Do you overeat because you don't feel satisfied or full? Volumetrics is based on "the science of satiety"--what researchers have learned about the food choices that make people feel full. The authors teach you how to eat low-calorie-dense, high-volume foods so that you feel like you've eaten plenty, even though you've eaten fewer calories. You'll lose weight without feeling hungry or deprived.

Here's an example of how volume affects eating. Raisins are dried grapes. But 100 calories of raisins fill only one-quarter cup, while 100 calories of fresh, whole grapes fill one and two-thirds cups. You'll feel satisfied after one and two-thirds cups of grapes, but if you're eating raisins, you're likely to keep filling your mouth. The point is not to stop eating raisins (or chocolate, cheese, or other high-calorie, low-volume foods), but to realize that you're likely to take in many more calories before your body tells you you're full. If you're trying to manage your weight, eating more low-density foods (lower-calorie foods that have a lot of volume) will make you feel full while you drop pounds.

Easy recipes, easy to understand how it works with the Glycemic Index concept, and good for diabetics and hypoglycemia as well. Love the cottage cheese and tomato breakfast, as well as the Saturday Eggs, and Dieter's Delight (egg whites packed full of veg, and only 28 calories!). The Chicken Francoise with Fine Herbs was amazing, and far simpler than I thought.

Some recipes aren't so 'standard', but that's what adds to the appeal...tons of "normal", and plenty of "special recipes" to keep it fun and interesting. Majority of ingredients are found in my local grocery store, and the few left over are easily removed/replaceable, or found at an ethnic market, whole foods market, or butcher shop not far away.

Well written, maybe needs to be organized slightly differently, but I don't have any suggestions in that regard aside from taking it to the basic ideas of Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack, Dessert, Beverage, etc...rather than some of the odd (true, but odd for your standard Jane Doe) categories it currently shows (keep all the recipes...just put in more "typical" category headings to aid in knowing what is meant for what kind of meal, etc).

    This isn't a typical diet book that's written to make things too easy and/or confuse you with un-verifiable 'facts'. It takes a little effort to read and to prepare to start the diet but I thought of it as a preparation to changing my life. I've lost about 60 pounds so far and, even better, am much healthier, have more energy and look much better (aside from the weight loss). There's no weird concoctions, shakes, or other kinds of gimmicks that can't be sustained, it's all good, natural, healthy food right from the grocery store. There are some awesome recipes but if you don't like to cook much (like me) there are plenty of throw-together things you can do and stick to the diet easily.
    I recommend this book and diet 100%!!

    If the old saying "butter plus salt equals flavor" is true, somebody neglected to tell the folks at Weight Watchers. Simply the Best is a testament that good food need not always be accompanied by dietary guilt and that flavor doesn't have to be sacrificed in the name of health. The book's more than 250 sensible low-fat recipes cover the culinary spectrum, from entrees such as Bella Braised Chicken to desserts such as Strawberry Crepes.

    While the book is designed to accompany the popular Weight Watchers diet program, it can be used by anyone interested in healthy, delicious, low-fat food. The prizewinning recipes are contributed by Weight Watchers members and staff from across the U.S., Canada, and England. For chefs new to low-fat cooking, Simply the Best is an excellent resource for learning flavorful combinations to substitute for traditional high-fat, high-caloric fare. Most inspiring is the sheer variety of recipes included in the book and the unique variations on old themes.     I thought this was a very good book, with quick, easy, practical lessons. I found it motivating and insightful. Not every lesson resonated with me and I found some of the examples to be irritating and irrelevant, but I'm only one part of her audience and I'm sure those lessons and examples spoke to someone else. As far as the lessons go, you can do as much or as little as you want with them. Some days, I wrote a lot. Some days I wrote just a few sentences. If I missed a day, I just picked it up the next day. If you can't commit to that, I'm not sure if you're ready to commit to long-term weight loss or maintenance. The most important lessons, I think, are around managing long term weight loss. It really is a rest of your life challenge!
