Excellent source of black-owned and operated eateries. 5 out of 5 stars.

"Satisfy Your Soul" introduces the reader to places that are not familiar to the American public at large, mainly African-Americans. Ms. Labat goes across the state researching African-American restaurant establishments, some being in business for over 50 years and others for less than that time. This guide doesn't have any fast food chains like McDonald's and Burger King, which seems to have taken over the black community causing escalating health problems. "Satisfy Your Soul" is a guide to finding eateries in the black community in the United States.

Most savory burgers I've laid eyes on, and sank teeth into. 5 out of 5 stars.

If you're looking to spruce up a hum-drum summer picnic at the park, or lake, or where ever it might be, the burger recipes in this book can't lose.

For me, pictures are very important in a cook book, and this one is loaded with hi resolution color photos. It gives you a clear visual understanding of how the burger should look in addition to just the recipe.

I would reccomend this book to any burger connoisseur as a must for the beef eater's recipe library.

Editorial Review:

A delectable burger cookbook emphasizes the many alternatives that burgers present as a meal, including tips on how to grill, broil, bake, fry, and barbecue the best burgers, as well as recipes for those vegetarian friends of yours. 15,000 first printing.

Editorial Review:

Hoping to woo a fickle Gemini or a larger-than-life Leo? The Astrology Cookbook offers tempting menus geared to the tastes of each sign, with clear, easy-to-follow recipes. Charmingly written astrology insights accompany lighthearted and delicious recipe ideas.

Bleeding Heart Cake

This is the happy ending for dark-and-dirty Scorpios-a deep, rich dessert with a gushy center of hot raspberries and molten dark chocolate. Serve it warm with extra crushed raspberries. Use your favorite bittersweet or semisweet chocolate for the cake-the darker, the better.

pint fresh raspberries
1 T sugar
1 T Chambord, Cassis or other berry liqueur (optional)
2 T unsweetened cocoa powder
cup sugar
3 oz. dark (not unsweetened) chocolate, chopped
4 T ( stick) unsalted butter
2 large egg yolks
1 large egg
1 T flour
Powdered sugar

Combine then set aside raspberries, 1 T sugar, and liqueur. Preheat oven to 350 F. Butter two -cup ramekins. In a small bowl, combine cocoa and cup sugar. In a heavy saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate and butter together, stirring frequently until mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and whisk in cocoa mixture. Whisk in egg yolks, then whole egg. Sprinkle in flour and stir gently to blend. Half fill ramekins with batter. Drop a spoonful of berries into the center of each ramekin, then cover with remaining batter. Bake cakes uncovered until edges are set but center is still shiny. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out still gooey, about 20-22 minutes. Run a butter knife around edges of each cake to loosen; unmold onto plates. Sift a little powdered sugar over each cake and surround with remaining raspberries.
