So to start, there is a huge problem with this page. If you utilize Amazon's Search Inside feature for this version of the book it is actually showing you the inside of a different copy of Poor Richards Almanack. What you see is definitely not the inside of this book and I'll tell you why later.

Another problem with this page is the fact that people are reviewing the content of Poor Richards Almanack and giving you, the consumer, a history lesson on the book. But come on... the content of the book is pretty much a given. If you're not familiar with the Poor Richards Alamanack, then it's probably a good idea to check it out from a library before you buy it. You would want to own a copy simply for novelty's sake.

So onto the review of the actual product... This is a very poor copy in terms of quality (just like this review). This is just speculation, but it literally appears as if someone from the publisher went to the copy machine with an original copy of the book, pressed the "Enlarge 150%" button, photocopied the entire original book onto larger paper, bound it, put a cover on it, and sold it as the copy you see here. The black space you see on the cover is about the size of the margins within the book. This creates an obnoxious amount of white space around the paragraphs which in turn makes the book difficult to read. On top of this, some of the pages are slightly crooked.

So as I've stated, the content is exactly like the original, but you can easily find a better version than this one. Unless the book was intended for people with impaired vision, there is no reason the original book should have been blown up and placed on 2 inch margins. I would steer clear of this version and find a better one.

As a side note, there are several versions of Poor Richards Almanack. Some have his quotes reorganized into categories and some versions have his quotes re-written into more modern language. And there is, of course, the original. For Christmas, I got my Mom the original as well as the one with the organized quotes. So I guess it's whatever your preference is.

Smaller than a 3X5 card, it has a big book price. Hardbound, it'll last a while. History of the last 100 years. Cute gift idea. Decent read. Nothing extra special about it. Kind of gimmicky.

I've read several of The Onion's books, and this one stands out as the funniest. A few of my favorite headlines: "Kennedy Slain by CIA, Mafia, Castro, LBJ, Teamsters, Freemasons,"; "Stalin Announces Five-Year 'Everybody Dies' Plan"; and "World's Largest Metaphor Hits Ice-Berg". Hopefully we can all learn something from The Onion's version of history, or we'll be condemned to repeat it!

It sounds so incredibly good that you don't know sometimes if what they are saying is true or false. You really need a strong background in the subject on some of the information to get it.

SOMETIMES THOUGHT PROVOKING, AND AT OTHER TIMES LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY ! 4 out of 5 stars.

As a long time George Carlin fan (in the early 1970s I owned George's then new Class Clown album on vinyl, and I saw him live in the 1990s), I couldn't wait to read his first hardcover book, so I went out and bought a brand new copy of Brain Droppings when it was first released in 1997. I wasn't disappointed at all with the book then, and still occasionally read that same copy for a good laugh.

Brain Droppings is a sometimes hilarious, sometimes mildly amusing, collection of George's maverick hippie stand-up comedy routines, peculiar personal opinions, and random thoughts on the English language and human behavior. Some of his famous and most popular routines like "A Place For Your Stuff" and "Baseball And Football" are included along with several lists of his favorite redundancies (foreign imports), favorite euphemisms (police clubs = batons), favorite oxymorons (original copy), and people he can do without (anyone who refers to Charles Manson as "Chuck"). It's Carlin, so the languange is definitely R-rated, but not vulgar or unreasonably profane. It's completely off the wall and out of leftfield. He finds humor and absurdity even in the most mundane:

If you ever have chicken at lunch and chicken at dinner, do you ever wonder if the two chickens knew each other?

Poor confetti. It's useful life lasts about two seconds. And it can never be used again.

I think it would be fun to go on "Jeopardy" and never buzz in. Just stand there for half an hour, never talk, and then go home.

Brain Droppings is a carefree and interesting read, and because it's full of one liners, lists, and short essays, it's easily readable in bits and pieces from time to time after the first read. It's an amusing and quirky look at life from a great, much loved, and widely respected comic genius who's original and unorthodox style inspired millions to think for themselves and laugh at the absurdity of life.

George Carlin's been working the crowd since "the counterculture" became "the over-the-counter culture" around 1967 or so; his new book, Brain Droppings, surfs on three decades of touring-in-support. It's the purest version of book-as-candy that one could imagine, serving up humor in convenient, bite-sized packages. Snack on chewy one-liners like "A meltdown sounds like fun. Like some kind of cheese sandwich." Or: "If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten." Brain Droppings also contains highlights from Carlin's concert repertoire, and that more than makes up for the occasional spray of pointless nihilism. Tell us, George, what exactly were you going for with "Kill your pet" and "Satan is cool"? Quick--hide the paper before Daddy sees it! Still, if you're a fan of this sarcastic semanticist who's given Bad Attitude not necessarily a good name, but at least a comfy bank account, by all means rush out and snag Brain Droppings. Carlin's book melts in your mind, not in your hand.

The very human side of an intimidatingly erudite polymath 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is a delicious trove of correspondence that shows WFB's sense of humor and wall-to-wall good nature. He spars with critics and detractors, tweaks friends like Art Buchwald and spreads his trademark wit, logophilia and his positively infectious joie de vivre over the decades. My favorite line is from a 12 or 13-year old asking for advice on life. WFB's response: never grow up. He was a man who very obviously cherished and loved God, family and country and his loss is acutely felt. This book is a delightful snapshot of the many facets of his personality.

Tom Tomorrow a/k/a Dan Perkins is extremely insightful when reviewing our current political climate. This book is a must read for all of his fans who may have forgotten his prediction of the tech and housing bubbles, as well as everyone else who do not read his work on a weekly basis. Dpn't just buy one copy, buy several to give as gifts to those who still need enlightening.
