited by people who were born and who live in Philadelphia. Each restaurant is listed by the section of the city in which it resides, and then by style of food.

Real West Virginia Wild Food and Game Cooking 4 out of 5 stars.

Author Anna Lee Robe-Terry is a distant cousin of mine, who has written not just a book of recipes, but an evocation of the atmosphere of our northern West Virginia roots. Disabled by a chronic disease, she lost home, job and possessions until she moved onto the old Robe homestead in Marion County determined to survive. "If life gives you wild grapes, then make jelly" is her philosophy. She began investigating the wild plants that she had grown up with and educating herself in botany and the ways of the old settlers. Her recipes are wonderful just to read. I have tried the Snapping Turtle soup recipe myself and can recommend it as a definite change of pace from clam chowder. She also has a recipe for skunk (!) that resulted from a hilarious end to a hunting trip. I would recommend this book not only to people in the area, but those interested in its pioneer culture and folklore.

I thought this was going to contain more than just recipes, but that's all it was. There is a photo at the beginning of each chapter, but that's it as far as the memorabilia, so I'm a little disappointed since this doesn't live up to the title.
