    Always looking for a book to justify my love of vinegar, I found this book fascinating. Despite the fact they may be promoting their own apple cider vinegar brand, it truly is the best one out there. Anyone reading this will rush out to buy their own bottle, I promise!

    * Lots of detail and clearly written

    * There seems to be an ACV solution to almost every ailment!

    * Very simple recipes that are easy to understand and put into practice

    * Really convincing.



    Although Paul C Bragg did live a healthy and long life, it's abit
    disheartening to know that he's no longer with us. It's nice that his
    daughter is carrying on his message to the world.

Since the 1987 publication of Diet for a New America, beef consumption in the United States has fallen a remarkable 19%. While many forces are contributing to this dramatic shift in our habits, Diet for a New America is considered to be one of the most important. Diet for a New America is a startling examination of the food we currently buy and eat in the United States, and the astounding moral, economic, and emotional price we pay for it.

    In Section I, John Robbins takes an extraordinary look at our dependence on animals for food and the inhumane conditions under which these animals are raised. It becomes clear that the price we pay for our eating habits is measured in the suffering of animals, a suffering so extreme and needless that it disrupts our very place in the web of life.

    This is exactly the book I've been looking for! Objective, to-the-point facts on nutrition, vitamins, eating habits, and other topics such as preservatives, toxins, etc. I've seen too many "fad" nutritional books that are biased toward either vegan/vegetarian, low carb, low fat, high fat-low carb, etc. This book seems to be objective enough to allow the readers to decide on their own what diet path to take. This book, a good diet, and exercise can stand on their own and I feel this book can last a long time as a good reference book. Personally, I prefer a well-rounded diet (including some red meat), chicken, fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts. I lean toward organic or natural foods. Should readers decide to focus on another particular diet, they can supplement this book with one that follows their philosophy. I highly recommend this book as a stand alone or as a starting point to other diets.

    As someone who is new to the world of macrobiotics, the Self-Healing Cookbook actually became the most useful to get me started. It gives the basics but gives confidence to just jump in and begin cooking. It's a great resource.

    This is my favorite macrobiotic/whole foods cookbook. This is what I love about it:
    -The easy-going no-guilt, listen to your body perspective
    -All the suggestions for making healthier foods with similar textures, tastes and appearances as the less healthy more conventional foods
    -The many charts, drawings, tables showing you how to diagnose what you need by the emotions you are feeling - ie do you need a cleansing meal or a calming one? Do you need to feel inspired or grounded? etc
    -There is a variety of recipes
    -Many recipes have suggestions for changing or adding things (which suits me just fine because I don't always follow recipes when I cook anyhow)

    Overall, the book makes me feel good. It tells you to slow down, savor the food, pay attention to how it makes your body feel, understand the connection between emotions and weakness in your organs and also covers how to get sufficient iron, calcium etc on a non-dairy diet.

    I highly recommend this book.
