I really liked this book; however I wish there were more recipes for like soaks for pedicures & manicures & baths.

good basic formulas 4 out of 5 stars.

this book has some really great recipes but it has only four stars because it has some really hard to find ingredients. All in all it cover everything from soap making to eye gel and has some cute ideas for kids, like all natural play dough.

This book consists of fashion illustrations of many contemporary artists. There are no tutorials in the book but finished drawings. They are prepared in many different mediums and with use of computer programs as well. For me they are great source of inspiration. I recommend the book.

Editorial Review:

A remarkable teenager who went from public assistance to a million dollar net worth shares his story and offers 9 key principles to success.

Farrah Gray is no ordinary teenager. He wears a suit and tie; he has an office on Wall Street and another one in Los Angeles . . . and he sold his first business at the age of 14 for more than a million dollars. He invested that money in a partnership with Inner City Broadcasting, one of the most prominent African-American owned businesses in the country, and now is heading the relaunch of their signature magazine, InnerCity. According to People magazine, Farrah is the only African-American teenager to rise from public assistance to a business mogul without being in entertainment or having a family connection.

Reallionaire tells Farrah’s extraordinary and touching story. When he was just six, Farrah’s mother became seriously ill, prompting his decision to provide for this family, and he spent the first $50 he ever made taking them for a real sit-down dinner. At the age of eight, he founded his first business club. By fourteen, with a million dollars in his pocket, Farrah was well on his way to business success.

Each stage of Farrah’s progress is marked by one of the principles of success he learned along the way, creating not just an extraordinary story but also a step-by-step primer for others to create success in their own lives with honor; charity and compassion. In the tradition of great motivators and leaders, this is both an instructional book and a story to inspire others to live life to the fullest. And readers don’t have to be interested in business to enjoy it. In fact, Farrah is a role model for everyone—just think of him as a Les Brown for the 21st century.

pretty good 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

first, i wanted to reply to Elle, who said that she got orange hair from using the 'light blonde' dye reccomended to get 'caramel'. i also did the same thing, but with different results. though my hair didn't end up a perfect caramel, it did lighten it up nicely to a color that i've been getting lots of compliments on. i never would have used that store-bought color otherwise, as my hair is too dark to go 'light blonde'. but, since my tab was in the right section, i did. perhaps your hair was too dark or you left the color in for too long?

so, while it worked alright for me, i did find the book less than thrilling. again with the protecting your hairline, etc... very basic. i wanted insider tips, not the ABC's.

that being said, i liked all the different color options and will certainly experiment with other recipes in the book.

overall, it's a good thing to look at in the bookstore if you want new ideas, but i wouldn't exactly run out to buy it.

Editorial Review:

For more than twenty years, Lorri Goddard-Clark has colored the hair of people from all walks of life—everyone from teachers and homemakers to some of the most famous heads in Hollywood. Now, in this inspiring book, Lorri shares her secret recipes for salon-worthy coloring and highlighting techniques for the first time.

  • Dark Chocolate with Deep Caramel Ribbons
  • Toasted Cinnamon with Buttered Lights
  • Spiced Persimmon
  • Gingered Toffee
  • Amber Honey Dream with Lemon Blossom Ribbons

Editorial Review:

Every man has the capacity to grow facial hair, but the decision to do so has always come with layers of meaning. Facial hair has traditionally marked a passage into manhood, but its various manifestations have been determined by class, religious belief, historical precedent, and occupational status. Beards have at one time or another come to represent wisdom, goodness, sorcery, diabolism, psychological depth, and revolution; they have been purchased, elaborately trimmed, adorned, and dyed, and deracinated as a form of torture. To this day, the act of displaying facial hair is still regarded as a form of ultimate cool.

With wit and insight, One Thousand Beards explores the historical meaning of beards, moustaches, sideburns, and other forms of facial hair, from Freud’s psychoanalytic interpretation, to a wild trip through history, to a rogue’s gallery of famous bearded or moustached men, including Abraham Lincoln, Joseph Stalin, Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean, and Yosemite Sam.

Includes numerous B&W illustrations and photographs.

Editorial Review:

A few lucky women have been born with style -- think Diana Vreeland and Jacqueline Onassis -- but for most of us, style is something that comes with time and experience. Above all, style begins with a sense of who you are and your self-confidence. Style comes from opening yourself to the world around you -- to books and movies, art, music, travel, and especially to other people.

In this upbeat and engaging book, designer Kate Spade talks about the many people and experiences that have inspired her. For Kate, movies as varied as The Swimmer and The Red Balloon have influenced her vision of style, as have such places as Mexico (where she and her husband, Andy, vacation each year), Napa Valley, and her hometown of Kansas City.

In the pages of Style, you'll find a large section devoted to the colors Kate most loves and suggestions for combining them. Accessories, which are the backbone of her wardrobe, are given full treatment here, including shoes, handbags, hats, gloves, and jewelry; and a portfolio of Kate's personal favorites from her own closet is showcased. Style in the office, evening style, even ideas for style when you travel and when you play are all featured here. The last section of Style focuses on maintaining your wardrobe, including tips on organizing your closet, caring for vintage clothes, and keeping your jewelry in good condition.

Style, with 230 watercolor illustrations, is a wonderfully personal and friendly book intended for readers of all ages and style temperaments. If there's one rule Kate espouses, it's that true style comes when you follow your own rules. Moreover, as the writers William Strunk, Jr., and E. B. White once wrote, "To achieve style, begin by affecting none."

Could Have Been Much Better 3 out of 5 stars.
70 of 71 people found this review helpful.

As a fan of Trinny and Susannah, I have always appreciated their guidance on how to dress for your specific body type. I found this book to be covering the same information, except not as well presented as in previous books.

Once you discover your body type, you can really only use 15 or so pages out of entire 288 page book. You are offered only 3 looks as ideal for your shape, Casual, Smart, and Party. I would have appreciated more, especially considering some of the outfits were not seasonally appropriate. And as I flipped through the information on other body types, it was noticable that things such as swimsuits and accessories where discussed with some body types and not others. This should have been addressed with every body type.

Also, because this book is shipped from the UK, the shopping section becomes useless since they recommend shops within the United Kingdom only, unless you anticipate traveling overseas soon. The shopping guide in "T & S The Survival Guide" is far superior. Perhaps an updated US version will be offered later. Wait and buy it then.

wow this was terrible 1 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

my mother bought this for me as a gift, and she completely wasted her money. this book is AWFUL. the pictures are bad, the posing is terrible-- if you slouch and frown, you''ll look bad no matter what you're wearing! They should have used models who actually HAD saddlebags or flat chests or flabby tummies... maybe they just wanted to see their faces in print.

I cannot even express how awful this book was. I agree with one other reviewer-- I get MUCH more out of a copy of Vogue than I ever would from this book. And at a fraction of the cost...

Editorial Review:

'Trinny and Susannah can be breathtakingly irritating but also happen to have extremely good taste.' - Elizabeth Hurley 'I'd rather eat my own hair than shop with these two again.' - Jeremy Clarkson Susannah and Trinny's straight-talking fashion advice has made them Britain's best-known style duo. Now in their third BBC television series, they continue to make-over more unsuspecting style casualties. Offering advice on how to develop personal style, whilst making the most of your body shape, hiding your defects and flaunting those assets! Susannah and Trinny are not about fashion; they are about personal style - dressing for your body shape and personality - and this book shows you how.
