A Proper Tea 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

A Proper Tea records the ceremony of English afternoon tea with delicious recipes and enchnting watercolors. There are teas for many occasions - for the drawing room, the nursery and the farmhouse kitchen, for a children's party, a garden party and a tea dance, and many more.

A menu is given for each tea, including in all over 50 recipes. These are taken from traditional cottage and country house teas; some are drawn from colonial British cuisine and some are maodern variations. The food is shown served on fine examples of authentic china, from Crown Derby and Coalport to Clarice Cliff, and the text describes the history and etiquette attached to each form of this unique repast.

This captivating book, best savoured with a cup of tea in hand, revives the flavours and customs of a civilized, fast-vanishing world.

the official handbook for all species of night owl 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

It's funny to realize that there were really no cookbooks for this "meal" that everyone enjoys. So I got this book, and there was everything from dishes to serve the kids' friends at slumber parties to great recipes for making those too expensive power bars that are perfect for breakfast. I particularly like using this book's recipes for my cocktail parties (I first saw it reviewed in Playboy of all places, because they loved the sexy dishes for two that are featured in the book), since the whole idea behind this guide is simple, appealing, small treats that you can cook up without a lot of fuss. It emphasized improvization. Stocking a few key items (even some new ones that are very versatile). And having fun with this quirky, miniature meal. And the writing is just as fun-loving. Very witty, and the perfect gift for college kids, newlyweds, or anyone looking to expand their repertoire of casual, satisfying bites.

Editorial Review:

An irresistable collection of scrumptious treats that every fridge-raider, insomniac, and night owl will crave.

Midnight Snacks is a witty, charmingly illustrated guide to satisfying the night-time munchies. From late night to dawn's early light, readers will be able to crunch, sip, and nosh their way through a tempting variety of satisfying fare appropriate to the hour. Hot and Swee Pumpkin Seed Brittle, Choco-Late Night Martinis, Parmesan Wafers, and dozens of other quick and easy delicacies will helf the sleepless through all-nighters, from tax season to final exams. Whether waiting up for "Your Daughter to Return Home from Her First Date with a Boy Who Just Got His Driver's License" or, more pleasurably, if "It's 12:45 a.m. and You're Watching Late-Night Movies in Bed," Midnight Snacks will be a comforting companion and source of inspired edibles in the wee hours.

The best appetizer book EVER 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have a lot of appetizer books and most are a collection of the time-consuming, the wierd, and the boring. Not this one! Most are fairly simple and all are imaginative and delicious. Rose's restaurant was something I looked forward to on every visit to Portland and this gives me the opportunity to relive those delicious meals.

If only you could eat like this everyday 5 out of 5 stars.
26 of 28 people found this review helpful.

I first checked this book out of the library and then I bought it. The recipes are fabulous, and I have tried more than half. The ingredients can be difficult to find. At times, I have resorted to the internet to find some obscure ingredients, but I have not been disappointed with a single dish yet. They are really one-of-a-kind five star creations. Im making the Jade Rice recipe again tonight for company.

Breakfast and brunch lovers, look no further! 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Having been a huge fan of the author for years, I couldn't wait to jump into this book. The recipes are consistently delicious and impressive. Her cinnamon rolls and bread are simply unparalleled! If you love to entertain in the morning or simply want incredibly tasty breakfast/brunch recipes you must read this book. I must also say that her writing style is so enjoyable...readable, witty and unpretentious. The book is full of little anecdotes about life in Mendocino and running a restaurant. Check it Out!!

Recipes in this book help you recall Mendocino moments 5 out of 5 stars.

Written with wit and wisdom, MORNING FOOD helps cooks of all skill levels recreate some of the wonderful tastes of Margaret Fox's charming Mendocino restaurant, Cafe Beaujolais. The restaurant is one of the many wonderful reasons people from all over Northern California--and the world--brave slow and twisty roads that hug the cliffs and hillsides overlooking the Pacific Ocean north of San Francisco.

The food detailed in Margaret Fox's book is both simple and complex. Freshness is the keynote here, but creating with what you have available is important, too.

If you enjoy reading cookbooks for pleasure or simply want a "how-to" list of recipes, you will be pleased with MORNING FOOD.
