Steamboat Seasons: A Medley of Recipes Celebrating the Flavors of Steamboat Springs with Strings in the Mountains Music Festival This has become my favorite cookbook. Easy and unusual recipes - every one I've prepared is delicious! I love the way it is divided into the seasons of the year, with fascinating vignettes, beautiful pictures, as well as restaurant recipes from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This book has become one of my favorite gifts to give, and is always appreciated!

Amazing Cookbook 5 out of 5 stars.

This cookbook is fabulous! I received it as a gift for my birthday last year and love cooking out of it. I can barely cook, but this cookbook is so easy to use!!! I highly recommend this book to anyone, but it is a great gift for college students, family, and friends!

Editorial Review:

Music, gourmet cuisine, and rocky mountain photography blend together in Steamboat Seasons, a medley of recipes composed by musicians, local celebrated chefs and residents. With anecdotal sidebars, altitude alerts, and culinary counsel, readers are transported to beautiful Northwest Colorado where mountains soar, music sings, and the food is divine. A 2005 National Winner of the Tabasco Community Cookbook Award.

All Hit No Miss 5 out of 5 stars.

We received this cookbook as a wedding gift in 1999 and have turned to it again and again ever since. We've used it to plan dozens of meals for our regular supper club, and despite our best intentions, have yet to work our way through every recipe. (Some favorites simply demand to be revisited over and over again.) Still, without exception, everything we've tried has been simple to prepare, delicious, and well-received.

We have given this book as a gift ourselves, more than once.

The Real Deal 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Friends, this is a fine book. I have five grills and a couple dozen barbecue books at home and this book's at the top of the pile. If you're looking for something slick, written by a "celebrity" lightweight with a ghost writer, then buy Bobby Flay. If you want an authoritative guide to grilling written by an engaging companion, this is it.

Although I have to agree that this is an inexpensively published book, the content is extensive and very strong. Kelly's discussion of technique is first rate and his essays on grilling culture are delightful. Better yet - the recipes are delicious. This book deserves a wide audience and a place on every serious griller's shelf.

Editorial Review:

Denis Kelly celebrates the unique grilling traditions of the West from cowboy campfires to California beach fire, and including Mexican, Asian and Italian grilling recipes. Grilling is different in the West according to cookbook author and food authority Denis Kelly. With these 125 recipes for the grill from Alaska to Baja, and all points in between, he charts the multicultural grilling scene that includes Mexican/Latino marinades and salsas; Pacific Northwest alder smoked salmon; and Southern California spiny lobster on the coals of a beach fire. Kelly brings a cupboard full of spice rubs, flavor brines, and other tantalizing preparations to the grilling of seafood, poultry, meats, and vegetables.

A Taste of Alaska 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

This cookbook is not only full of wonderful recipes and facts, it is also extremely entertaining. One feels as if they have been welcomed into the colorful Alaskan community by opening this book, as well as learning the uses and history of herbs and the best way to cook fish, among other things. A wonderful addition to any collection!

Almost too much fun 5 out of 5 stars.

The original yet practical recipes and wonderfully weird illustrations make this cookbook unique. Even those of us in the lower 48 are looking at fish in a whole new way. Randy Bayliss brings his life's experience in Alaska, his oddball humor, and his abundant culinary skills into the kitchen for us to savor.

The only problem is that you might get so interested in the reading that you forget you were planning to cook dinner. No biggie: LIFE'S A FISH is well worth the time spent chuckling.

Editorial Review:

"Life's a Fish and Then You Fry" takes a romp through the culinary curiosities of coastal Alaska. With snappy cooking tips from Randy Bayliss, and the weird and wonderful art of Ray Troll, this is not your mother's cookbook.
