Editorial Review:

Here we are in 2007 (or YOLD 3173), forty-eight, or forty-nine years after Mal2 and Omar's Discordian revelations at the hands of the Goddess Eris. Principia Discordia has been republished a number of times over the years, but not since 1976 has it been available to the general public in hardback format. Synaptyclypse Generator is proud to present this special edition of the legendary counter-culture classic, the bible of Discordianism. We have spared no cabbage-power in preparing this wonderful hardback edition for your enjoyment and enlightenment. We have done the best we could have hoped to ensure a quality and cherishable version of Principia Discordia. For this edition, we have included Kerry W. Thornley's introduction to the 1991 Illuminet Press edition and Robert Anton Wilson's Loompanics Unlimited introduction. We include all the material from the last Loompanics printing and any odd bits left over from the Illuminet version. We have closing 'Outroductions' by none other than the Rev.Dr Jon Swabey of Apocrypha Discordia fame and 'crackpot historian,' Adam Gorightly, author of The Prankster and the Conspiracy, The Story of Kerry Thornley and How He Met Oswald and Inspired the Counterculture. It also features the most sumptuously gorgeous cover that any edition has ever had.

hyp hypnotist 5 out of 5 stars.

Many years ago when Steve first published this book I owned an original copy signed by him. I cherished this book. It is a bit difficult for the lay person reading but once you take the time to read through the pages your life will be positively changed.

Monsters and Magical Sticks 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is a very cool book about inducing Hypnosis where "traditional" inductions fail. It is directed at hypnosis professionals, but certainly an interesting read to anybody interested in the phenomenon it is to many.

First, Steve wrote it in a very relaxed and sometimes funny way. It is laced with examples of his own experience where his unconventional approach worked with subjects that claimed they could not be hypnotized. It does not attempt to over-explain and theorize neither hypnosis by itself nor the described approaches.

Steve starts out arguing that we all experience hypnosis every day in all sort of settings, also comparing Learning with Hypnosis. He then excurses on conscious output systems and unconscious processing systems. This becomes a key concept for almost everything that follows. It is described in an easy to understand form, but I am sure will still be not so easy to put to use. The last concept he introduces are Anchors, and again he brings several case studies how he used anchors to interrupt the patient's belief system and show them to break out of established negative patterns.

Steve's "method" (if you could actually call it that) is based on Erickson's teachings. At the core is the insight that a left-brained approach to problems introduced by the patient's right-brain processes will likely not give the desired results. I am certain you will be able to attest to this insight after you read this book - NOW.

Editorial Review:

If you want to know how hypnosis really works (and, no, it has nothing to do with waving of hands or other similar nonsense), you will want to read this book. If you want to know the "magic" behind Ericksonian techniques and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, you have to read this book. From one of the true masters of hypnotherapy, this is one book that can really change your life!!

Start getting dumped 1 out of 5 stars.
5 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This book is not what it says it is, and is a waste of time for any intelligent girl, or any one at all really. It basically tells you how to be dishonest and shallow and that is how to get what you want. Not much different from most any other book in this genre, so I would stick with a Vogue style relationship quiz and probably get more out of it than you would out of this book. Or honestly just be yourself and you'll have more luck than any advice you could get here.

It's the truth! 4 out of 5 stars.

The good part about this book is that the author really encourages woman to treat themselves better. It is true that once you are comfortable and happy with yourself, it will show through for others to see, thus resulting in more positive attention from the male gender. I can honestly say Thank You to Lisa because it made me realize that I don't have to settle for less in a man than I want.

Perfect for anyone, but especially procrastinators 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I got the 2008 calendar as a joke, but found it to be super useful. The to do list makes you think about what needs to get done and what can be put off. There is a great sense of accomplishment when you can darken the smiley face (meaning you completed the task) and motivation to complete unfinished tasks when you darken the frown face. It is hard not to love the short topic/reminder articles. Not only are the tips for how to accomplish tasks that procrastinators struggle with, but there are also levels of engagement so that cronic procrastinators don't have to feel guilty when we do not achieve perfection. Another benefit of the articles is the timeliness. For example, the holiday planning article appears in October. It reminds me to think about holidays and add items to my to do list before I run out of time. The key is using it and I found it to be small and flexible enough to tuck into a work notebook or my purse. It helped me so much, I even ordered my 2009 copy a month and a half before the year ends.

Editorial Review:

The Procrastinator's SOS Planner has won over many devoted eleventh-hour doers whose favorite day of the week is tomorrow. Whether you're treading water filling out a last minute tax return, cramming all night before an exam, or buying presents on Christmas Eve, this humorous yet handy calendar comes to the rescue. Lifesaving facts and resources make the planner a useful tool for anyone trying to keep his head above water in this demanding world. Each weekly spread has a "To Do (or Not) List." Such features as "Timewasters & Cheap Thrills," "Bail-Out Excuses," and "Ultimate Reprieves" provide comic relief to those in Mayday distress. The perfect gift for your favorite sloth.

I fell asleep with this book clutched in my arms 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Amazing...I didn't want it to end. It opened a new fronteer of book reading in my life. It changed me. This man, Fulghum, packs so much emotion into his words. How I wish I could live like him, or at least write like him. Definintely inspritional and touching and funny. I can't say it enough! Read it! Nothing out there compares to Fulghum's sensitivity about everything in life. I don't know how to say it any other way. If I had even half as much truth and insight as this author has, I would be happy.

How can I describe this work? 5 out of 5 stars.

Imagine, if you will a Sunday evening, with everybody still in their church clothes after having eaten a delicious Sunday dinner. Everyone's sort of lazily sated and they all meet on the porch to hang out for a while: they wave and smile at neighbors passing by, perhaps they bask in the evening sunset. Then, someone let's out the loudest, longest burp. Making every one burst out laughing...that's a bit how Fulghum's book on everyday observations, inspirations from happy accidents, and the many, many people he has run into is like. Some of the stories are tenderhearted like his experiencing culinary delights (Jelly Bellys in Cheerios) with a grand child or his gaining a reluctant love of a neighbor's ol' dawg. Other stories are of the making lemonade out of lemons type...a good, good cigar gets swiped by someone who perhaps appreciated it more...the bride is plagued with hiccoughs in the middle of the wedding ceremony....old VFWer's crash their pals' funeral with an anemic 10 gun salute and a stripper...all done in Fulghum's easy-does-it style. Do I like the book? Of course I do. Does it make me smile? You bet. My only problem is waiting long enough to forget all about the book and how much I love it, so that I can read it again like a 'new book' and enjoy it some more....does that sound like a Fulghum scenario to you? Anyway, get it and read it one lazy Sunday afternoon. You will thank me for the suggestion.

Women have always been wonderful sources of inspiration and support for each other. They are willing to lay bare their souls and share their experiences, even with perfect strangers. Put two random women together in a room, on an airplane, in a line at the supermarket, and the sharing begins, often at the deepest level.

The first Chicken Soup for the Soul book was published in 1993, and became a publishing industry sensation, ultimately selling eight million copies. The company went on to publish more than 150 Chicken Soup titles, selling more than 100 million copies, and becoming a household name.

Chicken Soup for the Soul has won dozens of awards over the past 15 years, and its founders, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen have become celebrity motivational speakers and authors.

Don't waste your Time 1 out of 5 stars.
4 of 12 people found this review helpful.

From the other reviews I thought I'd like this book. I can't even finish it (but I'm still trying). I know lots of "Wacky Chicks" but they're not as obscene and crass as the ones written about here. Seems you can only be "wacky" if you fit into the author's category and there we go again.....putting people into boxes.

Honestly, the book was boring and I thought I could have written it better using my own eccentric friends.

Editorial Review:

In his bestselling Wacky Chicks, irreverent social commentator and humor writer Simon Doonan introduces readers to a bracing cross section of exuberantly unconventional women: comedienne Amy Sedaris; fashion designer turned park ranger Spider Fawke; Warhol muse Brigid Berlin; Suzanne Bartsch, the woman who showed Madonna how to vogue; and many more. Distinguished primarily by their wild originality and rule-breaking chutzpah, these women defy rules, shape the cultural landscape, and enrich the world. They are about as diverse a flock as you can imagine, but all of them are Belligerent, Resilient, Uninhibited, Naughty, Creative, and Hilarious (B.R.U.N.C.H. for short). In a word, they are Wacky, and they are ready to enlighten you. A book that pays tribute to the wild and unstoppable female in each of us, Wacky Chicks is the ultimate guide to embracing your inner rebel.

Editorial Review:

"Hard work never killed anybody." This conviction built our great nation and made it the star-spangled superpower that it is. But Bradley Trevor Greive (BTG) wants us to know when enough's enough! Funny and perceptive, The Book for People Who Do Too Much reminds us that, in fact, hard work has killed a whole bunch of people. It has also caused premature aging, unsightly baldness, and explosive indigestion and is responsible for a lot of very questionable fashion statements.Too many people drive themselves beyond reasonable limits to do more, have more, and be more. BTG points out that ironically, they actually end up with a lot less. "It's like climbing mountain after mountain and never taking the time to look at the view," he says. With his trademark combination of engaging animal photos, gentle humor, and priceless insights, BTG urges us to have the courage to say NO, and to learn to use this liberating two-letter word in a way that is amusing and empowering and won't offend. Saying no can sound selfish, but by saving time to enjoy our lives and pursue our true passions, we'll ultimately have a lot more of ourselves to share with those who are most special to us.
