Outstanding community cookbook 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This all volunteer effort benefiting the Roswell Symphony is an outstanding book to be savored and enjoyed for years to come. The recipes are wonderful examples of Southwestern cuisine at its best, both gourmet and everyday fare. The art work is provocative and unique to the Southwest, featuring some of todays finest working Southwestern artists. The UFO section (Ungourmet and Unusual Food Offerings) is done with tongue in cheek. Recipes for "Twilight Zone Pinto Bean Fudge", "Crash Site Chicken Chowder" and "The Great Cover Up Barbeque Sauce" are not only delicious but fun and amusing. Dion Crosby, former Executive Director of the UFO Museum wrote the forward for this section presenting data on the "1947 Roswell Incident".

An abundance of bean, grain and rice recipes (try the Black Bean Torta), inventive ways with fresh vegetables and pastas with a southwestern twist as well as different and unusual meat recipes including game and ostrich are all wonderful and original.

In my opinion, this is one of the best community cookbooks to be published in a long time; one everyone can enjoy, cook from, and just read for pleasure.

Editorial Review:

320 pages, Hard bound featuring 12 pieces of art by recognized Southwest artists. 14 charming line drawings, along with anecdotal information pertaining to them.

Well presented work on America's uniqucipes from thee contribution to world of food; the chili pepper.

Cooking with chilis means a little more work for the cook, but Coyote Joe brings it all together. I liked the whole loin of pork roast (bone in) the best so far. Looking forward to cooking more receipes from this fine book.

Wish the publisher could have sprung for more color pictures to go with the recipes.

A wonderful Mixture of Fine Texas Cuisine 5 out of 5 stars.
7 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This cookbook is the finest book I've come across with down to earth Texas Cuisine. That I remember from my early childhood.

PECOS BILL WOULD BE PROUD!

Editorial Review:

From Lubbock to Laredo, Paris to El Paso, the Red River to the Rio Grande, ninety-nine of the leading cookbooks from the Lone Star State have contributed their most popular recipes to create this remarkable collection.

This second helping of Texas-style cuisine has as much variety and diversity as the countryside. It's spicy, it's lively, it's tasty, it's hearty, it's creative, it's Mexican, it's Southwestern...it's what we like to call Tex-Mex Plus! It's a taste as big as the state itself.

Delectable dishes such as Grilled Texas Tequila Tuna, Cowboy Cornbread, Braggin'-Rights Brisket, White Lightning Chili, and Sam Houston's Golden Spice Cake are just a sampling of the 500 or so recipes included within these pages.

Best of the Best from Texas II is the follow-up to Best of the Best from Texas, which remains one of the most popular titles in Quail Ridge Press' acclaimed Best of the Best State Cookbook Series.

Editorial Review:

Tells the surprisingly elaborate story of the chilli in New Mexico. We meet the people who depend on the chilli for their livelihood, from the growers and harvesters who have pledged to keep their family heritage alive, to the scientists whose on-going goal is to produce a richer colour or easier-to-peel skin. Through vivid photographs and flowing text, we explore the life of a chilli plant, finally understand why it hurts when we bite into one, and of course, debate the age-old questions: red or green?

Editorial Review:

Combine wild ingredients and a disregard for the ordinary with a little chemistry in the kitchen, and you get the "Cooking Fearlessly" philosophy -- a no-holds-barred approach to cooking that is pure Texas and a helluva good time. At Hudson's on the Bend restaurant outside of Austin, chefs Jeff Blank and Jay Moore preach and practice an adventurous cuisine as big and robust as the Lone Star State. Fish and game reign supreme, both on the grill, in the saute pan, and out of the iron skillet, and they're finished with sauces, salsas, and glazes that'll electrify your palate and change your worldview. With Jeff and Jay at the helm, you'll sit down to daring dishes like Toasted Pinon-Coriander-Crusted Goat Cheese on Garden Greens; Rattlesnake Cakes in a Pistachio Nut Crust; and Smoked Rainbow Trout with Nopalitos, Smoked Bacon, and Apple Jack Sauce. So stick around -- the feast is only just getting started.

Yes, it has great recipes. But it also has wonderful information on Route 66 itself. I purchased this book at a restaurant giftshop on Route 66 in Gallop, NM. I read it cover to cover, as I would a novel. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys cooking, Route 66, or just reading about either!

A Route 66 Traveler 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is the best source for information on restaurants along Route 66 today. It also, includes many, many historical eating places along America's most famous highway. Some are already gone but memories remain. The book is filled with pictures, stories, 1st person memories and over 200 recipes from restaurants , greasy spoons, diners, and one of a kind eateries all the way from Chicago to New York. It offers a varied and intriguing selection of snacks and beverages, breads, soups and salads, main dishes, vegetables and sides, sauces and spreads, desserts, and more. A special feature of this cookbook is a chapter on Dutch-oven cooking, which covers all the basics for cooking outdoors with live coals, including seventeen mouth-watering recipes. In addition, you'll find dozens of the lovely color photographs that have long made Texas Highways such a feast for the eyes, along with tips on cooking techniques and sources for ingredients and stories about some of the folks who created the recipes. 4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Recipes can (and often are) timeless culinary messages of family meal-time bonding as well as community-oriented celebatory traditions. From Generation To Generation is a perfect example of this. From Hot Artichoke Dip; Brandied Cranberries; and Honey Ritz Chicken; to Apricot Pound Cake; Ice Cream Strudel; and Chicken Soup with Matzo Balls, From Generation To Generation offers up recipes that would grace any table and satisfy any appetite!

Excellent Cookbook 5 out of 5 stars.

Southerners just know how to cook! Within each community in the South, there are signature dishes specific to individuals and cherished by family and friends. In the newly released cookbook, FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION, the authors have gathered the signature recipes from members of Temple Emanu-El, in Birmingham, Alabama. Recipes range from "Grandma's Chicken Soup" to "Smoked Salmon and Dill Quesadillas" and all of the traditional Holiday and Passover dishes. The desserts are "to die for", including a cookie aptly named, "To Die For Cookies", "Molten Chocolate Cake", and "Grandma Bresler Brownies". Many of the recipes are named in honor of the Mother, Grandmother or Aunt, whose name was synonymous with the dish. These are the recipes of families, the recipes of sharing, the recipes of remembrance, and the recipes made with love. As a collector of "local cookbooks" from across the country, I found this hardback cookbook to be well researched and beautifully designed. I also found the recipes to be exceptional. Highly recommended!
