Overall best Christmas Book 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

I've been playing and teaching guitar for 36+ years and I use this book more than any other for christmas. If you know how to play notes and chords, it's great. If you know how to turn a single note melody into a chord solo, this book is fantastic. This book is great for the student that is ready to be taught how to create chord solos.

Editorial Review:

The 4th edition of this bestselling fake book has been updated to now include 275 traditional and contemporary Christmas songs! Includes the melody line, lyrics and chords for: All Through the Night * Away in a Manger * The Chipmunk Song * The Christmas Shoes * The Christmas Song * Deck the Hall * Do You Hear What I Hear * Feliz Navidad * Frosty the Snow Man * Fum, Fum, Fum * Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer * Happy Holiday * A Holly Jolly Christmas * I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day * I'll Be Home for Christmas * Jingle-Bell Rock * Jingle Bells * Joy to the World * Little Saint Nick * Merry Christmas, Darling * Nuttin' for Christmas * Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer * Silent Night * Silver Bells * Toyland * Up on the Housetop * What Child Is This? * Who Would Imagine a King * Wonderful Christmastime * more.

You'll fall in love with John Lennon 5 out of 5 stars.

I was in 7th or 8th grade when this movie came out and I saw it in the theater 3 times. It's truly a fantastic look at the life and times of John Lennon. From birth through death, it chronicles many of the highlights from his life. The music is fantastic, combining both Beatles and solo stuff. The interviews are top notch and I truly recommend this film for anyone who's ever been curious about John Lennon and who he was.

It's been a long time coming for this film to show up on DVD and it was worth the wait.

Dream is over 4 out of 5 stars.

When this film was first released, it was quite interesting, introspective and entertaining. Now on DVD it almost seems like an afterthought with the release of The Beatles Anthology DVD set. It still holds up well, but sometimes the anti-war Lennon gets boring. Makes you wonder how great his solo career may have been had he concentrated on his music more than his politics & causes. A nice addition to any Beatles or Lennon fans collection.

Editorial Review:

Of all John Lennon's songs, "Imagine" has come to represent the man himself. More than any of the great songs he wrote for the Beatles, this gentle, poignant ballad serves as Lennon's epitaph. Published to coincide with the December anniversary of Lennon's death, Imagine offers a collection of words and images which together make an elegant memorial and an evocative gift. 40 duotone photos.

Songs to read books. 5 out of 5 stars.

My sister is a principal and highly recommeded this book for my grandchildren. THey love to read and sing so what better gift than to have it all wrapped into one.

Great book! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is great even if you don't know the music. My little guy 'reads' along while listening to the Raffi CD, but you don't need the CD to enjoy the book. The pictures are terrific for the child and adult. My son insists on reading this every night at bedtime, and that's okay with me!

gift for new mom's or mom's to be 5 out of 5 stars.

I love this book and the accompaning CD. My grandsons who are now 13 had this book when they were infants, and were still singing the songs when they were 5. I gave it as a gift to my God Daughter, and this one was a gift for my first Great Grandson. Raffi writes stories and songs that children should grow up with. I am positive I will give this book and CD again.

Wondefully illustrated 5 out of 5 stars.

While the song is adorable and the pages are nice and sturdy, what I really like about this book are the illustrations. They are vibrant and clear and my son loves looking at this book over and over again. He is 16 months, so it is easy for him to point out animals and ask what they are. I like how the whale goes from being a baby, to a larger whale in the book and how different pages are shown with different perspectives. One page has a view from where the bird is flying in the sky--so the bird is large and the whale is small because he is swimming in the sea below. Another page has a broad view of the icebergs, sea, sky and northern lights. I am very impressed with the clarity and creativity of the illustrations in this book--and of course the song itself is fun to sing!

Editorial Review:

Raffi's signature song and the top seller in his Songs to Read series, Baby Beluga is now available in a quality board book edition perfect for his youngest fans.

Perfect piano learner - just the right amount of content 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 0 people found this review helpful.

This book will give you everything you need to get started playing the piano. The book is a very easy read with concise, right to the point instructions and doesn't offer you anything but the basics, hammering home the key points.

You should find that (assuming you have at least some basic knowledge of music) that you will be able to play a few recognizable songs within a matter of days! I am not saying you will play them like a seasoned pro, but you will play them in a way that would impress your friends or family and will prompt them to ask, 'when did you start taking lessons?'

I love how Scott just dives right in and gives you what you need to know to play right away. The book is short and sweet and offers just enough content.

I also purchased his fake book and the first song I started working on was "Hey Jude". The music notation is in the key of C (from what I understand the easiest key to play) and I would say after a few hours I could play it somewhat decently. After a week, I had it nailed. Not just a riff or two, but the whole song atart to finish! I was blown away by my progress and look forward to learning more and more songs.

For roughly $10 you can't go wrong with this book. Just be sure and keep an open mind when you read it and please don't listen to piano snobs who will tell you 'oh this is just shortcuts and nonsense'. They are just jealous that they spend thousands of dollars on lessons and probably wish they learned piano in this manner to begin with.

Highly recommended.

Editorial Review:

As seen on public television stations nationwide, a revolutionary new approach to playing non-classical music on the piano.

Have you ever wished you could play the piano? Well, now you can! Scott "The Piano Guy" Houston teaches you to play the way the pros play, in a style enormously simpler than traditional classical piano and with an absolute minimum of note-reading. By focusing on playing the melody with the right hand (one note at a time) and simple chords with the left hand, Houston gives you the tools you need for a lifetime of musical enjoyment. Best of all, your tour guide to this adventure forces you to have fun along the way!

excellent album - excellent book... 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Real well laid out easy to read format - same as the other great Cherry Lane Metallica tab books. Not alot I can say really - is an excellent book - although if you were looking for some slightly 'easier' Metallica to start with you might want to look at the self titled/'Black' album. If you've pretty much got grips with most of the likes of Master Of Puppets and all the other great Metallica albums you'll really enjoy learning from this book - is really excellent...

What a book !!!! 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is great , easy tabs to learn, it's clear and accurate. Only negative side: No pics or introduction and interviews with the band, like a lot of metallica's tab books

Big Book of Christmas Songs for Clarinet 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a great book for christmas music and it is very good to learn clarinet.
I am very happy with it.

Great collection of songs 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Great selection of songs, plenty to choose from. I have the Cello version. It is pretty easy to sight read; I would say the level of difficulty is beginner to intermediate student. One thing that stinks is the cello version does not have lyrics. I am hoping all sets are compatible, so that I can get a version for the Piano to have someone play along with me. Also, the binding is annoying. You need clips to keep it open. But, I am planning on bringing it to an office supply store to change the binding to spiral bound. It costs about $3 to change the binding.

Big Christmas Book for Cello 1 out of 5 stars.

I am interested in a book of Christmas songs for cello, and one comes up in the search, but the book shown, the book reviewed, and the book that comes up for purchase is for Piano/Guitar/Vocal.

How do I learn about the Cello version?

Fretboard Patterns not theory. 5 out of 5 stars.
0 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is not a music theory book.
Fretboard Logic describes the Fretboard patterns that are a direct result of the guitar's unique tuning. The patterns discussed are essentially scales and chords covering the entire fretboard.
There is some occasional theory necessary to teach the subject and no more.
It may be too much for many beginners to grasp the importance of what the author is teaching but, that certainly does not mean you can't benefit by learning something new such as pentatonic scales and full bar chords (that's the first 27 pages.)
I could not play full bar chords when I bought the book. You know what you do to cure that? Practice playing them 10 minutes a day and then go onto something else.
I was thrilled when I bought HOB Blues DVD #1 and recognized the scale patterns and realized I could start APPLYING what I learned from this book. No, you will not be a better guitar player after reading this book just because you know some chords and scales. But you will have a solid foundation that will help you APPLY the information in this book as you learn music theory and it will all be a little easier.
I can't say it as a fact since I don't play with others often but, I really doubt this book would do anything but help you when playing with other guitarists and instruments regardless of their knowledge and how they learned it.
I would recommend a yellow Gripmaster (to help warm up and increase hand strength) and a metronome to go along this book.

Editorial Review:

The Special Edition is the first two volumes of the Fretboard Logic guitar series combined with a special discount. Part One deals with the pattern organization of the fretboard which results from the guitar's unique tuning system. Part Two teaches the tone groups of music - Chords, Scales and Arpeggios - by building them in the context of this pattern organization, and thereby eliminating the usual guesswork and rote memorization associated with these areas of a guitarist's education. This alone can take years off the learning curve. Combined, the two parts form a solid foundation by which a guitarist can intelligently pursue the music styles of their own choosing, and play them on the guitar types which they prefer.

Amazing 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is better than a guitar teacher. It shows you the scales, but more importantly it illustrates how they fit together. If you're a guitar player wondering how some players can shred up and down the neck, its because they understand how scales work, exactly what this book teaches you. This book has made it possible for me to improvise solos. If you don't understand how the positions of scales fit together, and major and minor relativity, this book is for you. I have a scale and arpeggio book, the Yngwie Malmsteen DVD, Rock Discipline with (John Petrucci), and this book has been most beneficial to my playing.

Amazing!!! 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

When I started playing, I couldn't be any more confused. But I've since learned so much from this book. Everything's so clearly outlined and explained and not to mention that it's travel case sized. This book is almost too convenient!!

Editorial Review:

Everything you ever wanted to know about scales, but were afraid to ask! This book fills you in on major and minor scales; the modes; the blues scale; harmonic minor, melodic minor, chromatic, whole tone and diminished scales; other exotic and ethnic scales; and more. Includes easy-to-read fretboard diagrams, and a bio of Troy Stetina.

Cash, The Autobiography 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I really liked the book and I am glad I bought it but it wasn't as in depth as I was hoping it would be. Some of the names he drops would have been easier to follow if he had used last names and the book assumes you have kept up with his history and his career but what it does do is makes me want to purchase "Man in Black" just that much more.

Johnny tells some stories 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

What really makes this better than most autobiographies is that Johnny Cash is a good story teller, and avoids the temptation to tell his life story strictly in a linear fashion from his upbringing to the present. Instead, he presents his life story as a set of stories during a tour, as if we are on the tour bus with him going to place to place. And it hits the right note since he's spent so much of his life on the road. And the moments he talks about his various homes have a certain intimacy, since we realize home for a person like Johnny Cash has probably been pretty fleeting. Subtly powerful stuff, just like his music.

Cash comes across as a pretty worldly figure, despite being heavily grounded by his country roots. We get pretty frank and open discussions about his failures and battles with addiction. As someone pretty non-religious, I found his discussions about Christianity and what it means to him and his family completely open and approachable, and it never comes across as preachy or patronizing. Yes, the endless talk about his various grandkids and non-stop effusive praise of the exhaustive list of people he's performed with started getting a little old, but I can forgive that. Very enjoyable read. 4 1/2 stars out of 5, so I'll round it up to 5.

Note: As someone who would listen to Cash read aloud the phone book underwater to the sounds of fingernails across a chalk board, you might say I'm a little biased.

Editorial Review:

The man that has been called the "quintessential American troubador" reflects, at the age of 65, on his life and musical career in this autobiography.
