Excellet Carb Counter 5 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This is one of the best carb counters on the market. It is so easy to use, and lists every single food I have ever eaten, even the most popular restaurant foods. It is very well organized, making finding foods very quick. I just love the alphabetical listings instead of all those categories. I also found the foods to be listed in the serving size most commonly consumed. Plus there are additional serving size listings for items like flour and sugar that you would use in cooking/baking. I disagree with the bad reviews. For instance "potato" is right there, easy to find, in baked, boiled, etc. It lists the size of the potato in inches instead of saying 3 oz. Well how many of you have a scale with you to weigh your potato when you eat out? I would rather see the size, like 3 inch long by 2 inch round. Awesome book!

Excellent Calorie Counting Tool 5 out of 5 stars.
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

This book is an excellent tool to give you a general idea of the calories of food. I have found it to be quite comprehensive and am losing 2lbs per week now using this book.

Help for those that are dieting 5 out of 5 stars.

I have the original printing of this book which finally has worn out , so I replaced it. I have yet to find a more helpful book for any dieter. It is invaluable.

Good information if you only eat packaged food 2 out of 5 stars.

I was really disappointed with this book. I bought it on recommendation of my doctor. I really don't eat a ton of packaged food and things that I would expect to see listed here are not. It seems fairly complete if you eat out at fast food restaurants and use a lot of pre-packaged foods, which I do not. It also doesn't include any food that might be on a more sophisticated palette. I'm no food snob, but I do go out to dinner at nicer restaurants and I would have hoped some of those types of dishes would be listed on this book. Overall, I didn't find it very useful for my purposes.

Editorial Review:

A dictionary listing of more than 8,500 entries provides accurate, up-to-date calorie and carbohydrate counts for natural foods as well as brand-name products and includes extensive cross-referencing.

A must have book if you are health conscious and dine out 5 out of 5 stars.
18 of 18 people found this review helpful.

This is the most up to date Fast Food guide in publication today. It includes many hard to find restaurant listings, such as Red Lobster, as well as the more common fast food restaurants. This book includes more information than is provided by most of the restaurants own nutrition guides. We highly recommend this guide to anyone that eats fast food, even non-dieters.

Over-priced information 4 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is on low quality paper with a cover that wrinkled easily. The information is good with a lot of "without mayo" and other helpful variations.

Outdated 1 out of 5 stars.
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

This book is outdated and does not have the latest information on fast-food nutrition.

Editorial Review:

(Penguin Putnam) Consumer text contains listings for more than 65 fast-food chains. Gives the amount of protein, carbohydrates, sodium, fiber, fat, and cholesterol in each food item. Softcover.

Great . . .if you could read it! 3 out of 5 stars.
13 of 13 people found this review helpful.

I guess all the information you need is in there somewhere, but unless you're looking for lots of fast food restaurant fare, you're out of luck.

It is very difficult to read the food categories at the top of the page, because the print is so small and it is printed with a black background. The book is printed on the same type of paper that paperback novels are printed on, almost like a newsprint. I had great difficulty reading the type. Not exactly the author's fault, but still a downside for me.

I didn't find the book to be very useful for the types of food I eat, which do not include fast food restaurants. I was very dissapointed.

In summary, I guess all the information you need is there, it's just difficult finding it. I would not buy this book again.

One of the easiest diets to follow 5 out of 5 stars.
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

This is my favorite book when it comes to weight loss. I have used it twice with great success. After the birth of my first baby I needed to lose 15 lbs and after the birth of my second baby I needed to lose 25 lbs to be back to my pre pregnancy weight. I used the book both times and I use it to make my food choices pretty much every day.

The authors have taken the calorie content of each food and given it a GI Score from 0 to 10 (based on the sugar, protein and fat content, not just the effect it has on your blood sugar).
They have a detailed listing of various foods along with their GIS. For the first phase (2 weeks of quick weight loss) you are allowed to eat 17 points (for women). After the two weeks you move onto the second phase od slower weight loss and you are allowed to eat 20 points. Once you have reached your happy weight you can eat 20 points.
The first couple of weeks on this plan are a bit tough because you have to look up all the foods and add up the points, but after a while it becomes very easy as we tend to repeat a lot of the foods that we eat.
They do have some sample menus and recipes to make it easier for the fist few days.
On this plan you can eat anything you want as long as you stay with-in your point allotment. This book will eventually lead you to good nutrition. As you can guess vegetables and fruits have the lowest GIS and you would want to choose a lot of those in addition to some lean meat, legumes, small quantities of nuts and whole grains.
The authors have a very easy formula to follow VVPC (veggie, veggie, protein, carb)
Divide your plate in 4 and fill it with two parts of veggies, one part lean protein and one part carbs. Doesn't get easier than that.

By keeping my meals smple and easy I have had great success with this diet. I don't feel deprived of anything. Once I lost all the weight that I wanted to lose the book eased me back into eating larger portions or having a treat now and then without going on a binge and gaining all the weight back. By exercising and following this diet, my body looks much better toned now, than it did before I was ever pregnant even though I am at the same weight.

Note to the previuos reviewer. I have tried steamed ground beef. It's actually very tasty with some tomato sauce.

Editorial Review:

Balancing blood glucose by eating the right carbs is vital to losing weight, but the glycemic index's complicated scoring system makes it difficult to keep track of total carb intake. By simplifying the scoring system and creating an easy-to-follow plan, The Simple 0-to-10 GI Diet offers a no-hassle program to lose weight and maintain a healthy long-term diet.

Written by nutrition experts and focused on what you can eat, not what you can't, The Simple 0-to-10 GI Diet takes the work out of GI scoring so dieters can focus on creating a diet that is as tasty as it is healthy. The program is realistic, forgiving, and flexible, and the book includes a 50-page, easy-to-reference table that rates the GI value of common foods based on the authors' unique 0-to-10 scale. By managing their carb intake, rather than avoiding carbs altogether, readers can create healthy eating habits for life and keep the weight off for good.
