isn't it just precious! 2 out of 5 stars.

According to the inside back flap, one of the authors works for an advertising agency. That makes sense, because this book looks and reads like an ad. It keeps telling you how sweet and darling everything is, until you (or I, anyway) want to be sick. Lots of annoying photos of children. Not enough photos to show you which foods go with which recipes; you have to guess from the larger photos which still don't indicate which of the microscopic things on the table are the foods in which recipes. The quality of the recipes is inconsistent; they seem to use different words for the same ingredients from one recipe to the next, and some ingredients and procedures are given "Victorian" names and never explained. Other recipes consist of "ask your local baker to make this for you, or look in some other cookbook." Not satisfactory. This is definitely a guide for *children's* parties, with suggestions for menus and activities for children. I suppose you could translate the ideas to parties for adults, if you can get past the breathless sentimentality of the prose, which is all about making things oh-so-special for the little ones. Why do I sound so annoyed by all this? I don't have anything against children or their parties. What bothers me is the emptiness of the prose and the cutesiness of the design, combined with the lack of really useful photos, captioning, recipe treatments, and historical background that would have given this book some substance.

Editorial Review:

Manhattan's tiny Good Enough to Eat restaurant is a local treasure. Featuring delicious breakfast fare, it's become the better-come-early stop of choice for fabulous omelets, pancakes, blintzes, waffles, and more. The Good Enough to Eat Breakfast Book, by the restaurant's chef-owner, Carrie Levin, offers over 150 of the spot's best recipes for its famed American dishes. Those of us who wish we could eat breakfast three times a day, as well as anyone hankering for the likes of a Vermont Cheddar-Apple Omelet, Sour Cream Coffee Cake with Crumb Topping, and Lemon Poppy Seed Waffles, will be delighted.

In chapters that cover the full range of breakfast specialties--from eggs (Levin supplies 20 recipes for these alone) to waffles, French toast, quick and yeast breads, doughnuts, and more--Levin presents easy, approachable formulas. Also included are tips and techniques (her beating method ensures creamy, golden scrambled eggs), serving ideas, and recipes for condiments like the house's beloved strawberry butter. Included also are chapters on salads and sides like hashed brown potatoes, spoonbread, and broccoli slaw, as well as brunch menus and beverage recipes like those for Pink Cherry Lemonade and Coconut Grapefruit Smoothie. It's hard to imagine a better compilation of start-the-day recipes, or one that's easier to put to use. --Arthur Boehm

Simple Recipes Practical Advice 5 out of 5 stars.

I just got this book and ended up reading it cover to cover which I typically don't do for a cookbook! It just has so many good sounding, healthy looking, easy prep recipes for my family. She uses whole wheat flour and trys to cut down on white sugar but does not use ingredients that are hard to find.
My three little boys loved the honey mustard chicken and it was so easy that my husband who doesn't venture beyond making pb&j or cereal made it. Today I am having the leftovers with sprouts and hummus in pita. I think this is a good book for busy people interested in eating healthier not just at lunch but all the time. There are good ideas on how to recycling the odd amounts of leftover veggies and rice or pasta from dinner into great lunches.

Editorial Review:

This is the cookbook for working people looking for a lunchtime alternative to the snack machine or the fast food down the street. These are interesting and satisfying recipes for good lunches that promote afternoon energy and won't put on unwanted pounds. More than a hundred great choices for healthy lunches in today's fast-paced work environment.

Donna Rathmell German Never Fails to Deliver! 5 out of 5 stars.
46 of 46 people found this review helpful.

I recently got a waffle iron, but the recipe included with the appliance was disappointing to say the least. I borrowed this book from the library because I have been very pleased with German's bread machine books and thought I would test some of the recipes to see if the book was worth adding to my collection. I shouldn't have worried! I could have bought it outright and saved myself a little time! We have tried the Sweet Butter Waffles (they are as heavenly as they sound) and the Peanut Butter Waffles (also very yummy and popular with the kids as well). In addition to the fabulous recipes, German also gives detailed information on waffle making in general (how much batter to use, how to tell when the waffle is done, etc.) and how to adapt recipes if you want to make pancakes instead. She even gives you "permission" to just mix everything together at once if you don't want to take the time to separate the egg (and I can tell you from personal experience, the results are just as delicious!) If you love waffles, or if you've always wanted to make them but were too chicken to try, this is the book for you!

Great book with great ideas. Try the ricotta pancakes. I really like the "night before" preparation ideas- get the work over with the night before and have more fun in the morning!

Editorial Review:

Caring oozes from Jesse Ziff Cool's pen and pans in dishes such as My Mom's Nurturing Soft Cooked Eggs and Old-Fashioned Bread and Butter Pudding, and seductive flavors are evident in elegantly earthy creations such as Smoked Whitefish, Red Onion, and Caper Frittata with Caviar-Chive Sour Cream or Herb-Lemon Zest Popovers, and half a dozen mouth-watering fruit butters. Many of the recipes will work for brunch and light suppers as well as for breakfast, both in and out of bed. As she suggests, think of this food for sharing and for when you have a moment to pamper yourself.

My Favorite Tea Party Resource! I love this book! 5 out of 5 stars.
14 of 14 people found this review helpful.

This is a beautiful book. Beautifully photographed, it begins with a sturdy history of tea. It quickly covers everything you need to know from basic definitions to perfect brewing guides. Then to the good stuff! The menus and recipes are mouth-watering and make you want to put the kettle on immediately. I love the personal stories Delores Snyder includes about where the recipe came from, where she was when she first sampled the confection, or which chef traded the recipe for one of hers. At first I assumed she was tea enthusiast with some bright ideas, then I turned to the back flap. This is a lady who knows her stuff! She opened The Gourmet Cookery School in Dallas in 1976, directed a food and wine tour to France for Neiman Marcus and is a founding member of the James Beard society. I can't say enough good things about it. It's exactly the themed tea resource I was looking for.

My favorite tea time book ! 5 out of 5 stars.

I received the book from Amazon yesterday and was immediately captivated by the cover and decided to spend my evening to read it through.
Boy, this wonderful book describes the history of tea, how tea was introduced to other countries, personal stories from Dolores Snyder and many themed tea parties with lovely photographs and mouth watering menus. This is what I'm looking for in a tea book, and I've found it !

A Special Gift for Tea Lovers 5 out of 5 stars.
39 of 39 people found this review helpful.

For many people the drinking of tea has become both a tradition and a ceremony. This book is written for these "tea people," whether they are just beginning a tradition of tea drinking or whether they've enjoyed tea for years. The author shares many thoughts and ideas for setting aside a special time each day for enjoying tea. She offers suggestions for special tea celebrations throughout the year and includes meditations for each celebration. She also covers basic information on the history of tea and gives a number of simple recipes for dishes to serve at tea time. However, this is not a recipe book. Its writing primarily feeds the minds, souls, and hearts of tea lovers. Finally, the photo montages in the book are beautiful.

Editorial Review:

Menus, recipes, and inspired suggestions for relaxing and celebrating common life experiences over a cup of tea specially selected to fit the occasion. Celebrations include a private moment of early morning tea, a large group gathering to celebrate a graduation, and an airport tea send-off for family members.
