One of my favorites! 5 out of 5 stars.

This is an awesome cookbook! If you are interested in adding fish to your diet in unique ways, this cookbook is a must-have! There are also tons of other recipes, including a whole chapter devoted to key limes, and the recipes are well written and easy to follow. I have eaten at Marker 88,home of one of the featured chefs in the book, and the recipe for Andre's Snapper Rangoon is to die for! I find the recipes very innovative and delicious!

The most comprehensive guide to the Florida Keys 5 out of 5 stars.

I found this to be the ultimate way to "eat" my way up and down the Florida Keys. Then to be able to take the flavors with me and prepare them at home is a real treat.

problem with key lime pie 4 out of 5 stars.

I used the recipe for " Manny's Key Lime Pie" p.189 All seemed to be going well - the key lime mixture tasted great. Problem was that the directions said to "beat the egg yolks and condensed milk until creamy". It did not say to cook it. I thought this was problematic. All those eggs yolks should have been cooked, not just beaten. I followed the book instructions and only cooked it when I had made the meringue and placed it on top. I cooked it for the required 5 minutes but it was still very liquidy. I have it in the freezer right now and am hoping that it works. Did you miss in the recipe ? Should it have been cooked instead of beaten ???

Editorial Review:

Hay Day is the farm stand that grew and grew. It started in well-heeled Westport, Connecticut, in 1978, just as everyone's interest in good food was picking up. Eventually, the founding Van Rensselaer family merged their Hay Day Markets with a chain of stores, Sutton Place Gourmet, which together serve customers from Washington, D.C., to New England.

Now, thanks to food writer Kim Rizk, you can make 250 of their simple, much-loved dishes at home. Start the day with Jam-Filled Corn Muffins, chill out with refreshing Cucumber Watermelon Cooler, comfort friends with healthy Mediterranean Turkey Loaf made with oats, and end an elegant meal with decadent Berries in Passion Fruit Cream, which requires the very best fruit, in season. Step-by-step instructions and an informal, relaxed style make this a delightful and enjoyable book to cook from. Punctuated with line drawings and chatty asides like advice on how to ripen pears and how to select good fontina cheese, ideas and inspiration are endless. The Hay Day Country Market Cookbook is crammed with tips for entertaining and suggests many fabulous full menus. The Fireside Apres Ski Menu, with Polenta Crostini, Mediterranean Bean Soup, and Gingered Pear Crispis is a meal that will delight and impress your guests.

With its emphasis on the freshest of ingredients and warm, country-inspired cooking, you'll revisit the Hay Day Country Market Cookbook time after time. --Dana Jacobi

I have enjoyed preparing many of the recipes. Most are very easy to follow and the end results very tasty. The complete menus at the back of the book provide guidance when planning a dinner party. The fact that 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the cookbook is donated to the comunity makes this a favorite cookbook.

I have well over 200 cookbooks and am always happy to find a special one to add to my collection. This is a WINNER! I just got it and have already tried several and they were all excellent. This is a cookbook that is easy to read, has 208 recipes and is also the kind to give as a gift because of it's beautiful cover. Anyone who loves to stay at B & B's will find the recipes delicious and unique and will definitely want to go to Cape May, NJ and stay at the Angel of The Sea. You'll definitely want to try the Dutch Apple French Toast, Peach Crisp, Coffee Muffins, Angel Lemon Squares, Rocky Road Squares, White Chocolate Almond Cheesecake, and the Hot Chipped Beef Spread. I truly can't say enough about this excellent cookbook. You will reach for this one time and time again as I know I will.

The second in Hippocrene's line of state cookbooks, Farms and Foods of the Garden State: A New Jersey Cookbook, is a comprehensive look at the incredibly diverse and bountiful state of New Jersey.

Brian Yarvin captures the essence of the Garden State by profiling some of its most interesting farms, including a vineyard, a buffalo ranch, and a trout hatchery. More than 100 simple, easy-to-follow recipes feature products from the profiled farms, making the direct but often overlooked connection between farmers and cooks. Recipes such as Chicken Vindaloo, Italian-Style Stewed Peppers, and Portuguese Kale soup also reflect New Jersey's ethnic diversity.

Editorial Review:

The Colonial Williamsburg Tavern Cookbook

Every year, millions of people visit Colonial Williamsburg's re-creation of eighteenth-century America for the ambience, the education, and the unparalleled experience of glimpsing our prerevolutionary past.

Williamsburg's fascinating form of time travel encompasses not only the architecture and the artisans, but all the details of our rich cultural heritage, including the food. And The Colonial Williamsburg Tavern Cookbook presents that food, our nation's culinary heritage: from stews and slaws and soups to puddings and pies and pot pies--nearly 200 recipes in all. Focusing on Williamsburg's Southern roots and coastal proximity, the dishes owe their inspiration to the distant past, but their preparations have been tailored for contemporary palates--no need to run out and get some suet in which to cook your mutton over the open hearth.

Here are perennial standbys such as Brunswick Stew, Standing Rib Roast with Yorkshire Pudding, Virginia Ham with Brandied Peaches, and Cream of Peanut Soup, as well as Spoon Bread, Lemon Chess Pie, and Mulled Apple Cider. There are also unexpected twists on age-old favorites, such as Oyster Po' Boys with Tarragon Mayonnaise, Oven-Braised Gingered Pot Roast, and Carrot Pudding Spiced with Cardamom.

Just as the historic town of Colonial Williamsburg is a singular adventure in understanding our nation's history, so too this cookbook is a unique appreciation of our culinary history. In April 1772, George Washington, writing about one of the taverns in Williamsburg, noted, "Dined at Mrs. Campbells and went to the Play--then to Mrs. Campbells again" --twice in a single week. The hearty fare that George found so enticing is enjoying a profound renaissance, and The Colonial Williamsburg Tavern Cookbook will enable home cooks to relive the great American culinary tradition--the ultimate in comfort food.

outstanding French cooking 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 15 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book solely for the photographs, which I hoped would inspire me in plating food. However, I discovered that, beautiful as the food is, the recipes are the best part of this book. They are all elegant, delicious, contemporary but classically-based French dishes that are moderately complex but not beyond the ability of a skilled home cook. In addition, Chef Perrier's preface, in which he describes his background and cooking philosophy, is nearly as good as Andre Soltner's (in "The Lutece Cookbook"). If you enjoy cooking French food, I enthusiastically recommend this book. By the way...his mussel juice is a great alternative to fish stock; give it a try.

It has been my pleasure to dine at Le Bec-Fin. And the book is no less a pleasure, even if you don't want to cook. The recipes are easy to follow and the "asides" are very helpful.

M. Perrier knows his audience.

The best cookbook ... 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

My mother has been using this cookbook since it was published in the early '80s. The recipes go from quick and easy family pleasers to elegant evening fair. Some of the recipes are still weekly meals in not only my mom's house, but my own too!! We were so excited to find it here! Now it's not only graces my mother and my cookbook libraries, but we also give it as shower and wedding presents! Everyone should own this cookbook! It is the best ever!

Trust me: Buy this cookbook 5 out of 5 stars.

This cookbook is fool proof and red hot. Buy multiple copies and give it to your friends. I am a Southern food aficianado, but I enthusiastically admit that those western NY Yankees sure can cook.

What a great cookbook! I grew up in Rochester & remember these recipes above all others. Do yourself a favor & try the carrot cake.

Decent Cookbook 4 out of 5 stars.

I think this cookbook provides some good basic recipes. A friend of mine recommended it to me, and I had higher hopes than what the book provides. But, I do plan to use some of the recipes. I like the concept of the book - providing tested recipes from real home cooks. I may try another Junior League edition as well.
