Editorial Review:

Now in paperback, the national bestseller from the funniest man in America, who looks back at his life . . . bit by bit.

With more than 200,000 hardcover copies in print, Bill Cosby's Cosbyology has landed on bestseller lists nationwide, including the New York Times and USA Today.

In this wonderfully funny collection of stand-up material that touches on everything from childhood and marriage to school, sports, and work, Bill Cosby returns to his early days of comedy to give us a look at the funny side of life. Fusing his classic jazzy timing and edgy humor with the intelligence and perception that have made him a huge star, Cosby writes about his first experiences skiing, lying to his mother as a child, and fretting about ingrown hairs in midlife. Fans young and old will be eager to add this paperback edition to their collection, while new fans everywhere will delight in this sampling of great comic genius.

Bill Cosby is one of America's most beloved and well-known performers. He entered show business as a stand-up comedian in 1962 and has appeared in such television hits as I Spy, the animated Fat Albert, The Cosby Show, and Cosby. He has also starred in several movies and has written the bestselling books Childhood, Fatherhood, and Congratulations! Now What?, as well as the Little Bill children's series.

Editorial Review:

One genius takes on another.

Bursting defiantly and gleefully beyond the bounds of orthodox biography, Sigmund Freud is a wildly humorous exercise in bending, stretching and speculating on the activities of the so-called Father of Psychoanalysis. Ralph Steadman wields his shrewd wit and fierce pen to highlight the movements of Freud's life and career, from early childhood to the moment of death.

But there's a twist. Through a masterful interplay of text and illustration, each scene is transformed into a "joking situation," which the artist hilariously examines according to the techniques discussed by Freud himself in his 1905 book, Jokes and Their Relation to the Unconscious. The result is a fantastic Freudian festival of visual and verbal puns, unexpected insights, and sheer intellectual enjoyment.

Originally published in hardcover in 1979, released in paperback in 1997, and now back in print, Sigmund Freud is superbly illustrated with more than 50 major drawings and 25 vignettes. It remains one of the most original illustrated books of our times and a Ralph Steadman classic.

Editorial Review:

The Midwest in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s was a special place-a place where parents and children worked side by side to eke out a living from the land, and neighbors stuck by each other through good times and bad.

In this affectionate, insightful collection of stories, Jerry Apps takes us to that world. He relives the toughness of farm life-plowing the soil with horses, milking cows by hand, putting in long days with heavy, dangerous machinery. He shows us the lighter side too, as he peddles his father's massive rutabaga harvest and gets to know the neighbor boys-and their personal dictionary of cuss words. We meet Frank, Pinky, and Harry, three farmers whose love of music could transform an entire community; Morty, the odd loner whom only a few wild animals could understand; and Fanny, the extraordinary collie whose role on the farm was as important as that of any human being.

Withing each story we see just how warm, loving, and supremely educational growing up on a farm could be, for it is here that a young child learns not only how to take the head off a chicken and drive a tractor like a grown-up, but to deal with illness, disability, and death. Resonating with poingnancy and humor, When Chores Were Done contains stories you'll want to read over and over again. Jerry Apps is a master storyteller who writes through the eyes of a child and with the wisdom of a man. Through the tales are personal, their lessons are universal.

I've already read the cartoons about 10 times and it's still funny! I've kept this book on my coffee table and everybody that visits loves it. Seriously, it's funny as hell.

A must have 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is a must have for anyone in the eye care industry. I laughed out loud. I had so much fun reading it, that I have purchased several copies to give to colleagues.

LOL!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book was "h-EYE-larious." If you ever had to wear glasses or contacts, this book is for you. All I can say is that I can't wait for Sight Gags 2 to come out.

Editorial Review:

Sight Gags takes a look into the world of vision through the eyes of an artist-turned-optometrist. This collection of 92 cartoons shows that eyeballs are not just the windows to your soul, but are also directly connected to your funny bone (it's a complicated neurological pathway, but that's another book entirely). Optometrists, ophthalmologists, opticians, and anybody with eyes will enjoy the off-the-wall humor in this book whether it be at home or in a doctor's waiting room.

Editorial Review:

Now in paperback, the ingenious illustrated memoir that is widely praised:

“Hilarious, hell-raising, and frequently heart-wrenching.” —Booklist

“[A] unique tragicomedy of a memoir . . . The author is so likable, even in her darkest hour, that as you applaud her recovery you also realize you’ll miss looking after her.” —Entertainment Weekly (“A” rating)

“Compelling reading . . . Becker has turned one person’s experience into a universal story of family, healing, and the return to creativity.” —Library Journal (starred review)

“A wonderful book, funny and touching, harrowing and sweet.” —Anne Lamott, author of Bird by Bird

For years Suzy Becker, author of the New York Times bestseller All I Need to Know I Learned from My Cat (1.7 million copies in print), literally lived by her wits. Then brain surgery left her temporarily unable to speak, read, or write. I Had Brain Surgery, What's Your Excuse? is a story that grapples with the question “What makes me me?” By turns philosophical and whimsical, rivetingly dramatic and unexpectedly light, it is illustrated with drawings, charts, pseudoserious graphs, real EEGs. The result is a book filled with insights into creativity, identity, love, relationships, family, and that intangible something that gives each of us our spark.

Crazy stories 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a strange and funny book. It has dozens of unusual, humorous and macabre stories, which the author claims are true.

Some of them seem too unbelievable to be true, but if Myers says they are true, you kind of have to believe him.

My favorite is "The Runny Nose", which should make everyone very fearful of going to a hospital. I recomend this as easy and light reading.

a fun read 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Aside from the Guiness Book of World records, I found this to be one of the best books for insomnia. The stories, though at times comically badly written as prose, do tend to have their charm. It's almost an affirmation of "if it can happen under the sun it will", but regarding the human body. Not for the light of stomach, not written forensically but in common English, it's an entertaining read.

Editorial Review:

These brief, intriguing case histories drawn from medical journals involve unusual symptoms disguising real problems. For example, a woman who claims to have swallowed a toothbrush while brushing her teeth is exposed as a bulimic who was actually using the brush to induce vomiting. This and other gruesome, surprising, perplexing, and humorous cases are presented as medical riddles for readers to diagnose and solve.

Kill us with how terribly clever you as, Oscar. 2 out of 5 stars.
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I am obviously out of step with the opinions of the other readers. I am in the medical field, and this may affect how I view this book ( although I ADORED House of God). I felt like the author wrote this book so he could admire how very clever he was, like a vain person who is always checking him/herself out in the store windows when walking by. Just to smug.

World's Best Doctor 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

A very quick read, filled with short, humorous essays on how to become the world's best doctor (after the author, Oscar London, dies, because he currently considers himself the world's best doctor.)

This would be a great graduation present for medical students. It's all about staying down to earth, treating the patient rather than the disorder, and just being the best doctor, and person, you can be.

"s serious topics 4 out of 5 stars.

I am a physician, so reading Dr. London's semihumorous review of how he has survived the vagaries of office practice and been an advocate for his patients has been a confirmation of some of my own prejudices. Some of his revelations, such the fact that physicians don't know everything nor diagnose every disease accurately, may come as a shock to some people. Medicine involves one imperfect human being caring for a series of similarly flawed people who happen to be sick and distressed by their illness. It's a miracle, given the variability of illness, and the tendency of patients to deviate from the "textbook" descriptions, that we save as many as we do. The book injects a needed reality into the mysterious world of office practice, which is far different from the hospital environment usually dramatized on TV.

It's a worthwhile addition to the popular medical literature; it won't tell you how to cure your ulcer or stave off a heart attack, but it will tell you what makes your doctor tick. Bravo, Dr. London!

Editorial Review:

"An alluring mix of humor, bravery, cynicism, and compassion." --London Daily Telegraph

It's the stuff of Grey's Anatomy, House, and ER--only these events aren't unfolding on a Hollywood soundstage.

Have you ever wondered what's going on inside the ambulance screaming past you during your rush-hour commute? Since 2003, Tom Reynolds (writing under an alias so as not to get sacked from his job), has kept a blog where he chronicles the day-in, day-out realities of his life on the job as an EMT with the London Ambulance Service.

By turns both poignant and profound, Reynolds's writing captures the very essence of life and death. From the mundane to the surreal, from the heartwarming to the cynical, from the calm to the frenetic, more than 300 entries from his popular blog at randomreality.blogware.com are included in the book.

Dear Mr. Alcoholic:

Would you mind awfully not swearing at me, taking a swing at me, or exposing yourself to me? I have quite enough abuse from the nondrunks out there. . . . Still, at least your fists are easy to dodge, and if I stop holding you up, you fall over.

The author's hugely popular blog, Random Acts of Reality, has been named Medgadget Best Medical Blog and Best Literary Medical Blog.

It is not impossible to find something humorous about a disease as devastating as Parkinson’s. All you have to do is read this book. What’s Shakin will have you rolling on the floor with laughter, so be careful where you read it, you do not want to become the object of whispers and stares.

The perfect gift for that special paranoiac in your life 5 out of 5 stars.
20 of 20 people found this review helpful.

This book is a wonderful way to torture anyone who has ever thought twice about touching that doorknob. Lots of fun and chilling information about the germs, microbes, and other agents of death that are everywhere around us, invading us insidiously, hastening disease. Do not read this book on the toilet, for example. Written with humor and a sly sadism, this is a user-friendly manual that, if studied and heeded, could add years to your life, provided you spend them in a plastic bubble. A perfect stocking-stuffer for anyone who thinks it's safe to shake hands--and for those who know that it isn't.

Editorial Review:

Feeling good? Are you sure? This hilarious guide -- a sequel to the best-selling Paranoid's Pocket Guide -- is guaranteed to make you wonder. With hundreds of symptoms to watch for and in-depth information on the latest germ mutations, this compendium offers compelling proof that there is always something to worry about, even if you seem to be in perfect shape. A must-have for today's health-conscious individual, it also reveals worrisome facts about doctors and insurance companies. It's packed with black-and-white photos documenting everyday items that can menace your health -- often seemingly "harmless" items such as a pencil or a water fountain. Fortunately, this book will make you laugh, which releases endorphins and promotes health -- for the moment. For soundness of body and mind, read the Hypochondriac's Handbook. Better safe than sorry!
