This is a great book full of clever, easy party ideas. Every detail is covered, from invitation design to seating arrangements to games and entertainment ideas. The recipes are simple yet sophisticated. Can't wait to use it!

The history of Chicago's Berghoff Restaurant spanned three generations and 107 years. It was one of America's oldest family-owned restaurants. To commemorate such a rich culinary history, Carlyn Berghoff and her mother, Jan Berghoff, collected 150 of the restaurant's most popular recipes, including classics such as Creamed Spinach, Berghoff Rye Bread, and Wiener Schnitzel. I bought the first copy as a gift. I have not purchased a new cookbook for myself in years, as I have dozens and dozens. I did not think there was anything new under the sun for me in the world of cookbooks - WRONG!
I have enjoyed the Macrina bakery since it opened, and Leslie's cookbook faithfully includes all the best of her breads, sweets, and savories.
The recipes are soooooooooo straightforward, simple, yet are unique combinations of everyday ingredients. So, I purchased two more - yep, one for me and one more gift.

I really am enjoying this book. I've only had it about a month and have found many recipes that I want to try. It has beautiful pictures throughout the book which is always a plus with me. I like seeing what the final product will look like with a recipe. Gooseberry really did a nice job with this book.

I absolutly love this book... the pictures are AMAZING, the recipes are easy and inspirational, even the little hints, story lines and ideas scattered throughout the book offer a true "down home" feeling - making you feel like your sitting across the table looking into the eyes of an old friend and relishing all her untold secrets. I love this book. Great recipes. Remember you can always substitute if a recipe contains something you just hate, but I suggest you try it the way it was written and see before making changes. You might just find that you like it.

This book is a companion to "Staying Healthy with the Seasons". It has some great recipes for people interested in eating healthy. Some ingredients, like Miso, may not be readily available but can be found in the Oriental section of many larger food stores or in Asian markets.
