This is a great look and find book that both boys and girls will enjoy. Young readers will love reliving the story of the movie, and the illustrations are wonderful. It's hard to believe that cars can have such wonderful expressions!

There are hours of fun to be found in this book with Lightning McQueen and all the "folks" in Radiator Springs!

Editorial Review:

Lightning McQueen is a hotshot rookie racecar, driven to win the coveted Piston Cup Championship. But on the way to the race, Lightning's impatience causes him to get separated from his driver. In his struggle to find the interstate, Lightning tears through the forgotten Route 66 town of Radiator Springs, demolishing its main street in the process. With the race just days away, Lightning is arrested and forced to slow down for the first time in his life. As he gets to know the town's offbeat residents, he learns the importance of teamwork and friendship--and discovers that life is about the journey, not the finish line.

"Manga" Again 4 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Just like Graystripe's Triology, this "manga" book has a few problems. It is way too short and easy to read, and there is just so much more that should be in it yet this "manga" book would be too long. (My best friend, a manga expert, told me that this really isn't manga. It is read front to back and has more pictures than anything- friendly pictures with not much violence! It's more like a graphic novel, according to my father). I did, however, like to finally get a book made from the villian's point of view! It was really neat to find out mroe about the small deadly cat from Twoleggedplace and why he hates Clan cats so much. I like the new style of drawing, and how it gave a few pictures of the famous Thistleclaw and Tigerpaw! ALSO- Read it carefully, and you will discover the BIGGEST Clan secret EVER! And of course I'm not going to blurt it!
Buy this, it's worth your money, I'm pretty sure! (and now that you know of the secret you'll go crazy trying to get it!)

Editorial Review:

When kittypet Tiny crosses paths with some wild forest cats defending their territory, he is left with scars—and a bitter, deep-seated grudge. As his reputation grows among the strays and loners that live in the dirty brick alleyways of Twolegplace, he changes his name to Scourge and puts everything about his old life behind him—except his deadly desire for revenge.

The story is just getting more intense! 5 out of 5 stars.

Rather than spoil what has gone in the Fullmetal Alchemist manga series so far, I'm just going to say it's great. If you have not read the previous volumes before number 17, I suggest you do so, or you will be lost in the story. It seems that the English localization/translation of the manga has caught up with the current printing in Japan, so I cannot wait for May 2009 to read what happens next. Yes, this is an ongoing series. It is still being written and read in Japan today.

The history of Bleach 4 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

Tite Kubo's "Bleach" series spans dozens of volumes and multiple arcs, and it's still not finished in Japan.

So "Bleach SOULs: Official Character Book" is a convenient little handbook for the first twentysomething volumes of the series, covering the large cast of important characters, the settings, the concepts, and a wealth of fun trivia (Uryu Ishida's nickname is the "Four Eyed Sewing Machine"). Think of it as a sort of Cliff's Notes for the "Bleach" series.

First, we get a bunch of coloured pictures, ranging from Kon and Ichigo celebrating Christmas to a wild-eyed Ichigo about to unleash his bankai. Then we get into the serious stuff -- a truncated summary of each part of the storyline, divided into a bunch of little articles. He starts at the very first "Bleach" chapter, and follows the storyline up through the introduction of the arrancar.

And very time a character is introduced, we get a basic profile with some funny little asides ("Rukia's illustrations are kitschy and chic. She's good and bad?!"). And though most of the individual stories are not described, Kubo keeps in important character development (Chad's vow with Ichigo, Ichigo's guilt over his mother's death) and plot elements (the potential destruction caused by the Quincies). He even adds some details that could not be easily included in the story (such as Byakuya's ridiculously expensive scarf, and why he throws it at Renji).

But that's not all -- he provides detailed information abouyt Karakura town and its important locales (even ones we never see, like "Sunflower Sewing"), as well as the Soul Society's structure, hierarchy, and the reincarnation cycle for souls who end up there. There's also a chronological timeline, title chapter translations, manga panels and pages when illustration is needed, and Kubo and Ichigo's Japanese voice actor Masakazu Morita give a fun little interview.

Since much of this info is contained in the series, Kubo also sprinkles it with odd bits of trivia, such as Hitsugaya mentoring genial gatekeeper Jidanbo. And there's a fun conpendium near the end, with all sorts of wacky terms (for example, "Kurosaki Family Tombstone Domino Tournament." Apparently it makes the local priest crazy).

Aaaaaaannddddd... that's still not all.

Kubo also includes two backstory chapters. One has an ordinary day for Ichigo before the events of the series (crazy pals, sad ghosts, memory lapses). The other is sort of an earlier draft -- Ichigo is a little more laid-back (he gives bus tickets to the Soul Society!), the Hollows aren't quite as ghastly, and one of the main characters actually dies for real.

Additionally, Kubo includes some deliciously wacky little short comic strips, such as the "Bleach" cast posing as pirates, Byakuya doing a demonstration on cell phones, or Ichigo being nagged into wearing a Santa costume during the holidays. Even crazy scientist Mayuri gets in on the action ("All that's important is how funny you are once I stab you!" "He's talked about stabbing twice. Is that all right?!").

In short, the "Bleach SOULs. Official Character Book" is kind of like a manga cliff's notes -- good for investigating the series, summarizing the complex storylines, or just refreshing your memory. And the extras make it worth the read, even if you already know it all.

Warriors Return
By
Erin Hunter
This was an awesome book! The two cats Graystripe and Millie are back in Graystripes trilogy in the book Warriors Return!!!
I would first recommend reading the first two books in the trilogy first. I enjoyed the adventures, the characters and the humor! Graystripe and Millie are finally returning to Thunder Clan, and on the way meet some old friends from the other books, and some new friends too!
They experience many adventures. Graystripe and Millie have their humorous times and their challenges along the way. I really like the way the author brings these cats to life! It's almost like you are there sharing in the adventure and excitement! An example of the humor is when they surprise a cat who has just caught a mouse, and the other cat says, "OK! Take the mouse!", because he knew he was outnumbered!
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes cats!

Millie insists that they keep looking, and an old friend helps point the two cats on the path that the Clans followed many moons ago.

But danger still lurks around every turn, and Graystripe worries that he and Millie are lost on an impossible journey.

Editorial Review:

Scott McCloud tore down the wall between high and low culture in 1993 with Understanding Comics, a massive comic book about comics, linking the medium to such diverse fields as media theory, movie criticism, and web design. In Reinventing Comics, McCloud took this to the next level, charting twelve different revolutions in how comics are generated, read, and perceived today. Now, in Making Comics, McCloud focuses his analysis on the art form itself, exploring the creation of comics, from the broadest principles to the sharpest details (like how to accentuate a character's facial muscles in order to form the emotion of disgust rather than the emotion of surprise.) And he does all of it in his inimitable voice and through his cartoon stand–in narrator, mixing dry humor and legitimate instruction. McCloud shows his reader how to master the human condition through word and image in a brilliantly minimalistic way. Comic book devotees as well as the most uninitiated will marvel at this journey into a once–underappreciated art form.

This particular issue was quite enjoyable for the depictions of fantasy ninja combat between the Puppeteer masters along with the significant character development within the story. Art was above average within this ongoing series.

Graystripe+Manga= .... 3 out of 5 stars.
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

Everyone loves the Warriors series ( at least, they should ). When I saw the preview for this comic book, I wasn't really that excited. I wasn't in to manga, so who cares?
One of my friends lent me the book ( if he's reading this now, I thank him )one morning in school, and I finished it within half-an-hour.
Let me get down to the basics:
On the cover of this comic book, and I'm sure many other Warriors fans agree, there is a picture of Graystripe. What's with him? He looks evil almost, half of him hidden in the shadows, these sharp, cold eyes, and this pointy hairdo which looks like it popped off of a rock star and jumped on Grayytripe's head. I thought Graystripe to be kind looking and gentle- not this guy.
Secondly, Brightheart in the books got one whole half of her head ripped off. In this comic, her eye is just closed. WHAT????
Thirdly, who ever illistrated- James Barry, I think - made Millie have this really odd M on her head, like he was labeling her even though we already knew her.
Graystripe and Millie fell in love way too fast, too. why does he abandon Silverstream for this dumb she-cat? In the actual books, Millie is tough and smart, but in the comics she's afraid of everything and stupid.
The plot is okay, but not great. It all happens to fast.
And Feathertail looks very queer in this comic- she has a sort of flip of hair on her head. Very weird. Not to mention the thick eyelashes on every she-cat.
Anyways, it's good to borrow the book from a good friend, then give it back after half an hour.
I hope this helped,
Moonwhsiker
