The description does not do this book justice. 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is one of the most practical guides to sustainable, delicious, healthy eating I have found.

(Disclaimer: I know Lou Bendrick, but we rarely agree on anything and I am hyper-critical, so she will be shocked if she sees this review)

This book contains really USEFUL, and some times humorous, information and good recipe ideas, too. Ok, I will try the beet sandwich really soon.

Enjoy what you eat 5 out of 5 stars.

Lou Bendrick understands the locavore-persona and doles it out in down to earth sections in Eat Where You Live. This book not only made me hungry (for some good, healthy food) but also got my noggin's gears turning. Eat Where You Live, is more than helpful with its lighthearted and funny text which explains that there is more to the frozen food isle at the supermarket and actually there is more to food than supermarkets in general!
Most Americans have lost the food-land connection. Bendrick provides the insight of her experience in gathering what food she can as close to home as possible, depending on the seasons and the landscape.
I read the book over a few days but will likely use it as a reference for certain sections again and again. There are tons of web sites listed throughout for further exploration as well as recipes and little interviews with inspirational sustainable gardeners, farmers and eaters. I especially savored the section on foraging and taking meals at a slower pace. We could all slow down a little. Slow down, and start by reading about how your diet can become more sustainable and more enjoyable.

Editorial Review:

Whatever the case may be, this easy-to-read, hilarious and informative national guidebook will help you find it, cook it, and enjoy it.

Vegetarians Unite 5 out of 5 stars.

This always was and always will be my favorite vegetarian cookbook!
Easy to make recipes that never fail.

Vegetarian Epicure...excellent! 5 out of 5 stars.

I just re-ordered this book since the one I bought in 1972 is, sadly, falling apart. Some of my favorite recipes ever come from this book. Try the Leniwi Perogis (probably spelling it incorrectly, but it means "Lazy Dumplings"). In great demand from all my kids friends in the neighborhood. Also the quiche recipe is great!

You don't have to be a vegetarian to enjoy this wonderful food.

A Classic! 4 out of 5 stars.

I've had this cookbook since the 70's when vegetarian cooking was new to me and vegetarian cookbooks were not so easy to find....and those that were were rather bland and boring. Anna Thomas introduced me to a number of new (to me)cuisines and her recipes were creative and satisfying. There are many that my family has enjoyed over and over again. This is a classic in the field of vegetarian cooking.

Editorial Review:

A friendly informal tone and some splendid recipes have made this a perennial bestseller. For all who love the fruits of the earth and the art of cooking. A classic with almost a million copies sold to date.

Editorial Review:

The Wheat-Free Cook is the definitive cookbook on living and eating well without wheat. Veteran food writer Jacqueline Mallorca outlines the differences between wheat allergies and celiac disease, provides lists of resources and a guide to gluten-free grains, and offers tip on how and where to shop for gluten-free ingredients. On top of that, Jacqueline offers recipes for quick, modern gluten-free meals that are sure to appeal to the health-conscious cook, whether gluten-sensitive or not—after all, it's just as easy to thicken a comforting stew with rice four or cornstarch as it is with all-purpose flour, and sautéed chicken breasts taste much better when coated with a mixture of ground hazelnuts and Parmesan than stale breadcrumbs. All the formerly off limits favorites are here, from breakfast treats such as pancakes and muffins, to comforting pasta dishes like macaroni and cheese, and decadent desserts including cookies, cakes, tarts, and pies. With The Wheat-Free Cook, Jacqueline Mallorca proves that there is a world beyond wheat.

Great cookbook which has withstood the test of time. 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I bought this cookbook back around 1992 and the tattered paperback is the most used cookbook in my kitchen.

I live with a vegetarian, so most of what I've cooked has been the meatless recipes, and without exception, they have all been wonderful! Some of these recipes are also my potluck dinner staples (esp the Tri-Color Chickpea Salad). The Quick Lasanga with Bean Sauce has been the hit of every party I've taken it to, and the Lentil soup is to die for.

At one point, I went through a heavy-duty baking phase, and tried many of the muffin and quick bread recipes in this book. Again, there wasn't a dud in the bunch - everything I baked was excellent and won praise from all who partook.

Most of the recipes in this book are very good "as is" (they don't need much futzing with). There is some prep work involved (lots of chopping of veggies and the like), so many of the recipes do take some time. Almost half of the book consists of information about food, nutrition, cooking hints and techniques, which I've found to be very useful. Personally, if you have to have one main cookbook, I'd say that this should be it!

Editorial Review:

From the nationally bestselling author of Jane Brody's Nutrition Book comes "the ultimate, reabable, understandable, practical, and useful book on how to live sensibly and well . . . a primer on the new nutrition and weight control" (Craig Claiborne). Contains over 350 recipes.

Very Informative!! 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I highly recommend this book to anybody looking to live the gluten free lifestyle. It's full of knowledgeable facts from a mother of a child with celiac disease. She knows her stuff!!! I read the book and use it often as a reference to foods I should/shouldn't eat. I also love the symptoms and useful advice about living gluten free. I feel much more knowledgeable about the subject after reading this book! I also love the recipes!! :)

What a plethora of information! 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Danna has taken what can be an overwhelming process and broken it into a seamless set of sections that have served me as a reference to my four year old's allergy needs. Korn gives a lay manner of understanding celiac sprue, wheat-free, gluten free and other issues that manifest from these special diets. She gives personal examples and guides the reader into being a positive person with an outlook towards family changes in order to keep everyone balanced.

Editorial Review:

This is a practical, comprehensive and inspirational guide to living a wheat-free, gluten-free lifestyle. It answers the many questions that people have concerning the unique challenges faced by those on such a diet. It helps to take the fear out of eating, and teaches and encourages people to deal with the wheat-free or gluten-free lifestyle in an optimistic yet realistic manner.

2,102 women invite you between these covers

These women want to share intimate secrets about their sex. Secrets that most mortal men never get to hear. You'll learn their real desires-- and exactly what it takes to woo, win, and please them, now and forever.

What Women Want is the most comprehensive, revealing, fascinating study of women and sex ever undertaken on behalf of men like you. Inside, Laurence Roy Stains and Stefan Bechtel-- the authors of Sex: A Man's Guide, a million-copy bestseller-- report in eloquent, manly language on their findings from interviews with more than 2,100 women.

These women let their hair down. They tell how often they fake orgasm and why. (You'll be surprised.) They talk about whether they are after your money, your soul, or both. They reveal what makes them hot and what turns them cold. And they confess that they like sex. They really do. And they really do like men. But they know better than to tell you that.

For the first time, under one cover, you have in your hands the indisputable truth about what women think about love, men, sex, and relationships. Read this book, and you'll have an unfair advantage in matters of love-- where all is fair-- and in the war of the sexes-- where victory occurs only when everybody wins.

Editorial Review:

FOR THOSE IN NEED This cookbook by Pat & Ed Krimmel is an extension of the information presented in their book, THE LOW BLOOD SUGAR HANDBOOK. They have done their best in THE LOW BLOOD SUGAR COOKBOOK to help you prepare the best for your best. It is a very special collection of recipes for the whole world to enjoy. The authors are happy and thankful for all the help these recipes have given them and now want to share the benefits with you.

These recipes are tasty to the palate without being dangerous to the body's chemistry. They are presented in a format that allows for easy reading and preparation. Special effort was taken to design a format pleasant to the eye and easy on the spirit. Ordinary snacks to delightful gourmet dishes are presented along with everything you need to know to prepare foods to help stabilize your blood sugar. No refined carbohydrates (white flour and sugar) or artificial sweeteners are used. Rather, only whole grain flours are used and small amounts of fruits and fruit juices when sweeteners are needed.

Eliminating refined carbohydrates from your diet helps eliminate many of the symptoms of functional hypoglycemia such as headaches, sensitivity to bright lights and loud noises, constant feeling of tiredness, sleeping problems, mood swings, overweight, etc. Even though THE LOW BLOOD SUGAR COOKBOOK was written primarily for low blood sugar sufferers (hypoglycemics), it is equally beneficial to diabetics and weight watchers. In fact, this cookbook is for everyone interested in eating correctly so as to have a healthy, productive and creative life and spirit.

A book for those who are learning to enjoy riding in the wagon for a change, rather than always having to push or pull it. Don't feel exstressive! Balance your body chemistry.

Great book! 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Even if you are not diabetic, this is a great book to have if you want to eat healthy but still satisfy your sweet tooth. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the lack of pictures. The author apparently forgot that "we eat with our eyes first." Pictures would also help with preparation. It's always nice to see what your doing at critical points, not just when you're finished.

Who Knew??? 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Long a believer of the "I'll just take more insulin, I will NOT eat inferior foods--especially sweets" philosophy. I am amazed that one book has transformed my thinking about diabetic baking. Now that I have been an insulin dependent diabetic for 35 years I have learned that I must acquiesce a bit if I am going to go on living. Yet this wonderful book is NOT an acquiescence. The desserts here are wonderful! Co-workers are amazed to discover the delectable treats I bring to covered dish luncheons are low fat and low sugar.

You must try the Peach Coffee Cake! It, and the Almond Ricotta Cake Roll, are to die for...but you don't have to die to have them! Yee haaa!!!

Editorial Review:

You can still have your cake and eat it, too, with this new edition of a bestselling dessert book for diabetics.

For most diabetics, the hardest part of adjusting to a new way of eating is probably not being able to indulge in the desserts they once enjoyed. Now, diabetics need worry no more! Bestselling author Sandra Woodruff has completely revised and updated her popular Diabetic Dream Desserts, including new and improved recipes for cakes, cookies, brownies, pies, strudels, frozen desserts, and other sweet treats that taste better than ever.

#1 Macrobiotic Cookbook 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Admittedly, I purchased this because of the 'Coco Locos' recipe (yummy!). However, I've this more instructive than the average recipe book. Along with the glossary at the beginning, each food category chapter begins with extremely useful information. Especially, for the novice whole food cook. Ms. Pirello has a light humerous way of teaching how various foods actually work, as well as making them tasty.

Christine, Christine, Christine
YUMMY, FUN, GOOD ENERGY She has a recipe of 3 for almost everything healthy in the grocery store. A friend bought wakame and couldn't really find a cookbook with even 1 recipe for it. This book has THREE! Maybe more! And... they are extremely delicious, and easy! All of my friends get this book from me. Enjoy!

Editorial Review:

In this collection of 500 recipes, Pirello takes the mystery out of preparing whole foods and adds a liberal sprinkling of fun. Along with great recipes, Cooking the Whole Foods Way offers menus, meal-planning tips, wit and wisdom, and a simple philosophy which discusses why we choose the foods we eat. Online promo.
