If you are looking for a book written specifically for losing weight, this is not the book for you.(There is one chapter on losing weight.) If you are looking for a book to help you determine the best diet for good health, this is the book for you.

Pros:
Very well organized
Very well researched
Very detailed
Interesting
Includes the Mediterranean lifestyle as important as the diet

Cons:
Although the author, a dietitian, says the Mediterranean Diet is the best for health, she chooses to change it by adding canola oil and decreasing the amount of eggs allowed.

One needs to do research on canola oil before using it as freely as olive oil. Canola oil is a modern phenomena, unlike olive oil that has been used successfully for centuries.

The author discusses a study that showed, along the Mediterranean coast of Spain, eggs were eaten at almost every meal, but heart attacks were a rarity. But, still, the author suggests eating no more than four eggs a week. Modern science has determnined that eggs do not affect cholesterol levels and if eggs high in omega-3 are chosen, they can be beneficial.

I think the book would have been improved if she had just reported the research that shows the Mediterranean Diet to be healthy instead of adding her own "knowledge" that contradicts this historically healthy diet.


There are a few recipes at the end that I have not tried yet, so can't review that portion of the book.

This book is not quite what I expected. The nutritional information I hoped to find is either not there or too hard to find. The back index doesn't show what I needed to find. I am sure the doctor who wrote this book did a very good job, but it was more clinical than I had hoped. I did receive it when it was promised, however.

I think this is an excellent book. The most important health book I've ever read so far. I haven't finished the book yet, I'm halfway through it, but already, half of the book I've read so far is the most informative stuff I've seen with answers to questions I wondered about. The book sheds light on some of my medical problems and is pretty comprehensive, it seems, about the ill effects of each of the substances addressed. I'm writing before I totally finish the book (i've gone ahead and looked at the suggestions for treatment) with the hopes that Dr. Blaylock reads these reviews. I would love for you, Dr. Blaylock to write a book with equal detail about alternative treatments. You've touched on some of it with your vitamin suggestions and some chelation recommendations. I wonder though, what types of vitamins would you recommend, synthetic versus food based? What about those fillers in the synth. vitamins, some of the fillers in these vitamins look strange, with weird names. A lot of them contain magnesium stearate and some other unpronounceable stuff, excipients which I'm not sure are good for us. The Organic Consumers Assn did a write up about the rise of cancer with the rise of synthetic vitamins. What about that type of stuff? Also, what about diet? Are some foods better than others? Are there foods that chelate I've heard cilantro, but how much can that chelate? Is MSG damage permanent? Is there a way to reverse this if a person has had years and years of MSG? Also, once you have Parkinsons or early Alzheimers, what can anyone do? Also, if the brain is elastic, can you recommend activities that can help us along with vitamin/food treatments. This is what I'd like to see next. I'm going to buy several more copies of the Health and Nutrition secrets as presents for Christmas to friends I care about. Thanks for writing about this stuff, it seems you are the only M.D. to write a serious book about these issues? I hope that other MD's read this and actually learn from it.

Improve Liver Function 5 out of 5 stars.

The author provides a number of very good approaches toward improving liver function. The work will be helpful for hepatitis B,C patients, as well as, a tonic for general health.

The book advises us to listen to our bodies and drink up to 12 glasses of water daily. The mainstay of the diet includes low fat protein, seeds, nuts and soy.

Our main objective in the daily diet is to reduce white sugar consumption, gluten,
allergy foods (i.e. lobster)and promote intestinal hygiene.

Certain supplements aid in liver function. i.e.
o taurine
o dandelion
o milk thistle
o livatone +

Good sources of daily nutrition are:
o avocado
o tuna
o melon
o leek soup
o lentil soup
o zucchini

This book is excellent for anyone attempting to craft a model diet and feel better naturally without the use of too many drugs and/or inorganic substances.
