I think it's great 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I received the book in the mail the other day. The book was bigger than I expected but that's cool. I found myself reading most of the introduction which is rare. The only thing I regret about this book is that there were not enough pictures. I found the recipes to be simple and interesting enough to want to try them. I have'n read anything else by this author but I can say I like this one and am excited about trying the recipes.

Editorial Review:

The world is changing, and along with it, so must our eating habits. Author and restaurateur Jesse Ziff Cool has compiled over 30 years of knowledge about organic, local, and sustainable food into one magnificent cookbook, including indespensible elements of her earlier cookbook, Your Organic Kitchen, which is now out of print. With 150 enticing recipes, Simply Organic encourages home cooks to embrace organics as a lifestyle rather than a fad. Cool organizes her chapters seasonally to ensure that the freshest, ripest ingredients enhance the flavors of dishes like Filet Mignon with mashed Potatoes and Leek Sauce in early spring to Pumpkin Raisin Bread Pudding in autumn. Inspiring profiles on farmers and producers reveal how these individuals are working to create a sustainable future every day.

Editorial Review:

Grilling is the most basic method of cooking there is. It dates back to the time of cavemen -- food plus fire equals good. But when it comes to healthy food from the grill, evolution has been slow, producing lots of nutritionally sound but incredibly bland recipes.

Until now. Bobby Flay's Grilling for Life is, first and foremost, about getting the biggest, boldest flavor possible from food and fire while making healthy choices all the way. Imagine a lifetime of Espresso Rubbed BBQ Ribs with Mustard-Vinegar Basting Sauce; Bricked Rosemary Chicken with Lemon; Chinese Chicken Salad with Red Chile-Peanut Dressing; Grilled Beef Filet with Arugula and Parmesan; Grilled Salmon with Lemon, Dill, and Caper Vinaigrette; and Garlic-Red Chile-Thyme-Marinated Shrimp.

For food that is good for you and full of his signature big style and big flavor, Bobby Flay will teach you how to use herbs, spices, heart-healthy oils, citrus zests and juices, honey, and vinegars in place of sugary commercial sauces and marinades. He'll show you how to enhance flavor by toasting nuts, seeds, and spices on the grill; roasting garlic in a covered grill to add to vinaigrettes and marinades; and grilling slices of lemon, lime, and grapefruit to serve on the side.

Bobby believes that we all need a full and balanced diet to be happy and healthy, so the book has everything you need to keep grilling for life: veggies chock-full of fiber; delicious complex carbohydrates (the right carbs) that not only fight heart disease but break down slowly, leaving you feeling fuller longer; fish rich in omega-3 oils; and, of course, the full range of proteins.

To sharpen your skills by the fire, Bobby Flay's Grilling for Life includes the sections "Equipment" (a very short list); "Fahrenheit 101," a temperature chart that helps you navigate rare, medium, and well-done; "Meals in Minutes," offering suggestions for the time-challenged; and "Party Foods," great party menus for everything from a cocktail party to an Italian feast.

Decent. 4 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I like this cookbook. It is not quite as restrictive as some other candida diets, so that should be kept in mind for those searching for a way to conquer candida. Also, it is a cookbook, not a health book, so it does not go into great depth about candida, though it does offer some useful information. I would not make this my primary reference book on candida. I like the book for its simple, healthy whole foods recipes, though.

A Helpful Cookbook 4 out of 5 stars.

Years ago, on the advice of a holistic doctor, I went on a yeast-free, sugar-free diet for 6 weeks. I successfully eliminated excess candida from my body and my health improved vastly. Unfortunately, in those days the only cookbook available was Dr. William Crook's The Yeast Connection Cookbook, which, while essential, was difficult to follow. This time around, I looked for a cookbook that was more up-to-date, varied, and easy to use. I found it in Candida Albican Yeast-Free Cookbook. Its Rainbow Food Plan is not only easier to follow, but it makes a pretty, well balanced meal as well. I especially liked the Oat-Bran Sweet Potato Muffins, zucchini soup (most of their soups are easy to make), Fish in Butter-Ginger Sauce, and Beef Rutabaga Stew (made without the rutabaga, and it was fine). Many of the recipes are for 2 servings only because one is not supposed to have leftovers since it tends to encourage mold growth (those sensitive to yeast also tend to be sensitive to molds). I went ahead and doubled the recipes since I was making it for my daughter (who was also on the diet) and husband (who wasn't). Everyone seemed to agree that the recipes were tasty and satisfying.
Oh, by the way, I lost 8 lbs. in 6 weeks, and feel great. And I still plan to make the muffins, some of the soups and the dips.

Editorial Review:

This is the complete, authoritative guide that shows how nutrition can fight the epidemic of yeast- and fungus-related diseases and disorders including asthma, bronchitis, depression, fatigue, and memory loss. Fully updated, this second edition includes dozens of new recipes utilizing 12 foods that contain the antiseptic enzymes researchers have discovered will eradicate yeast and fungus.

The American cookbook of the future! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I began taking the vegetarian diet in 1970 after 22 years of the meat diet. I've been on all the health and taste adventures of this fun and benevolent cuisine and I grow ever more grateful as I grow older that I had the privilege and blessing of taking the natural diet of Mankind. "Vegetarian Meat and Potatoes" is the first cookbook I've found where every recipe is a tasty, and healthful success. And every recipe is familiar, like the non-vegetarian "comfort foods" of my youth, only better -time has proven those foods were an approximation of the vegetarian version, the real food. Robin has taken American Cuisine, which includes the cuisine of our European Heritage, and converted it to the enlightened diet that everyone in the future of Sustainable Living and Earth Stewardship will embrace and enjoy in the Age of Love. Food is the basis of the body and the mind, and affects our spiritual awareness, how we feel, our physical strength, how we think, and what we can envision. Meat-eaters, get this cookbook and prove these vegetarian benefits by firsthand experience! Vegetarians, get this cookbook and your meat-eating brothers and sisters will enjoy its recipes as much as you and it will ease their transition to right diet, good health and the spiritual blessings of benign, benevolent living as Stewards of the Earth. You have done a great service, Robin Robertson, thank you! (PS, I wish a hardcopy version were available)

Editorial Review:

This book will change the way people think about vegetarian food, a cuisine not usually associated with indulgence. Robin Robertson has developed 275 recipes for mouthwatering, soul-satisfying dishes that feed the hunger without the meat.

Wonderful, easy blended recipes! 5 out of 5 stars.
34 of 36 people found this review helpful.

This is the best source of blended juice recipes I've found yet, easy to use and make. Of course the author is famous for curing all types of diseases. I have been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and have been drinking blended juices since I was discharged from a weeks hospital stay. At my 6 week check-up the doctor said I was doing very, very well with a tone of amazement in his voice. He, nor any gastrointerologis, doesn't believe diet has anything to do with this disease, but it does and I will cure it and they will ask me how when they perform a colonoscopy next and I will share my treatment with them. Perhaps if more do this then more doctors will realize the benefits of raw/living eating and start recommending this instead of perscription drugs that do more harm to other vital organs than good! I don't care to live the rest of my life on medications, they just don't taste as good as blended juices or lovely vegetables!

Editorial Review:

Blending is the practice of liquefying whole foods to make nutritious mixtures that won't create stress on the digestive system. This book gives instructions on blending, equipment needed, best foods to blend, and nutrient values. Over 100 recipes include fruit smoothies, soups, sauces, and desserts.

Editorial Review:

Millions of children across the country have food sensitivities or allergies, and the number is on the rise. And most of these children donÆt get to eat cookies, for fear of the reaction they might have from the wheat, or the peanuts. Imagine the feeling a young child must have as they stand there watching their friends munch on cookies just out of MomÆs oven, while they have to make do with yet another carrot stickà.

Leslie Hammond knows that left-out feeling all too well. As a child she suffered from severe food allergies and would watch year after year as, when the birthday song had ended and sheÆd blown out the candles, her fancy party cake was whisked away and served to her friends, while she ate a dry rice cake. Now the mother of allergic children herself, Leslie vowed to spare her own children that trauma. She had developed over 100 recipes that will appeal to a kidÆs tastes. Unlike other food-allergy cookbooks already on the market, her recipes hardly ever call for the kinds of ingredients that would gross out any kid -- like tofu.

The bookÆs recipes take into account all of the most common food sensitivities like wheat and gluten, peanuts, or dairy. Each recipe can be modified to fit the dietary needs to the child.

ItÆs divided into three sections -- snacks, main dishes, and treats. Leslie and co-author Lynne Rominger also provide information about how to find what you need in a regular grocery store, instead of requiring a separate trip to the natural foods store. She writes from the perspective of an ordinary working mom, and doesnÆt design eating regimes that would take all day in the kitchen to satisfy.

With the recipes in this book, even the most sensitive child will get a cookie too.
