As a home cook, things were simple and fulfilling.

I opted to purchase this book to see what makes a 3 star Michelin service. I was pleasantly surprised that Gordon Ramsay had the same (relatively) approach. Simple, fantastic food. This book opened my eyes to making simple dishes into what he has made fantastic food.

I do have this warning: THIS IS NOT FOR THE NOVICE COOK.

However, for the conditioned chef/cook, this has really openened my eyes, nose, and tongue for the intricacies that make a Michelin 3 star chef. Be prepared to prep chicken, veal, fish, stock the night before, however you will not only understand why sous chefs report at 7am the day of service, but you will benefit from the taste that all of that effort takes.

AGAIN NOT FOR THE NEW COOK.

There are only a few instances where a genious will let us glance into his notebook, and this is it. So for you cook's who want to expand your repetoire, GET THIS BOOK! Even if you don't like the recipes, you'll undoubtedly get ideas to make your home cooking miles from what it is now.

5 Stars on Amazon, a definite 3 stars for Michelin.

I was a little disappointed with this years Christmas book. The format had changed and there weren't as many simple crafts as before. I saw some crocheted dishcloths on one of the pages and searched for the instructions only to find out it was just a picture, no instructions.

The recipe section looks good and I have already made one of the recipes and it turned out great.

I don't know, just not up to the usual Gooseberry Patch standard.

LOVE this cookbook!
I have made many of the dips,for my Bunco group--and I ALWAYS get a rave review. The pasta dishes have gotten equally good reviews from my family too! It is so terrific, that I ordered several copies to give as Christmas gifts this year.

I am a big fan of Rachael Ray, and this book didn't disappoint me! Rachael's recipes are easy to follow. A good recipe book for entertaining. This book contains a nice variety of recipes for various different types of parties, from cocktail parties to dinner parties. Most recipes are easy to prepare, and don't take an excessive amount of time to make, which is nice. Good book for the beginning cook, as well as the experienced chef.

Unique is an understatement. What other book full of carefully selected, international recipes includes a no-holds-barred "dossier of perfidy" for the 10 countries from where they originate and a bibliography richer than many doctoral theses? A cookbook with "Beer Butt Chicken" AND Zhen Qie Zi? Powerful and insightful critiques of Pakistani AND Israeli policies?

In her analyst-world, the author is well known for being direct and honest; someone once called her unvarnished, but that's far too simplistic. Read the book and you'll see she's also incredibly passionate about important things, creative in her approach to understanding and explaining them, sometimes pornographic, amazingly well-informed, often skeptical, and always brings along her 800lb vocabulary.

Everyone who reads this will learn something. Perhaps it will be about food and politics or just some new words for the NYT crossword or your GRE. Maybe you'll be inspired to know more about some of these places. I certainly am. Regardless, you won't read another book like this, I promise. Yes, I'm an "insider", but that doesn't make me wrong.
Hate the policies, like the people, love the food.
