I just received this great little box of sock patterns and I already have planned a few projects using some of my special single and multi colored hand-dyed stash that I've been hoarding while waiting to find patterns worthy of using it on. There are so many great patterns in this "box" with lots of really interesting textures. I love how each pattern is on a separate folded laminated card which is great for those of us that keep sock projects stashed in our purses for on-the-go knitting.

Editorial Review:

A welcome addition to Alternative Medicine reference collections 5 out of 5 stars.
23 of 24 people found this review helpful.

Drawing upon her more than thirty years of experience and expertise, "Ancient Secrets Of Facial Rejuvenation: A Holistic, Nonsurgical Approach to Youth & Well-Being" by Victoria J. Mogilner (a certified acupuncturist, Chinese medicine practitioner, aesthetician, and tai chi instructor) presents a holistic alternative to caring for the skin without the use of chemical and surgical procedures. Advocating the use of facial acupuncture to counteract the signs of aging and which takes only a few minutes each day in the form of an 'Acupuncture Facelift' process that involves lightly pressing certain points on the face, "Ancient Secrets Of Facial Rejuvenation" also features strategies for attaining outer beauty and inner beauty through health nutrition, essential oils and aromatherapy, tai chi, qigong, and self-massage. A welcome addition to Alternative Medicine reference collections, "Ancient Secrets Of Facial Rejuvenation" is especially recommended reading for anyone concerned with rejuvenating their facial skin without resorting to plastic surgery.

Editorial Review:

This natural skin care program is designed around the principle that the face reveals what the body feels. It incorporates whole body healing to prevent and counteract signs of aging without surgery or harsh chemicals — and at no cost. Derived from massage, aromatherapy, acupressure, and traditional Chinese healing arts, these gentle techniques produce a more youthful face and lead to a healthier lifestyle. The book describes the layers of the skin and its function as one of the body’s major organs, and shows how to use touch and massage on the facial pressure points to improve the appearance of the skin and the health of the other organs. The simple techniques take just minutes to do and are easy to include in regular morning routines like putting on makeup or shaving. Breathing exercises, routines for specific problems, and affirmations to rid the body and mind of toxins round out the book.

Good Basic Text on Perfume 5 out of 5 stars.
5 of 6 people found this review helpful.

Good exposition of history of perfume, basic types, and so on. Good instructions on how to start making your own.

Very Helpful 4 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I pretty much knew nothing about perfumes before I read this book. I know quite a bit about aromatherapy, but not perfumes. For me, this book was easy to read/follow and I liked the history that it included. The recipes in the book were pretty basic and were fun and easy to try out. A "must read" for anyone wanting to start learning about perfumes.

Good Book 5 out of 5 stars.

Great Book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book arrived on time and was exactly as described. It's been fun playing around with making my own fragrances and not having to pay top dollar to smell good (smile). Will purchase from this company again!

Watch the video first 4 out of 5 stars.
17 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I found some useful information in this book. However, most of the tips are display in a fairly well done video at the author's website. Just do a google search on "The Art of Shaving" and view the "Perfect Shave" video. You will see all of the tips acted out. Like shave after a shower, shave with the grain, use a preshave oil, how to dry afterwards, etc.

The book itself is not bad, and a very quick read. The book is not a direct advertisement for the author's products. He actually rarely mentions them in the text. The book is useful no matter who you buy your supplies from.

Editorial Review:

The average man will shave approximately 20,000 times over the course of his life, spending the equivalent of 139 full days doing it. He will shave off 27 feet of hair, from a total of 30,000 whiskers on his face. And he will probably be doing something wrong. So he’ll suffer nicks and cuts, ingrown hairs, and rashes; his five-o’clock shadow will arrive before lunch, his neck will be irritated and red, and he’ll get razor burn. Instead of reaping the benefits of a daily grooming regimen, he’ll only suffer. Needlessly.

The Art of Shaving will solve his problems (as well as the related problems of anybody whose cheek gets burned by his razor stubble). He’ll choose the correct brush and razor and blade; he’ll take more time lathering up properly and less time tending to bloody shirt collars. He’ll feel better and look better. And he’ll adjust his perception of this morning ritual, bringing art and passion to a daily routine.

Some really good info, impossible diet to follow 3 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This book provided me with one of the best piece of information about skin that is exfoliation does not makes you skin thinner rather makes it thicker. I am really grateful to Dr. Denese for making that clear because I always worried that if I use my micridermabrasion cream more my already thin skin will be thinner. But the extant of exfoliation this book suggested is not suitable for a sensitive skin person (I just have mildly sensitive skin). Infact I dont think even I can sustain use of 10% glycolic acid peels everyday (I used her facial pads and it did not suit me at all). Another thing that is kind of confusing about this book is that the way it is written it seems like no one can have a dry skin, dry skin is the result of under exfoliation and that seems like a wrong idea to me. She does prescribe her products more or less frequently but not so much to get on your nerve. One information she provided in the book was wrong, she suggested use of products with carsonine highly and said,
"as far I know my serum/cream is the only product in the market that contains carsonine" ( not exactly in these words I rephrased), but this is absolutely wrong almost all olay regenarist products contains carsonine. It seemed very unlikely to me that she did not notice it.

Her diet is impossible to follow, I believe either you will have to starve or have a chef if you want to follow that diet.

I will still suggest the book to someone because I did learn few things.

This is a good all around Beauty School book 4 out of 5 stars.
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

Most of the chapters are well written and understandable. I have found some discrepancies in the information, and feel that the book could have been edited a little better. The book explains sanitation but does not go into the correct method of sanitizing all items that one would use during a service. The material is quite dry, and could really use something to get the student excited about the occupation that they have chosen.

No Excuses For Milady 3 out of 5 stars.
4 of 6 people found this review helpful.

As this is the ninth edition of what is alledgedly the most widely used text for beginning estheticians, then the persistent use of mediocre-to-poor science is inexcusable. Doesn't the author consult *anyone* in the scientific/medical community before sending this thing off to the printers? It is *not*, for instance, an established fact that vitamin A protects human beings from cancer of any sort. There is certainly data that looks promising, but that's it. And since vitamin K is manufactured in the intestinal tract, why is paper wasted insisting that students, many of them fresh out of high school, should be memorizing the names of the food sources of this abundant nutrient? Many of these kids struggle with the science that *is* relevent to the profession they hope to enter. My husband is a doctor, I'm an RN, and neither of us has ever used the term "non-striated" muscle. It's "smooth" muscle, for crying out loud! And while I'm on the subject of muscles, absolutely none - not one - healthcare professional I'm acquainted with has ever learned anything about the "belly" of the muscle! No matter - 18 year-old kids have to learn what is not required of first-year medical students. Please. Yes, as a basic introductory text it has much to recommend it; all the more reason to get the science right. S.T., RN, Rochester, NY
