Not one of the better 1 out of 5 stars.
8 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Not one of the better books out there... I should have sent it back, but I did not, I will donate it to the beauty school when I leave and get a tax credit I guess. disappointing, did not learn anything that was not in the standard already, you are better off observing than trying to understand this mess.

Unclear instructions 1 out of 5 stars.
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

This book is unclear in two ways. #1 it dosn't have very good pictures and #2 it has unclear instructions. I have only checked it out at our local library, so I have not deeply looked into it. But It appeared not well orgonized and hard to understand. Altogether, at first appearence it would not be my choice.

Good info, Poor Illustrations 3 out of 5 stars.

The info is good. Im a cosmetology student, so I can actually understand the content. The pictures are not very good. I would like to see color pictures, w/maybe a Manikin demonstration on haircuts, something other than the simple drawings provided.

Ideal bizarre gift 4 out of 5 stars.
15 of 15 people found this review helpful.

Those people requiring a weird gift for a birthday, trailer park bridal party, etc, could do worse than giving this book a go. It's full of great pictures of fine heads, stories, and special features that give people a taste of the mullet lifestyle.

Personally I found it a bit short, however, and wouldn't buy it for *my own* collection - it's a read-once book. Buy it for a friend and read it before you wrap it, or better still get the local library to buy it instead (I did!).

a star in your own book 4 out of 5 stars.

The Mullet is the crowning accomplishment of white trash icons everywhere. They wear their coifs with feigned ignorance and blissful indifference to the profound impact they make.

Long live the fashion trendsetters and indomitable champions of bad taste. Your trucks...your bumper stickers...your hair...your charm!

Variety is truly the spice of life!

Editorial Review:

The mullet-cut is a style in which the hair is short at the front coupled with a long mane at the back. Popular in the 1980s, entering the zeitgeist and becoming the hairstyle to have, the mullet is now in decline. The authors examine all areas of the phenomenon, from mullets in pop to advertising.

Editorial Review:

An illustrated romp through one of the oddest and most fiercely competitive global competitions: the World Beard and Moustache Championships.

Since its humble beginnings in Germany in 1990, the World Beard and Moustache Championships has blossomed into an international event that has since been staged in Norway, Sweden, and, in 2003, the United States. The competition awards prizes in seventeen categories, such as Dali Moustache, Freestyle Goatee, Garibaldi, and German Imperial, and some of the best and most notable contestants from the last ten years are featured here. You will encounter Ted Sedman, president of London's Handlebar Club, who was in the Guinness Book of World Records for having Britain's longest moustache; Paul Miller and his impressive Fu Manchu; Gary Johnson and his award-winning Musketeer; and Bruce Roe and his manly Wild West-all brave, bold, and creative men united by a single goal: the pursuit of true individuality.

It's impossible not to be won over by this dedicated group of facial hair fantasists. Chock-full of photos that will tickle and fascinate, The World Beard and Moustache Championships is an irresistible tribute to these stylish and passionate creations.

Great book 5 out of 5 stars.
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

By far the best book on hair coloring that I ever came across. Covers theory and formulating in depth. It has a lot of practical examples, explains many problem situations and remedies.
The only possible drawback is that this book frequently has to refer to your color manufacturer's documentation - and it is not so easy to find good technical product documentation that is level with the high quality of this book.

Editorial Review:

With haircoloring the fastest growing service in the salon industry today, you owe it to yourself to learn what it takes to become an expert colorist. This new, full-color book will provide readers with a thorough understanding of haircoloring concepts emphasizing practical, universal methods for success. From color theory and principles to corrective procedures and promotional techniques, you will learn what it takes to ensure a strong and steady stream of clients and maximize your revenue potential. This book presents information in an accurate, easy to understand manner and provides real-life examples to insure usefulness and practicality.

Don't stop here.. 2 out of 5 stars.
25 of 25 people found this review helpful.

If you are looking for help working your way through a new loc journey, (what to use, how to do it etc.) this book is not for you. If your doing research on the history of loc'd hair, with lots of personal convictions - this book is for you. If you have made the decision to loc your hair, you probably already have your own convictions - you don't need to buy them from a stranger. . I was so disappointed that with this book, I actually tossed it in the trash - something I almost never do.

Interesting Book 4 out of 5 stars.
13 of 15 people found this review helpful.

In this book, the author discusses the origins of locks, "dreadlocks vs locks", and the myths associated with locked hair. Excellent encouragement for people who have locks or anyone who is just thinking about it. This book encourages acceptance of African "coiled" hair, and shows that beauty does not only have to be Eurocentric. I agree with the author's statements that once African-Americans lock their hair, they "fall in love with it." To me, this means that a person with locked hair has accepted their natural hair and all of it's quirks and knows that beauty comes in all hair textures. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a "how-to" book.

This was a great book back in the day 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I bought this book years ago, after I had lost the majority of my hair to a relaxer (which had happened several times up to this point). I was fed up and knew that I couldn't continue to relax my hair and keep risking breakage, but had no idea what my options were. One day I was browsing my local bookstore and happened upon this book. It saved my hair and my sanity. Finally someone was talking to me, telling me that I didn't have to keeping doing insane things to myself in the name of beauty.

Are there better natural haircare books out there? Of course. For the negative viewers, you fail to realize that back when this book was written, there weren't many books on the market related to natural hair care. Folks weren't as receptive to letting go of the relaxer. It was good for what it offered back in the day. The author has since evolved in her own natural haircare.

Lonnice, you're alright with me gurl - you helped me love my real hair!

Editorial Review:

Good Hair is more than a guide to having good hair without relying on harsh treatments and chemicals; it is a funny, folksy, personal, and very wise reflection on the powerful role that hair can play in creating a positive self-image. 33 black-and-white photographs.

Much Ado About Mullets 5 out of 5 stars.
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This book is an excellent view to one of pop-cultures greatest mysteries: The Mullet. Chock-full of pictures of some of the most famous mullets throughout history, this is a hilarious book. Kevin Bacon, Mario Lopez, Bono, are just a few of the celebrity mullets displayed here.

Editorial Review:

It’s been called “Camaro Hair,” “The Kentucky Waterfall,” “Hockey Hair,” “The MacGyver,” and “The Joe Dirt,” but most people know it as the Mullet, and it may be the most talked about and controversial hairstyle of all time. In its glory days in the 1970s and 80s, it was worn with pride across America and the globe, from glam rocker David Bowie to TV matriarch Florence Henderson (who sported a Femullet—female mullet—on The Brady Bunch). And, of course, it remains the unofficial hairstyle of hockey players everywhere. This humorous pictorial celebration of the Mullet through the years will make those who love the style proud…and provide some ammunition to those who would like to see it disappear forever. It’s as funny, terrifying, and mystifying as the hairstyle itself.

* hair systems -- what they are and where to find the good ones

Exploring case histories, the latest scientific studies, and new treatments being developed, The Bald Truth proves that male pattern baldness can be combated -- and helps you make an educated decision about the best alternatives available today.

AMAZING 5 out of 5 stars.
12 of 12 people found this review helpful.

After seeing the customer review rates about this book, i thought it will be a waste of money. But after my hair came out after braiding my hair, i was desperate to learn how to get my hair back in shape. So I decided to purchase the book after reading a few pages at borders book store. i was very thankful that i didn't listen to all the negative rates online. Her book was very helpful. I never really paid attention to the scalp, and how much damage i was causing it by not keep it clean and always scratching it. I was glad that she did not only talk about how to take care of the hair but also the scalp, the hair and the mind. The mind was a very interesting parts of the book, it help me take all the negative stuff that i thought about my hair, like how it was never going to get better and it's all going to break off, about people criticisms. This book is amazing, please don't believe the negative ratings, if u want to safe your money and learn how to take care of your hair and scalp at home, how to wash it, apply conditioner, and manage the hair and scalp this is an amazing book. Although she didn't request any hair care product she did write how to know which ones are best. i will recommend KERACARE products. i love their hair care product. i wash with the 1st lather shampoo to remove the dirt from the hair and scalp (ph 4.5), then i shampoo a second time with the hydrating shampoo (ph 6.0), then after apply the humecto creme conditioner (ph 4.5), which makes the hair very soft and full of shine. If your hair needs a protein conditioner, i will recommend UBH CONDITIONER (by cathy howse). It really helps the hair thicken and help it stay strong. Also about the oil moisturizers try KERACARE ESSENTIAL OIL (a little bit goes a long way) Try it. it will work. my hair has change from thick, coarse, dry, brittle hair, into soft, thick, long, bouncy, shiny hair. I get complements every day at work and it's a good feeling to know that i have good, healthy hair. Thanks for reading. Hope some of my advice helped your hair.
