A touch of home cooking 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Every recipe I've made from this book has turned out wonderfully! The format of the book is easy to follow, and there is a wide variety of recipes to choose from in each category. They've even included game recipes such as Moose Supreme and Teriyaki Venison for those cooks who hunt. Each recipe also lists where it came from, with a handy picture of each contributing cookbook cataloged in the back of the book. It's really nice to have a reminder of home while living so far from my family. Thanks for the gift, Patt!

Editorial Review:

From maple syrup springs to wild berry summers, pumpkin-squash falls to steamy soup winters, the bounty and beauty of the Michigan seasons are enjoyed from both sides of the kitchen window. Sixty-two of The Great Lake State's leading cookbooks have contributed their most popular recipes to create this remarkable collection.

Having the second largest variety of agricultural products of any state in the nation, Michigan just naturally cooks up an abundance of good recipes—and some creative ones, too! Deep-Dish Cherry Pie, Ship-to-Shore Shrimp, Growling Tummy Cookies, Spartichokes, Big Bear's Deep Woods Chili and Applesauce Bread Baked in a Jar are just a sampling of the 400 or so recipes included within these pages.

Best of the Best from Michigan is one of thirty volumes in Quail Ridge Press' acclaimed Best of the Best State Cookbook Series—continuing the tradition of Preserving America's Food Heritage.

Editorial Review:

This cookbook contains recipes from the past two centuries of Mackinac Island women. Recipes are rich in history, dating back to the voyager, logging, and fishing days in the Straits of Mackinac. Selected recipes are from English soldiers who were stationed at Fort Mackinac during its earliest history, with some modern-day additions.

Homesick for Cincinnati cuisine 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

After seeing my brother's copy of this wonderful cookbook, I just had to order one for myself. Living in Minnesota now, I can't buy things such as Cincinnati Chili and Goetta, but now I will be able to make a taste of home myself. Flipping through the pages actually brought a tear to my eye because this collection is much more than authentic recipes --- it's a trip down memory lane. Thanks for the memories!

Back home in Cincinnati 5 out of 5 stars.

This is a wonderful combination of recipes (both current and historical) and Cincinnati drawings and history. I grew up in Cincinnati in the 50's and 60's. This book brings back so many memories and yet provides lots of good cooking. You will truly enjoy this cookbook/travel guide--

Editorial Review:

Every page speaks of the book's authenticity, containing historical anecdotes, celebrity comments, collectible line drawings of the city. For Cincinnations-at-heart living elsewhere, for visitors who enjoyed the city's hospitality, for all genuine Cincinnations, what better way to remember the Queen City than through her friendly and surprisingly imaginative kitchens.

Editorial Review:

"License to Cook Wisconsin Style," in the popular recipe-card file size stocking-stuffer format, is filled with recipes and notes about the best of Wisconsin. This cookbook strives to make use of the fresh dairy products and home-grown vegetables plentifully available in the Badger State. The dairyland specialities included in this book are terrific! Start your meal with a delicious appetizer of Cheese Pretzels or Vegetables in Wisconsin Beer Batter. Warm up on those cold winter days with Cream of Zucchini and Cucumber Soup served with an Apple Chicken Salad Sandwich. Impress your dinner guests with a meal of Blackened Mississippi River Catfish over a Wild Rice Casserole. Top off any dinner with Leona's Strawberry Shortcake - just a few of the options this book offers. "License to Cook Wisconsin Style" also includes information on the state history and a section titled "Exploring Wisconsin," a valuable guide for anyone visiting the state - or natives wanting to learn more about their home state. State parks and public preserves, sporting on the Great Lakes, local dining and much more information is available in this little book. A perfect memento of Wisconsin to take home and enjoy!

A Mile Higher Quality! 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a cookbook that lives up to the reputation of the Flat Irons of the Front Range in Colorado that loom over the multi faceted "mini-tropolis" of Boulder, Colorado. If you love to cook, or love Colorado, or love libraries, this is a cookbook that belongs in your kitchen, in your collection, and to give as the perfect gift to anyone with wanderlust for mountains, enjoy exciting comfort food, or fantasize about being the next Emeril!

Some of the recipes that we whole heartedly endorse from the book are: 1. Shrimp with Coconut (Udand Kelapa), 2. Coleslaw Dressing, 3. Crispy Waffles, 4. Vegetables Al Forno, 5. California Bouillabaisse.

There are more recipes we have tried and enjoyed as well. The book is a bounty. Like Colorado itself, the book represents a colorful array of cultures, tastes, nutritional choices, ideas, and menus for everyday and special occasions.

The additional benefit to the University of Colorado Norlin Library is not to be overlooked. Norlin is an outstanding library that has a history rich with offering students, faculity, and the community at large a resource that is world class.

Add this book to your shopping cart today and take the time to visit Colorado and stop by Norlin Library at the University of Colorado Main Campus! You will have helped them to support tomorrow's world leaders with the BEST resources!

Editorial Review:

Here is an imaginative collection of 662 recipes that have proven successful at all altitudes! In a step-by-step format, the Colorado Cookbook covers everything from treasured family dishes to exciting foreign fare. Presenting nutritional analysis, cooking and preparation times, and 18 full-color photos of Colorado's beauty, this one-of-a-kind cookbook is a winner for all culinary skills and lifestyles.

Great Book for Authentic Greek Cooking 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Ok, I usually don't write reviews but this book deserves it and not just because I am from Detroit. I love Greektown and all these recipes are wonderful and I can bring the taste of Greektown to my home and bake whenever I feel like it. I've made lots of Baklava but this is the best tasting Baklave recipe (page 147) I've ever made. If you like Roast Stuffed Chicken, you've got 2 great recipes in here. Artchokes??? in here too, and great. Leg of Lamb, you got about 20 lamb recipes in here and you have a glossery and food conversions, kitchen hints, learn all about honey. Look, this is probably the best cookbook on Greek Cuisine. Enjoy!

Small book with big taste! 4 out of 5 stars.

If you're looking for wonderful color photos of the food and lengthly verbage on the background and food history, this isn't the book of Greek cooking for you. But if you want fantastic tasting Greek food (as we're spoilt here in Motown with Greektown) this book is it. The finest lamb, pork and fish dishes with Greek touch. My favorites are the pastitsio, lamb stew with green beans. Opaa!

Editorial Review:

Authentic Greek recipes plus six free two-for-one dinner at great Greektown restaurants in Detroit.
