D &D is DEAD 1 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I have been playing Dungeons and Dragons since the first boxed set and I have looked forward to each new version and this is no exception. Each new version has tried to improve on the core Dungeon and Dragon experience until now. This new version is not really a new version but an entirely new game with very little of the flavor or magic feeling of the original. Now it feels more like a version of WOW or another of the online games. I am not knocking the online games they can be great if that is what you want to play but if you are looking for an intense good old fashioned role playing session with a group of your friends this new version is not for you unless you are under 12. If you are an experienced role player I would suggest that you save your money and stick to 3.5 there should be a lot of second hand material for that around and several other good companies are still supporting it like Necromancer Games. I wish those people bought Dungeons and Dragons as they know what D&D should feel like. Also look for the games put out by pazzio publishing the company that used to put out the Dragon and Dungeon. In short if you are a veteran of the Dungeons and Dragons and enjoyed the old game save your money or better yet spend it elsceware there are a lot of fine games out there unfortunately this company is no longer make such products.

Editorial Review:

The second of three core rulebooks for the 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game. The Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game has defined the medieval fantasy genre and the tabletop RPG industry for more than 30 years. In the D&D game, players create characters that band together to explore dungeons, slay monsters, and find treasure. The 4th Edition D&D rules offer the best possible play experience by presenting exciting character options, an elegant and robust rules system, and handy storytelling tools for the Dungeon Master. The Dungeon Masters Guide gives the Dungeon Master helpful tools to build exciting encounters, adventures, and campaigns for the 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game, as well as advice for running great game sessions, ready-to-use traps and non-player characters, and more. In addition, it presents a fully detailed town that can serve as a starting point for any D&D game.

Great maps, wretched adventure 2 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

There are positive and negative things one can say about the 4th edition rules, but I'm baffled how anyone can be impressed with "Keep on the Shadowfell". The included maps to cover the key encounters are a nice addition, but the adventure itself is sophomoric and thoroughly uninspiring. The storyline feels flat and linear and the encounters are so basic, even for a first adventure, that boredom set in for some players in my group quite quickly. In an attempt to introduce everyone to the mechanics of 4th edition, I was left feeling that the author had taken a purely clinical approach to the encounter designs, leaving artistic concerns, such as character/world development and plot nuance, completely out of the picture.

I've purchased the second adventure and hope that it reanimates my excitement for pre-written 4th ed. adventures.

Editorial Review:

An introductory 4th Edition D&D adventure for characters of levels 1-3. The town of Winterhaven stands watch over a ruined keep that was once a bastion of good in the realm. This keep overlooks the Shadow Rift, a dark scar in the world that was once a gateway to the Shadowfell but has been dormant for many years. Now, an evil cleric of Orcus, Demon Lord of the Undead, seeks to re-open the gate, and the only thing standing in his way is a small yet determined band of heroes. Keep on the Shadowfell is an exciting Dungeons & Dragons adventure designed for characters of levels 1-3. It includes three double-sided poster maps suitable for use with D&D Miniatures.

Missing some thngs 4 out of 5 stars.

Most of the info in the book seems to be accurate. There are a couple spots in the game that I had to look some manuevers up online because the book either wasn't clear or omitted certain instructions. Again, for the most part the book is a lifesaver! :-)

A 4th Edition D&D® adventure for characters of levels 4-6

Beneath Thunderspire Mountain lies a sprawling network of mazes, tombs, and caverns collectively known as the Labyrinth of Lost Souls. In recent years, this vast labyrinth has become a living dungeon where trade between the surface and subterranean worlds is possible. However, beyond the well-lit halls where prospectors, merchants, and traders convene lies a darker world where adventurers battle monsters and fiendish beings perform secret rituals for their dark masters. . .

H2 Thunderspire Labyrinth is a D&D adventure designed for heroic-tier characters of levels 4-6.

This product includes an adventure booklet for the Dungeon Master, a player's booklet containing new character options and campaign information, and a full-color poster map, all contained in a handy folder.

H2 Thunderspire Labyrinth is the second adventure in a three-part series that began with H1 Keep on the Shadowfell and concludes with H3 Pyramid of Shadows. It can also be played as a stand-alone adventure.

A must have for experienced players (and an inexpensive way for new players to give the game a try) 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The Clone Wars Starter Set is the fifth starter set for the Star Wars Miniatures game. This starter set comes with six figures (more information on the figures is presented below). You can also buy the Clone Wars boosters to add significant variety to the game (there are 40 additional figures in the Clone Wars minis set - and this is the 11th booster set for the Star Wars minis game). I'll try to write more about the Clone Wars boosters in a separate review, but the rest of this review focuses on the four key reasons why I gave this starter set five stars.

First, each starter set comes with the same six fixed figures, including three light side figures (General Obi-Wan Kenobi, Clone Trooper Commander, and Clone Trooper), and three dark side figures (Count Dooku of Serenno, Security Battle Droid, and Super Battle Droid Commander). The Obi-Wan and Dooku figures are exclusive to the starter set (which means you can't get them anywhere else). Both of these exclusive figures have amazing stats, special abilities, and force powers (and Obi-Wan also has a super commander effect), so they are definitely worth adding to your collection. And, while the other four figures are available in previous sets, I very much appreciate the fact that you know exactly what you are getting up front. IMPORTANT NOTE: There is a misprint on Obi-Wan's card. Soresue Style Mastery says "When hit by an attack...," but it should say "When hit by a MELEE attack..." (this has been confirmed by the game's creator, so be sure to check out the glossary in the new rule book for the correct wording).

Second, and perhaps just as importantly, this set includes two great new maps ("Christophis" on one side, and "Freight Transit Station" on the other side). To me, these two new maps alone are worth the entire price of the starter set (i.e., since the map you pick and play on can influence the game as much as the figures you chose to play with -- and both of these maps are very melee figure friendly). At the time this review was written there was no other way to get these maps except to purchase this starter set.

Third, the starter set also contains a book with the quick start and advanced rules (and both are very easy to understand). Further, the Glossary at the end contains the latest definitions for all key words, special abilities, and force powers for every set released up to this point (i.e., the only place all of this information is located in one convenient location).

Fourth, the set also includes a D20, force/damage counters, and pretty much everything you'll need to play. So, if this is the very first Star Wars minis item you are purchasing, you will still be able to have a fun game right out of the box.

In sum, I think most experienced players will want to purchase this starter set for the exclusive figures and the two maps. However, if you are new to the game and just want to give it a try, this is a very inexpensive and reasonable way to do so.
