This is Celebrate Autumn, my favorite book in the Celebrate series. This book has a ton a good stuff such as the cook-out(bon-fire) chapter and octoberfest and much much more. I love all the little helpfull hints on the pages, just like in the gooseberry patch catalog. Autumn is my favorite season and this cookbook certainly helps make it even better.

Another great book by Gooseberry Patch 5 out of 5 stars.

Every cookbook by these ladies is just fun to read. There are hints and stories and quotes and recipes. The recipes are easy to read and always turn out great. They require commong ingredients that are not difficult to find at any grocery store.

This is a fun book well worth the money.
Enjoy.

Reviewed by Debra Gaynor for Reader Views (7/06)

Julia Pitkin, Karen Grant and George Grant, combined their talents to create this one of a kind cookbook. There are four divisions in this book, one representing each season. Each season is divided into special occasions; each occasion has appropriate table graces and menus, with recipes for each menu. It is the best of many cultures and their many holidays the authors remind us of what the term "fine dining" truly means.

Currently I'm assisting my future daughter-in-law in planning her wedding reception. This book has been extremely helpful. The Cucumber Mint Butter Sandwiches will definitely be on the menu, as will several other recipes.

Several of the recipes took me down memory lane. The Old Fashioned Lemonade reminded me of summers at my grandmother's. She'd gather the whole family together for a reunion. There would always be homemade banana ice cream and lemonade made with real lemons. The Roast Chicken with rosemary, thyme, oregano and other spices brought back the memories of dinners with a favorite aunt. I can still recall the smell of roasting chicken greeting me when entering her home.

We live in a hurry up world, where we look for the fastest way of completing everything and anything. Rarely do we realize that we've lost much. We no longer have the taste of real lemons; instead we open a can, measure out powder and add water. Rarely do we take time to make our own bread, it's easier to open a can or a bag. But the feel of kneading bread relieves stress and homemade bread always tastes better.

The menus and recipes in this book are good. But this book is so much more. This book is about elegant dining. I picture white table linens and silver candleholders. I picture families sitting down together to enjoy the meal. I send many thanks to the authors for creating this great book.

Editorial Review:

"Bless This Food" is a beautiful hardcover book that celebrates the seasons with menus and recipes specific to that season's bounty. From Goose Gravy and Mandarin Tossed Salad to Banana Pound Cake and Sausage Pastries, "Bless This Food" defines the essence of food, hearth and home.

Editorial Review:

With more than 80 projects and nearly 80 recipes, The Spirit of Christmas: Creative Holiday Ideas overflows with ideas for bringing the excitement of the season into your home. Organized by style, the decorating section of this lavishly illustrated volume offers a nice choice of varied looks for wreaths, garlands, ornaments, mantelpiece toppers, and more. "Noble Estate," for instance, evokes the genteel splendor of a grand country home; "Dreamy White Christmas" focuses on snowy and silvery shades; and "Reindeer Games" fills the room with charming renditions of Santa's herd.

The gift chapter includes a lovely decoupaged clock and etched goblets. The extensive food section features a Yuletide feast, breakfast with Santa, a progressive dinner, a cookie swap, and many other delectable recipes. Directions are good, although their placement at book's end, far from the finished photographs, means frequent flipping back and forth. Most projects are relatively easy, and all relevant patterns are included. Whatever your style or skill level, you'll find Christmas inspiration aplenty here. --Amy Handy

This one was okay, but I was not too impressed because it was a 2003 edition. Some good recipes included and that helped.

Editorial Review:

The two hundred delectable recipes herein are just the appetizer: Rarely has a cookbook so thoroughly addressed a subject in such charming detail. Joan Reardon has uncovered delicious and creative recipes and elusive fact and helpful hint. These tidbits make Oysters much more than a cookbook, but a true cooking companion to be savored cover-to-cover. And with more than seventy-five quotes by literary lions from Shakespeare to Thurber--as well as gourmands such as Waverly Root and Julia Child--it's even something of a Quotable Oyster; and with a color-identification section, it's also a valuable field guide.

The recipes concentrate on traditional American cuisine, but also include adventurous side trips to the Caribbean, Europe, and Asia:

* Appetizers-beyond nine sauces for the half shell, such classics as Rockefeller and Casino, as well as canapes and finger foods

* Soups-a classic bisque, four chowders, and twenty others *salads and sides-from an intriguing Nicoise update or a traditional mousse to five ways to pair oysters with potatoes

* Breads and pastries-for breakfast, lunch, and light dinners, three dozen sandwiches, pancakes, crepes, breads, and pastries

* Entres-croquettes and fritters, stir-fries and sautes; but also dozens of dishes with oyster highlights.

This is the only book solely dedicated to the popular and delicious oyster. It will delight every oyster lover.

I'm surprised no one else has reviewed this book 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

especially in light of the overshelming popularity of other British "cookery" writers like Nigella, Jamie, Nigel - all of whom only need to be identified by their first names. Anyone who likes them should immediately become familiar with Delia Smith. She might not be as glamerous or as much "fun" to read, but she is definitely as much fun to cook with, and her food is delicious, her writing is clear, her recipes are well-written and very easy to follow guaranteeing excellent results. This book is a good place to start getting to know Delia!

One of the best! Original recipies and packed with flavor. 5 out of 5 stars.

This is one of the best cook books I own. There are so many flavorful, interesting recipies using healthy ingredients in unique ways. Everything I have made has been a hit.

It's Wonderful! 5 out of 5 stars.

Every recipe we have tried so far has been outstanding. Special kudos to the chef for the recipe for Buttery Yorkshire Pudding. Previously we had little success with Yorkshire pudding or popovers in our high Colorado altitude (6800 feet). This recipe was a genuine success, when baked in a heavy bundt pan. The entire book brings back fond memories of our many visits to Williamsburg, when we lived on the East Coast. It's not just for holiday time!!

Bought this for a gift..... 4 out of 5 stars.

The book was so entertaining and have tried a couple of the recipes already and they are great. Haven't seen "Big John" in over 20 years, but thought the book would be a great present for a friend, Bob Stout (not knowing that Mark had sent Bob the website and he'd already ordered his own copy). Just like having John in the room, reading the anecdotes.

Absolutely a great book! 5 out of 5 stars.

I got this in time for Halloween and fall and have made many of the recipes in here. And they have all been big hits!

There is a whole section for apple recipes, breakfast, dinner, thanksgiving and Halloween. Its organized in a great way so you can find what you need with lots of advice and tips.

The BEST BEST BEST recipe in this entire book is the Apple Brie Bread Braid. I have made this 3 times in the past two months and I keep getting requests for it again. It is the yummiest recipe I have made from one of the books yet. And its not hard either!

You wont be dissapointed in this book if your a GP fan.
